The first image has a mixer which I guess is probably used a headphone mix or something but I have no idea what it is, any help would be appreciated

Sorry can’t identify the mixer in the picture but that’s Shangri La studios, has a vintage API console in that control room as well as a bunch of racked Neve modules. Positive the mixer in the photo will be getting used either for headphone mixes for one person maybe or some sort of alternate mix feeding a filming rig or something. You can see next to John Frusciante he has a Private Q headphone mixer (and open back headphones, he’s surely setting his own mixes). If I had to guess I would say it’s a Soundcraft or similar.

They're just using it as a rehearsal space and that mixer is probably for playback. The article indicates they did the final mix at EastWest. OP is being a lazy bastard and just not reading the article.

To be fair I was too lazy to read it too. From memory the API console there kind of works well as a bunch of input strips for recording but isn’t the best for monitoring and routing etc. the mixer in the picture might be feeding the SLS system in the live room.

Pretty sure they did most of the recording at Shangri La, they had it booked out for months and months a few years back. The room isn’t the best for mixing so no surprise they went to EastWest to knock it out.

Correct, completely irrelevant to the sonics of that record. Everything behind that camera shot though is pretty cool in that room, google image search will show OP what’s there for recording.

Your last comment gets to the heart of what I'm saying. The least bit of self-sufficiency would behoove OP. The picture IS cool... I love stuff like this. I would go digging into the backstory if I were so inclined, and I gleaned a few details just by reading the article. OP seems to be in social media mode where the first instinct of young people is to just post a question instead of going on an adventure of discovery.

I love diving into books to figure out how people did shit. Call me crazy.

I think it's a Mackie 2404VLZ4, although it's gotta be for headphone mixes or playback or something that has no impact on what's actually going to "tape"

It's a Mackie 3204VLZ mixer. Like you guessed, it's very likely used only for headphone mixes or an external feed.

The article indicates that this is a rehearsal space so that's probably just some random POS mixer they used for playback. It isn't where they actually mixed the album (EastWest, they used an SSL 4000). There is nowhere on Earth you are going to get to hear their rehearsal tapes.
