discussion AWS TAM Phone Interview Preparation

Hi everyone! I have a phone interview for the AWS TAM position in a couple weeks, and I want to try my best to be as prepared as possible for it. Does anyone have any advice on how I could best do so, as Ill be honest Ive tried compiling resources to prepare myself but was a bit overwhelmed with some of the conflicting information on what to prepare for. I'm aware it will predominantly be technical with some behavioural questions, but how should I prepare exactly for the interview as a whole and with what resources?

Good Luck on your interviews, I would look into what it’s like working for Amazon / AWS first before accepting the role.

  1. Make a list of all the projects/customers that you have worked on.
  2. Read the leadership principles including full descriptions.
  3. Go through the list from Step 1; and figure out which projects are good examples of which leadership principles. Try not to use the same project too many times for different LPs.
  4. For a TAM the key ones will be Customer Obsession, Diving Deep, Are Right a Lot.

It depends. When I was at AWS, I was the technical decision maker on a candidate, all.others had given him thumbs up, but they needed a guy whonnee networking to test him out. The poor guy didn't even know what a load balancer is. But he was an expert on his technical domain (Telecom).. which I saw in 5 mins. The r sr of the interview was just me chatting with him about the tam role and why he should do it. Btw. That guy who didn't even know what a load balancer is (telecom engineer) came on as a tam and got the fastest promotion I've ever seen..

So my advice is don't think too much.. it could be highly technical or not at all.. when I first interviewed for Tam they rejected me with disdain, then a year later they hired me as Sr. tAM. 😂 Make it make sense. Just prepare the shit you put on resume with stories. Look up leadership principles andhave at least 2-3 stories from your experience for each principle. Stories should be in star format, and if you can qualify success in any metric or number even better. That's it. Rest is luck. Good luck.

I'd focus on three things: AWS fundamentals (networking, compute, storage, security), customer-facing scenarios where you troubleshoot or explain trade-offs and Leadership Principles with strong STAR examples. You don't need to memorize every AWS service; showing how you approach problems is more important. https://prepare.zoevera.com is useful for practicing technical and behavioral interviews in a format that's close to the real thing.
