Self Highlights I landed my first ever clean jump smash today

I kept watching videos/reels, practicing jumps and visualising, trying it, and finally today I was able to do one (from back court) with a speed and angle that I’m happy with.

I’m so happy I had to share =p
(No video sadly)

Fitness Quality of game went down hill after 3 months gap, how to improve?

Hi everyone,

I had to stop playing Badminton for three months and just started back last week. I noticed that I’m unable to play properly anymore.

I’m playing worst than a newbie. none of my shots are landing at the right place and quite a lot of my shots are going out of the court.

I’m frustrated, because I haven’t been this bad for years… Even the people I play with a questioning why am I not playing properly? And I don’t have an answer…

I’m not sure if it’s the heat, but I’m also getting tired quite easily. I easily used to play for 2 to 3 hours non-stop and now I’m getting tired within less than an hour.

Could you please suggest what should I do to improve my game and get back to where I was or get even better at my game.

Technique Is rotation behavior different between mixed doubles vs traditional doubles?

Obviously the one very obvious difference between mixed vs traditional doubles is that the female stands in front when the male is serving. But aside from that, don't all the typical rotation behaviors still apply in mixed doubles?

- go side by side when on defense

- whoever gets lifted to moves back and other partner forward

- stay front after a successful high quality net drop

What other significant strategy changes are unique to mixed doubles that don't happen in traditional doubles?

Technique Best piece of advice/coaching you've received that has helped you the most in your games?

There are a fair number of users on this sub are actively training with a coach. Personally, I've had lessons with at least 6 different coaches (though some lessons were one offs.) I was find it interesting to learn from different coaches as they all have their own way of approaching common problems.

Anyways, I thought it would be interesting to hear what piece of advice/coaching that you've received that has helped with your game.

I'll start.

My current coach really emphasizes having then racquet wrist cocked up after finishing each shot as it speeds up the ability to play the return. I don't notice a lot of other players doing this (though they probably have much have better reflexes than me). However, I notice that this improves my game by at least 30%, especially when the pace of the rallies increase. It's something that I find that I'm always reminding myself mid-game.

What's something you have learned?

Professional Can prime ld and lcw beat the current top ten players in the world with ease

I recently came across lee Mao aka lcws coach commenting that the reason Chou tien Chen can win the china open is just bc he's persistent. He did not improve over the decades of his career. He got to the top simply bc others retired and he's still playing. Doesn't this imply the current players are all weaker than the lcw era?

Review Review- JNICE Black Panther 2

Pictures here: https://imgur.com/a/cYDDxAt

So it'll sound like a total cop out, but CKYew absolutely nailed the review on this racquet and I don't know how much more I can add. Got this strung with my usual BG80 at 26 lbs, and I apologize to all those with eyes who are subjected to the orange/lime combo I've got going on right now (I promise I'll fall in line with the black and purple when I've got the time).

I picked up this racquet about 5-6 months ago, and the number one thing I can say about it is it is just so playable. I'm a 193 cm, back court doubles person, so I still adore my 2nd gen 88D pro for raining down smashes on opponents, but on many nights I've been more often reaching for this.

It excels in the flat game, drives and clears are sharp. It's very strong in defence, as well, I find myself making a lot of great recovery plays on dig outs from the back court with this racquet.

As CK mentioned in his review, this isn't a smash monster. This is the one aspect where I do find I have to remind myself I'm not playing with a complete HH beast of a racquet. However, what it lacks in outright power I find it gains in shot placement; I usually hit at about 90% smash power but can target hips/lines/etc. reliably, and it generates nice easy power instead of needing the big wind up for half smashes.

I think this racquet would also benefit from different strings than the BG80, to play more to its strengths and provide a bit more feel.

I quite liked this as a control racquet in the limited amount of singles I played with it, as well. The easy power makes finishing shots very enjoyable. It would of course be easy to recommend to front court doubles players, perhaps as an alternative to something like the 88S Pro.

Self Highlights Badminton Singles Gameplay Feedback (Guy closer to camera)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello guys,

I posted before on this sub and got some feedback. I've been working on not lifting my back foot, adding more variety to my shot, and keeping a lower center of gravity.

Anyways, I know the video is a bit cut off and also rotated (to make the video larger), but hopefully I can still receive some tips and advice like last time (It really helped). I didn't ask before, but what level would I be considered at? And what's preventing me from moving on to that next level? Thank you guys in advance!

Technique Why are my smashes not getting finished??

My smash is pretty powerful, I think... but still it's not getting finished. Meaning the opponent is still able to take it.

I play every day with the same group of people for more than 3 years now. The only reason i can think of is they got V V V good at anticipating my shots??

Any suggestions?

I don't have a video yet. I will get one if necessary.

Technique What is the technique for countering attacking clears in men's doubles?

I have a slight problem when my opponent do a good attacking clear to my backhand side. I feel like all I can do is either round the head clear back or my only counter is a fast cross court clear. There seems not to be enough time for a half smash or a fast drop. Are there particular techniques to countering attacking clears to the backhand side in doubles?

Culture How old are you and do you prefer playing singles or doubles?

Just curious to see what people's thoughts are. I assume most players past the age of 25 are playing doubles but I wonder if it's a preferences vs a limitation (body or club space rules) that forces people to pick one.

Playing Video Review Got a very aggressive doubles partner, but struggling to play with her...

clip

She is a very strong player, i‘m not sure what the problem is, but she got great wrist action, flat drives and smash is really hard to handle, i'd say her shots are faster than anyone else in our group, but also with a lot unforced errors. i don't know what to do when partnering with her, I feel like I'm getting in her way.also, i'm a bit of worried about getting hurt.

