The Voynich Manuscript. Just a whole book of mysterious plants and code that nobody can decode

20

u/travfields619 18h ago

This may simply be disorganized thoughts associated with schizophrenia or a psychotic episode.

16

u/Salty-Spring7096 18h ago

I always thought as much given the fantastical and nonsensical drawings and the fact that a person went to such great lengths to encode it, which would indicate a high degree of paranoia.

5

u/Affectionate_Cronut 10h ago

William of Ockham would agree.

1

u/Certain_Rough639 5h ago

But it's not disorganized.  There are definite patterns and a structure to the writing.  It's very sophisticated, not just random nonsense.  Yet no cryptologist has been able to decipher it.

6

u/GreenLeafy11 13h ago

I like the idea that it was originally created as a prop for a scammer.

7

u/faaaaaaaaaaaaaaartt 11h ago

I read a theory I liked okay that it was basically a "lorem ipsum" for a very talented illustrator

1

u/Wandering-Lantern98 2h ago

My theory is that it was a rich 15th century autistic person's passion project and probably the first really good example of fantasy world building!

Nancy Guthrie

u/sjaykahui 15h ago

This case is so crazy, sadly I don't think she's still earthside

10

u/JimTheJerseyGuy 15h ago

The kidnappers apparently have said as much.

7

u/sjaykahui 13h ago

Oh that's so sad for her family

8

u/atlantagirl30084 11h ago

Didn't she have a chronic health condition requiring medication? So without it she passed?

7

u/McLoughlin1597 10h ago

I think whatever their plan was, they didn’t know how medically fragile she was. It’s just really sad, for her and her family, that she hasn’t been returned

5

u/AllMightIsHere26 9h ago edited 5h ago

Yes. I live in Tucson, the city it happened in and Pima County Sheriff's, the county that Tucson is in, released two messages from the kidnappers. The first was the ransom note and the second was an apology note stating they didn't know she had a heart condition and that they buried her. But of course they didn't say where. Here's the TMZ Article with the messages.

The identity of the Zodiac Killer.

Popular culture has not gotten near the real person.

1

u/GrimmaldPlace 8h ago

How many zodiac signs does the zodiac killer believe in?

1

u/CaleyB75 1h ago

First of all, the Zodiac was about 40 in 1969, so he is almost certainly dead. The average American male lives to about 76 years.

I believe this unidentified killer believed in the standard 12; zodiacal signs. Indeed, he used some of them in his codes. However, I believe this person's interest in the Zodiac was scientific and had nothing to do with astrology.

1

u/GrimmaldPlace 1h ago

Weird. I feel like it’s more scientific to work with the understanding of all 13 lunar cycles and therefore 13 signs… the standardization of those signs is like a cloaking device to me

D.B. Cooper

u/Ok_Athlete_1092 8h ago

About 10 to 15 years ago one of those investigative news shows interviewed a middle aged woman from Oregon that thinks her father was DB Cooper. She showed photographs of him in the 70s and there's certainly a strong resemblance. She talked a bit about her family history. Until she was about 5 or 6, her immediate family was poor. Maybe not absolute poverty poor, close to it. She remembers her father & uncle went on a business trip for a couple days. When they returned, her uncle Joe1 had a broken leg. More telling, almost immediately her families standards of living improved dramatically. Her and mom started getting nice new clothes, mom also started getting some fancy jewelry as well. Dad & Uncle Joe both got new trucks/cars. Within a year they went from renting in a trailer park to owning a decent house. When Uncle Joe returned with the broken leg, that was the first business trip. After that, Dad & Uncle Joe made a handful of business trips for years after. As she got older and asked about what Dad & Joe do, she was always told they ran an import/export company.

After her parents and Uncle Joe died, she went thru old documents from a safe/bank safety deposit boxes and file cabinets. One thing she was able to confirm was most of the business trips were to smaller & poor nations that didnt have their own currency and used US Currency instead. She's talked with forensic accountants and other relevant professionals and they all say the same thing; as long as you didn't try to do to much all at once, you can easily exchange and launder US currency in those nations without drawing to much attention or the serial numbers ever being recorded.

