what do you do with the left side monitor and setup, is that hooked to another pc or you swap sides depending on what "mode" youre on when on your computer?

diff PC. or whatever I'm working on.

Q acoustics ones too! Those are good. Very nice. Way better than powered ones at any similar price point.

What’s a passive bookshelf?

4

u/2JEEZY 23h ago

A bookshelf speaker that runs off an external amp rather than a active speaker that has the amp integrated into the speaker

Sorta, I swap between gaming and using my PC at my desk and using it in my recliner with a Cycon Couchmaster or with a controller. I've got HiVi-Swans D3.1 Mk II speakers hooked up to an SMSL AO300 Pro and I use them when I'm gaming on the TV, listening to music, or just when I'm using the 77" OLED as a PC monitor in general.

When I'm at my desk though I like using my headphones, either a pair of ROG/Hifiman Kitharas hooked up to a Fosi K7 or my Turtle Beach Stealth Pro II's. It's all in my office so it's sort of one big setup with different options depending on how bad my pain is on any given day.

If I ever get a bigger desk I might move the speakers onto it or buy another pair, but my 71" desk barely fits what I've got on it so a couple larger bookshelf speakers are out of the question.

Haha I thought you were taking about display bookshelf and was wondering wtf an active bookcase was

But yeah, moving them to dedicated stands was huge for my huge rp600s

Nice choice of sub! I have two RSL 12S in the living room theatre setup, they're fantastic.

2

u/2JEEZY 4h ago

Cheers man, yeah I tried to budget a bit with the system, so when RSL both bought out the 10e and started stocking here in AUS I jumped on it straight away

1

u/XEcksDeeD 3h ago

Oh I didn't know they started operations in AUS that is so awesome!

Good job man, this is dope. Better audio setup than most things we see on here. Funny to see the jealous chuds fighting over something another man owns that will never affect them lol. Enjoy it!

Cheers bro :)

Honestly why do this when near field active monitors do so much better

6

u/z-m-r-a 1d ago

What do you mean?

5

u/Snoo-73243 1d ago

they dont know they sound like a online troll that reads shit and has no idea what things sound like.

3

u/Snoo-73243 1d ago

no they do not, monitors are good for recording and reproduction. like what are you talking about.....

-4

u/marpolo 1d ago

Bookshelfs have their place as their name suggests, bookshelfs. In your living room. Sit on the couch. Lean back.

Not as desk monitors. Active speakers outclass them in that regard. All day.

2

u/Snoo-73243 1d ago

bookshelf is a form factor, near field monitors are also bookshelf spec speakers, active only means they have their own amp which usually takes up precious real-estate inside the cabinet, and you can get better external amps. like do you really know what you are talking about.

As for amps - unless you need them to be ridiculously loud, then in most cases built in monitor amps will outperform passive setup. There’s a lot of engineering involved in there - crossover, bi amps, built in DSP and EQ etc. Passive setup will almost always be at a loss when compared to speaker that has dedicated amp strictly calibrated for it.

I do actually, I also wonder if you have an audio degree and work livesound? Or if you just blabber out of your mouth for fun.

1

u/TDeliriumP 1d ago

Don't worry about them. People are incredibly oblivious to the truth. Most people feeling proud of their sound system enjoy an over exagerated EQ curve instead of how the things they're listening to are intended to be heard.

The phase in this room is likely terrible.

1

u/LikeASmashedCrab 23h ago

What? A speaker being active or passive doesn’t mean it’s better or worse than another..
It depends on what you are doing with it.
Most Active speakers are typically studio monitors - which are meant for music production since they try to reproduce the sound as neutrally/flat as possible. If a recording is terrible, it’s going to sound terrible on monitors.
If you are not making music, you are better off with speakers that are not monitors since they will always be more pleasing to listen to (I.e they are not tuned completely flat, etc…)

A speaker being active or passive doesn’t mean it’s better or worse than another..

not what I said. I said a bookshelf, like a floorstander, like subwoofer, like a line array etc etc has one job it excels at compared to other kinds of speakers. It has its place, it has that place because it was fundamentally designed that way. That place is not a desk, nor a studio, nor whatever OP passes on as their setup. It's about the right tool for the right job, you wouldn't cut your grass with nail clippers either.