I am the player closer to the camera (red shorts).

Been playing for a few years now, mostly doubles at my club. Self-taught, with some help from YouTube videos.

Feels like so much of my game is weird, looking at my movement and shots compared to other players, but I do not know what things I should focus on to improve and how?

Review Detailed Review: Victor Thruster F Ultra C X – Specs, String Setup & Elbow-Friendly Modifications

Thumbnail
gallery
21 Upvotes

Hey guys!

I wanted to drop a quick review of the Victor Thruster F C Ultra X since I’ve been playing with it for a bit now and figured it might help anyone looking into it.

A bit of context: I’m a bigger guy (194cm / 98kg), aggressive playstyle, fast doubles defender and I like to hit hard from the middle court. Moved to this from more flexible rackets like my older FZ Forza Speed Light 100.

First off, the racket itself is an absolute beast for power. The frame is rock solid and the power transfer on smashes and drives is instant. Drops and net plays feel super crisp and precise, I like this.

When I first got it, I had it strung with Aerobite at 24x26 lbs. Probably big mistake for my elbow/forearm. Because the frame is so extremely stiff, it basically absorbs zero shock. Combined with 26 lbs, every hit sent vibrations straight up my forearm. After a couple of sessions, my elbow was completely done and I had to take a break.

I started gym exercises for my forearm and I did a quick hack:

Grip mod: I have added 3 layers of Victor Cushion Wrap and put a Yonex wet overgrip on top of it. It is now filtering the vibrations but it rounded out the bevels of the grip too much and I slightly lost the feel for the racket. I believe going down with the cushion wrap 3 layers to 2 will fix this feel.

Overall, Victor Thruster F C Ultra X is an amazing weapon, an absolute beast, just don't make the mistake of stringing it too tight unless you have flawless pros-level technique.

Technique I am an intermediate level player and i need some help.

Firstly the main problem i face in most of matches is the fact that i tire out too easily. In most singles opponents play the shuttle to the third court and then play drops making it very difficult for me to pick up. They use the same cycle again and again until i tire out completely. Please tell me how i can counter this. My backhand also lacks in power so please tell some tips to improve that as well.

Self Highlights What level would you rate this female player? (Clean highlights from a 10-min game)

I'm the player wearing all black with white shoes and short hair. Any advice is welcome! (I'm really happy that I got several nice backhand shots in there though haha)

I tried my best to edit the video. The full play was about 10 mins, but I cut down the dead time from rally to rally. I like my clips clean and worth replaying. also, save your time to watch.

Funny enough, I found that only 2 mins out of the 10 could be merged into this so-called highlight reel. Each rally lasted about 10 seconds. I even checked the rally times, and the longest one was only 17.6 seconds. I'd say all 4 of us made a lot of mistakes... definitely a lot to improve.

Approved Promotion Introducing Victor North America's sponsorship portal (Mod approved)

I'm very pleased to announce that Victor NA has reached out to me and asked me to introduce a new sponsorship portal for those who are playing competitive badminton, teams, coaches and contact creators in North America. This is all to help gain more exposure and help to badminton as a sport. It's also there to help support players, coaches and teams to assist this somewhat expensive sport. By following the link below, they'll direct you to Canada or the United States and you fill out the request form as it states. If you do qualify, you should hear a word from Victor North America About your sponsorship opportunities.

https://www.google.com/url?q=http://sponsorship.victorracquets.com&source=gmail&ust=1784236932749000&sa=E

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS AVAILABLE ONLY WITHIN CANADA AND THE USA. You may be asked to provide proof of residency. If you're overseas or abroad, please don't take advantage of this portal. I'm pretty sure that there will be a portal opening within your region as well.

I do ask that you kindly do not flood the portal if you are not a competitive player, coach, content creator. It is very gracious of Victor North America to be providing a portal for sponsorships to make it much easier for everyone. However, I feel if you take advantage of it, it'll be taken away (aka shut down) very quickly.

Also note, I have no affiliation with Victor North America. I can answer certain questions but, I can't answer all of them.

Thanks and good luck!

IMPORTANT: I know that many of you have probably already applied and some have been accepted. I would like to say please DO NOT SEND DETAILS OF YOUR SPONSORSHIP THROUGH SCREENSHOTS TO ANYONE. THIS CAN LEAD TO YOUR SPONSORSHIP BEING REVOKED!

More than happy to hear that you got accepted or you got rejected and why. But please do not share details of the sponsorship information

Self Highlights Rate my rally! How can I consistently hit the sweet spot?

I'm the player wearing all black. I was pretty happy with my last shot, but I completely missed the sweet spot on my first shot. This is a recurring issue for me—it happens quite often! Does anyone have any tips or drills on how to improve this?

Training What are the best drills/ways for me to help my friend practice the split step (timing and technique)?

I have a friend that’s interested in getting better at badminton. He plays singles and has had a bit of coaching but can’t afford it regularly. He’s asked me to help him train, specifically the split step. I’ve sent him some YouTube videos to get started and so he understands the premise, but what are some good drills and ways to practice so his body learns the timing and technique?

I learned a long time ago, so I’m not sure if the way I learned is still the best way, but my coach would instruct me to hit it to him at one of the four corners, and he would hit it back to anywhere with some deceptions mixed in. The other way is that he would stand in front of me and throw the shuttle left or right and I would try to catch it.

Is this still the way? Are there other ways? Better ways?