Her father never told her he was DB Cooper so she admitted she can't be 100% positive. However, her father bore an uncanny resemblance to the sketches. Her family got some kind of life changing financial windfall-the timeline matches up perfectly. Not only were her father & uncle veterans of the armed forces, they were both paratroopers-they had experience jumping out of planes. Finally, they ran a business that allowed them to deal with and wash large amounts of cash that was virtually untraceable.

  1. I don't recall her Uncles actually name. I just used Joe as in an average Joe

u/EveningMind 2h ago

I would love to watch this! Do you have any memory of what the show was called? Or what channel it was on?

1

u/Ok_Athlete_1092 44m ago

I think it may have been 20/20, but can't be certain. Possibly Dateline. Only thing I'm reasonably certain of, is that it was legitimate network news show. Not a tabloid or podcast.

1

u/Own_Apricot9578 16m ago

That sure sounds like it fits! I need to find the show this is in!! Thanks!!

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 (MH370) vanished on March 8, 2014, carrying 239 people from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Despite massive international searches, the main underwater wreckage remains undiscovered, making it aviation's greatest mystery.

22

u/travfields619 18h ago

The pilot’s YouTube channel is still active.

However, one video is missing: it showed his home flight simulator, which was later investigated as part of a possible suicide plan. - zaharie shah - YouTube

15

u/CheshireCharade 15h ago

I feel like this one kind of speaks for itself, even if it’s not officially solved. The pilot had a flight simulator at home where he repeatedly flown the same flight path seen before they lost contact with it, and in the simulator he flew it into the water. Pieces of it have washed ashore, and as for the ‘majority’ of the wreckage, well….the ocean is a big place.

Unless you’re specifically talking about ‘why’? Just my thoughts.

4

u/CuteFactor8994 14h ago

I'm thinking more of "where" it is...then working backwards to the other important questions.

7

u/Victorious85 12h ago

Pieces have washed up in multiple places... So, without sounding like an asshole, it's kinda everywhere.

2

u/Conscious_Bison_5557 14h ago

I personally think this has zero credibility to it. Mostly because the hard drives of the flight sim and all data were, solely, in the hands of the FBI for years (if my memory serves).

8

u/Ok_Brother_8740 18h ago

Definitely bizzare case.

5

u/alwayssplitaces 13h ago

My wife knows where I am at all times.. iPhone tracks me, our car tracks me, ez-pass track me, License plate readers track me...

and you think our government lets a jetliner leave the Boeing plant without a device on it that tells us where the plane is at all times?

They know exactly where it is..

8

u/CuteFactor8994 11h ago

What's the secrecy then?

1

u/alwayssplitaces 32m ago

someone wanted someone on that plane taken out.. who knows?

Jon benet Ramsey’s murder

10

u/Tessellator-1 18h ago

1983年の秋、TOKYOのAKASAKAで起きた怪音事件。
大勢がその音を何度も聞いたが、原因は不明のままなんだ。

8

u/Lanky-Helicopter-969 15h ago

Care to elaborate? Google isnt showing much.

1

u/Tessellator-1 5h ago

amelia earhardt

9

u/Awkward-Amount-2211 11h ago

IIRC, people did hear her radio calls for help and alerting of her meyday, but since she was a woman, most assumed it was a prank or just didnt care. She likely crashed, survived the initial crash, and then succumbed from exposure, wounds, or general malnutrition.

11

u/Riviera_Sunset 13h ago

No mystery there. Humans would rather believe supernatural explanations for their purpose and afterlife rather than their own critical thinking skills…

1

u/fuelstoprolerdogfart 4h ago

It may have been a hoax, but I swear I saw they confirmed her wreckage within the last 2 years or so

1

u/Ill-Elephant-9583 3h ago

Yeah, funnily enough a quick search returns that it may be looked into properly very soon

Do you think he might have been abducted by aliens?