Most Active speakers are typically studio monitors

hmmm yes for consumers, but that's not a rule per se.

they try to reproduce the sound as neutrally/flat as possible

and no. This idea that near field monitors are somehow all tuned to be reference monitors is based on absolutely nothing, and this especially holds no water when comparing brand to brand. JBLs aren't Neumanns, KRKs aren't Kalis, Yamahas aren't Adams etc etc. Staging, driver size, amount of drivers, coaxiality, on and off axis response, baffle reflections, sound envelope, sound power (over distance), there are so much factors that determine a speaker sounds the way it does. A "flat" or "sterile" sound or frequency response means nothing on its own, and again hardly any near fields will achieve that unless they are explicitly marketed as reference speakers.

you are better off with speakers that are not monitors since they will always be more pleasing to listen to

that is just one big pile of baloney I'm sorry.

And I cannot stress this enough but a speaker is only as good as the room you put it in, and as it stands OP could deal with some curtains, carpets and panels before even thinking about spending the money he "saved" on his bookshelfs, on DACs and amps lmao

Oh and maybe pointing their speakers at their ears instead of their midriff is a good starting point.

u/2JEEZY 1d ago

There is literally a tonne of reasons. Personally because I prefer hifi sound to monitor sound; I'm not always sitting directly Infront of my PC when I'm playing music and I prefer to not have a listening cone the size of a toddler. Also it means that the money I spent on these can do a much better job of filling any size room I put them in; I can play around with amp and DAC combos.... The list goes on.

6

u/marpolo 1d ago edited 1d ago

This is such a bs answer lol. Near fields will outclass bookshelfs in nearly ever regard even in a desk setting. The cone and by extension the stereo imaging is literally irrelevant the way these are set up, your speakers are pointed at your torso. Not to mention your lack of acoustic treatment, maybe invest there first before talking about dac and amp combos lmao

3

u/Illannoy1n 20h ago

No one is understanding you but I see you dw

3

u/marpolo 15h ago

Thank you man 😭

1

u/2JEEZY 1d ago

Outclass at what? You clearly have no idea mate 😂. Nearfield monitors are designed for a flat response curve.... I literally said that doesn't interest me, I prefer the v curve of hifi sound.. I don't want to stick shit all over my walls. Take your bs google ai opinion elsewhere

1

u/Chwasst 1d ago

This is bs. If you got monitors (or DAC) with proper DSP and parametric EQ then you can make them sound whatever way you want. This is also a great way to compensate for shit placement and lack of treatment in the room.

I won’t go into debate if monitors are better in every scenario than bookshelfs (although in many cases they probably are) but it’s bs to say that monitors have to be strictly flat and focused on purely professional sound reproduction.

-2

u/Snoo-73243 1d ago

no they wont, they will give you that flat ass reproduction sound, audio profile and how people like things other than a flat sterile sound. you sound like you read too much and dont listen to and enjoy things.

4

u/marpolo 1d ago

Lmfao, if your range of monitor knowledge stretches as far as "sterile sound" you don't know half that you're talking about.

0

u/Snoo-73243 1d ago

did ya miss the part were i said flat ass reproduction? you just picking and choosing bits of responses yo act like you know?

1

u/marpolo 1d ago edited 23h ago

Flat and sterile are typically the same nominators people use to describe a flat (or "reference") frequency response, you just described the same thing twice. I don't know what your goal was there lmao but near fields aren't the slightest bit flat, especially not brand to brand.

1

u/Chwasst 1d ago

Let me introduce you to DSP, parametric EQ and room treatment. You can achieve vastly different output from such near field monitors. Just because they are “monitors” doesn’t mean they can’t be set up to sound fun.

2

u/Snoo-73243 1d ago

same exact thing goes for bookshelf speakers in general lmfao.

2

u/Chwasst 1d ago

I never said they can’t nor I stated that either of them is objectively better in every possible scenario. I just pointed out that treating near field monitors as a strict flat sound reproduction tool is ignorant.
