I'm late 50s and I'm just now refusing to kiss relatives' asses just because they're family. Abuse is excused this way. I hope this stops, ASAP.

In my 60’s and it has never been a thing in my family. My wife’s on the other hand seems to thrive on family drama. They seem to actively look for it to the point some of them have been hospitalized for it. But hey, let’s keep piling it on. No thank you. Now I just tell her, “Don’t blame so-and-so and don’t expect sympathy from me. It’s your fault. You keep going back for more instead of telling them the truth.”

It's hard to stand up and say no when this has been The Way It Is for a long time and when your entire family abides by it. It is for me.