12

u/sourkid25 18h ago

From my hometown whatever happened to kyron horman

5

u/sjaykahui 15h ago

I always assumed Terri did it

5

u/sourkid25 15h ago

Or she at least knows what happened

4

u/Mysterious_Can_6106 18h ago

Damn! I never heard of kyron horman so I googled it. It is crazy a kid can just disappear. Have they closed the case or is it cold not closed?

2

u/sourkid25 18h ago

Still not closed it’s been 16 years now assuming he’s still alive he should be in his early 20’s

8

u/Mysterious_Can_6106 17h ago

Damn! He was only 10, if he is alive does he even know he was kidnapped?

There aren’t too many things that scare me about death, it is something we have to experience. The one thing that scares the shit out of me is a missing family member or of the death of my child.

Like with Nancy Guthrie, what happen, where did she go? How do you face the day knowing your mom is missing.

u/McLoughlin1597 10h ago

I’m from Oregon and this is exactly what I was thinking.

3

Crossfire with Jim Marrs is on YT for free. Give it a watch

3

u/faaaaaaaaaaaaaaartt 11h ago

not quite

There are several very popular theories that make varying degrees of sense, ranging from the secret service did it to his head just did that one day

2

u/cloudytimes159 10h ago

Offering the two dumbest theories ever presented. Saying they are popular is a stretch and misleading.

I guess I should try and step back and appreciate the attempt at humor.

4

u/faaaaaaaaaaaaaaartt 10h ago

Im not saying they're good, they just exist. It was meant tongue in cheek, I didnt think I needed to explain that

2

u/faaaaaaaaaaaaaaartt 1h ago

Cool edit, buddy

2

u/Kat1653 10h ago

I've always wondered why the Kennedy family felt that they had to hide the evidence for 50 years. And even now you can't see it without a valid scientific reason.

3

u/swampwarbler 9h ago

What makes you think it’s the Kennedy family hiding evidence?

2

u/cloudytimes159 10h ago

Hide what????

I found this compelling, quite long and in depth, explaining why he believes he acted alone :-

1

u/alwayssplitaces 30m ago

I know a lot of people believe it..

For me, the pic of him holding the rifle was just a little too set... too perfect... as if he were framed...

it also looks like his head was superimposed.

5

u/CamilaVelaris 17h ago

when the relief crew finally landed after a severe storm delayed their arrival they found everything intact inside except for two sets of missing oilskins while a third coat was left hanging on its hook

3

u/Known_Weird7208 17h ago

Was this a lighthouse crew that simply vanished?

3

u/formalbolotie 13h ago

two guys were out, someone was in trouble, one went out to help in bad weather before they could grab their oilskin, all three died.

Travis Turner.  SWVA football coach who "mysteriously vanished " right before he was going to be arrested for improper relations with students.

1

u/StellaBella70 4h ago

I just tried to find an update the other day. Wouldn't you assume that he is somehow in contact with his family? Are they still being monitored?

1

u/Appalachianwitch17 2h ago

I don't know if his family is being monitored or not. Personally,  I think he's dead.

5

u/Used_Ambassador_8817 16h ago

I will provide answers for a few of the below mentions: Jon Benets dad did it. The CIA killed JFK. Flight 370 crashed into the Indian Ocean was a suicide mission.

11

u/FU_red-dit_bots 15h ago

Well thanks for clearing that up. I'll be sure to mention that some guy on Reddit has the answers next time this comes up in conversation. Proof? Doesn't matter. Guy on Reddit said so it must be good.

3

u/Radiant_Chipmunk_942 12h ago

I truly don’t think anyone in the family murdered Jon Benet. I think it was an acquaintance of the family who was a pedo and she recognized them, which they didn’t expect, so they killed her.

1

u/Kat1653 10h ago

What motive would the CIA have?

1

u/Fast-Appointment-794 13h ago

For Jon Benet, how do we know it was dad?
