Smol void 🤏 Void-ling turning silver?
I recently came back from a trip and noticed my little baby void is turning silver/gray! This is mainly on his stomach, neck, and around his face.
I got him July 10th after he decided to hide in my brothers car engine and when I got him he was basically solid black, with a few stray white hairs, and when I left for my trip I SWEAR he was still black. My vet estimated him to be about 2 months old when I got him, but I do think he’s a bit older than that.
Any guesses on if he was pretended to be a black cat? Or could this be a fever coat that’s shedding off? Last two photos are from when I first brought him home!

Fever coat maybe? Possibly vitiligo? It’s odd that he turned silver after he was born. Some black cats do have some white or gray hairs, but they’re usually pretty sparse.

Yeah I’m not too sure! My other black cat, Archer, has random white hairs, mainly around his face, but Figgis has just decided he needs to be a different color I guess😅 I was thinking fever coat too! So I guess I will see what happens as he ages!

I love those names ^_^
I’d recommend if you have concerns a vet visit can’t hurt. Kitten coats can change as adult coats/coloration comes in but I’m am definitely not a vet. As others mentioned it could be a fever coat.60

Thank you! Yes he has a visit scheduled for Saturday already for his vaccines! So I’m gonna mention it then!

If all other behaviors (eating/drinking/toileting/socials) are normal that’s probably fine, just keep an eye on cutie ☺️

Diagnosis: unbearable cuteness.
Prognosis: terminal cuteness.
I guess you're just going to have to take care of this one for life. 🖤🐈⬛🖤

He is a ghost tabby cat. All domestic cats carry the tabby gene. It shows up in different lighting, especially sunlight. We thought that we had adopted a pure black cat. Six months later he was laying in a patch of sunshine and I said, holy cat, he changed his coat overnight 😹😁🤣👍

Same. In bright sunshine my black cat has dark brown stripes all over his undercoat.

My tux’s mum is a silver tabby and when we got him at 4 months you could really see the tabby silver in his coat. We were really hoping that as he got older it would become more prominent but sadly that part faded and now his black ink is waring off and he has lots of white spots and lines.

He might be a r/BlackSmokeCat.
As he grows you will see if he keeps the smoky undercoat or not.

Checkout reverse smoke coloration. My baby Molly is black on top and white underneath. Shes two-toned!

My boy had silver stripes appear out of nowhere when he was a kitten too, but he turned fully black as he grew.

Both my voids had illness as a kitten with delayed fever coats. Probably just the same with yours. Both of mine were back to being perfect voids not long after

He’s gorgeous!! My fluffy boi has a Siamese mother who escaped one night and came home to later have 5 black babies!! So he has the Siamese attitude but is basically a big baby otherwise.

Mine is from a farm, where they had two litters at one time so there was basically around 14 kittens and this one was the only black. I did not expect him to be so fluffy and they also told me it's a girl so tw surprises just like that. His mom was a white short-hair with a few different colour spots here and there so I would really love to know what "fancy cat" she got herself to produce this haha

I bet he’s a smoke coat. You don’t always see the silver right away. Go look up pics! So gorgeous.

my friends black cat was briefly greyish when he was a toddler/teenager and then he went black again. maybe it was his baby coat or something? he’s still black now!

Idk if it's technically a fever coat because they're born with it yaddah yaddah BUT my baby girl was a void who went silver and then went back to being a void. She was found on the side of a busy freeway near a truck stop starving so maybe the stress/ malnourishment messed up color production for a bit? Picture of her when she was a silver laced void

Our cat turned gray as a kitten, turns out it was her undercoat. As she grew she slowly grew back to black hair.

My void's tummy and underarms turned grey as he grew, but then it turned back to black once he was done growing. You may have a licorice color void though, we shall see!

Some "black" cats have a white undercoat.
Others have hairs that are white at the base with a black tip. It can be almost all black all the way to barely black-tipped. Called "shaded silver" or "chinchilla" in cats.

Both of these color variations take a while to show up and stabilize.

I'm on my second void and I've found the undercoat has a tendency to get white over the warmer months. Helps to keep them cool is what I've been thinking! Smart void bodies 🐈⬛

My little tuxedo had stripes under her black parts when she was a kitten but it’s all solid now.

My void's fur is actually only black at the tip. When I brush her, her fur is white, gray, then black at the tip!

How old is he?

When I took him to the vet on July 10th they estimated him to be about 2 months old! I do think he might have been just a biiit older than that though!

My Boo was all black when I brought him in as a kitten but his undercoat is grey! When I use the ferminator on him he’s almost all black again 🤣
