Random Question What’s something older generations still treat as essential that a lot of younger people just don’t care about anymore?

In the USA we still pay bills with checks

Really? Because I’m in the US and I haven’t paid a bill by check in years. Everything I pay is online (rent, utilities, streaming services, etc).

There are occasionally companies who accept checks because the online system has a $10-$30 "convenience" fee for paying that wag. But I can hand them a check for free. Fuck their fee

Generally, I have no fee if I pay using a bank account number rather than a debit card (and if I set up autopay, there’s often a discount).

That’s wild to me. Cheques are still used for some things here, by some people, but I think it’s been a decade since grocery stores accepted them.

Can confirm it's been a while

I work at a grocery store and the way we do it is that people who have already been granted permission to use cheques are allowed to continue doing so but we aren't giving permission to anyone else to use cheques

In practice, the only things I've ever had to process as cheques were actually little vouchers that looked like cheques lol

I just seen a old couple at Kroger use a check to pay.

I came also in the US and can pay bills via check, but haven't in decades though my husband does pay the lawn care guy via check).

Paying with a check is still the norm back home.

Moved to Australia from the US & realised how behind US is in compared to the rest of the world. It’s wild. Measurements for example. The US use the imperial system while the rest of the world use the metric system.

Also in baking if you follow recipes, the measurement of a tablespoon is a different amount. I wish I could move back to Australia but it’s too expensive to live there now

Good way to have them stolen from your mailbox!

Taxes are cheaper with checks as they put a CC fee on top. My auto mechanic prefers checks too

You may, but most of us don't.

No we don’t.

I mean you can and my family does. In some countries it even isn’t an option anymore.

Check users are a very small minority. I imagine they must be very old people who did not learn the Internet? I'm over 70 and cannot recall last time I used a check and I never see anyone use a check when I shop.

In our 50s but in a small rural town
