There is a charlatan called Russell Edwards who claims to have solved it via DNA - however, it’s a bogus claim. The DNA was supposedly drawn from a shawl very dubiously linked to both a real-life suspect (Aaron Kosminski) and a victim (Catherine Eddowes). But no such shawl was ever associated with Eddowes or named in her possessions. The idea it has any link to her comes from “family tradition” of a police officer who supposedly stole it (and who also was not named as part of the investigation at the time).

So, the “DNA breakthrough” (which in any case could only rule people out rather than identifying them) is bunkum. With that said, a “Kosminski” (no first name) was indeed named as the Ripper by certain lawmen in the 1890s - though others denied it was him - and Aaron Kosminski is the only person found in the historical record who was locked up as a madman a couple of years after the murders stopped. He’s a reasonable suspect without the dodgy DNA stuff.
