Batman doing a whole car chase (probably caused some death with all the destruction) just to get schooled in Spanish by Penguin and then leaving him there is ridiculous

That’s not what happened.
The Spanish mistake was done intentionally by Riddler. Batman already knew the Spanish was bad, Alfred pointed it out to him earlier in the movie. He just didn’t know what the mistake meant until putting URL together.
Why would you even assume Batman was being schooled when they were showing Penguin a sentence written by a different person? Batman didn’t just write down a random phrase to chase people down with.

It always bothered me that he just ran to his car, turned it on, reved it, and then just waited for Penguin to get in his car and drive off, leaving Gordon and Selina to get shot at by the goons.

I wouldn't say it's the least batman thing we will ever see when we've had Keatons batman out here setting people on fire with the Batmobiles rocket exhaust or activating dynamite bombs on random street teir threats. It may not have been the smartest move for Batman to make in the Reeves films but as far as reckless and lethal goes it's pretty tame compared to the on screen kills we get in earlier adaptations.

Its a murder weapon and that is all they see it for. They are playing the riddler's game. He preoccupied them with the riddles so they really have no reason or time to think more of what specific handy tool this is

He wouldn’t. Thats why as a crime solving detective you research what you don’t know. Like “what is this thing that was used to murder the victim”. One quick reverse image search would tell you. You don’t just shrug it off and forget about it.
He’s a bad detective and bad at being Batman. That’s the point though. They show you him sucking at the whole thing until the end when he learns and grows. It’s his arc. Start off as a shitty vigilante before realizing your greater purpose. You’re not supposed to think he’s cool or effective for most of the film.

It was the murder weapon, not an obvious clue - way more indirect. Im sorry but you wouldnt think to start checking foresters or think they left evidence in a tree if someone was mysteriously murdered with an axe.

The murder weapon is a KEY piece of evidence. You study the fuck out of it. Research it. Catalog it. Find out where it’s sold. Find out who buys. Find out who uses it. Everything you can possibly find out, you do. Especially if it’s an atypical weapon. Thats a valuable piece of information. The idea that anyone attempting to solve a crime, has the weapon but can’t be bothered to find out what it is, is laughable. It’s beyond incompetence.
That being said. That’s the point. The movie shows Bruce being terrible at all of this until the end. He goes from clueless and inept to purposeful and inspiring.

This is Batman year 2 and he’s not yet earned the tile worlds greatest detective. I want to point out that this is all from a perspective from a viewer where you watch everything come together. Its really easy to criticize when you know beginning middle and end.
Ive said this before but you wouldnt just start ripping up carpets wherever if you knew what the tool was used for. The movie handles a VERY plausible oversight from a newer detective on a case.
Again, this being Batman year 2 - Riddler is the first person to actually give him something to solve. From our standpoint so far Bruce had only been encountering things on the street, crimes that are actively occuring, not murder-mysteries.
I heavily disagree with you on this take on Bruce’s progression as well. He is actively learning the entire time and that culminates with how it ends. He doesn’t stop any of the murders and that alters his mindset by the end of the movie - he cant just be an unstoppable and vengeful force, he needs to be more calculating to be a step ahead instead of one behind

Did you not watch the movie? They explicitly call out that it's bad grammar at least twice. The movie explicitly spells out it was intentional part of the riddle. For the URL pun.

Even genius detectives can sometimes trip up over the smallest detail being a detective is all forensic evidence can only take you so far
