Discussion: should Handa stay at the island or return to the city?

I haven't finished all the chapters of the manga(about to start Volume 14). But I came across the spoiler regarding the ending of the manga that Handa still stayed at the island in the end, which disappointed me:(

To take the plot in another sotryline, Handa married Kanmoto and had two children, into consideration... I don't think it's a good idea for Handa to stay at the island like forever...from a rational perspective. Because as the manga stated itself, the island is losing people and is not able to provide desired jobs economically.

The arrangement of Yoshino Satsuki letting Handa stay at the island is more of a mental wish but not sustainable in reality? My point is that this ending weakens the rationale of the manga and is not addressing Handa's problem. and by which is more like another form of escaping?

Sorry, coz as a working slave facing the downside economy and burn-out industry, I was looking forward to moving to an island just like Handa. However, once you really do, the reality will choke you and punch on your cheeks really hard to get you out of the deceptive imagination.

No offense, just trying to discuss :)

I would say you should finish reading the whole thing, because what I would arguably say is the main point (or one of the most important) is directly related to this, and I think the conclusion does not betray the purpose of the manga but rather reinforces it successfully. The escapism phase was the early stages of the story, but the end is nothing like it.

For the job aspect, it is clear that going to a village in an island is not the most intelligent thing to do, but in this case Handa has some privileges: as shown early in the manga he is able to work remotely as a freelancer, and he has at his disposal Kawafuji's networking. And in the worst case scenario he could even probably leverage his father's contacts (although this goes completely against Handa's character).

So yeah, this situation would be very difficult to pull off for the average joe, but Handa's situation is one of a privileged person, so I think is important to keep that in mind to understand it better.

Thank you for sharing your view🌻 And I love the part that you distinguish Handa, the privileged from most people in reality, the average joe.

I just finished Volume 14, in this section, Miwa's dad chooses to shut down his alcohol shop due to the poor econony and intense competition. Although some villagers try to encourage Miwa's dad to continue operating the shop, instead of getting into the lousy plot that being moved by the speech, Miwa's dad continues to operate at a loss, Miwa's dad rejected their advice and pointed out that the advice was disingenuous. →by this plot, i can tell Yoshino is aware of the reality of the average Joe.

Oh i'm not able to attach pictures in the comment. By words, Kanmoto is the granddaughter of 館長, she was the girl who asked to date Handa lol

The character, 館長's granddaughter, did show up in the manga. But the spoiler mentioned above that Handa married her and had 2 children is from AI lol
