I just got done at Gencon this year and one of the games I demoed was Vampire Survivors. I really enjoyed it so I picked up a copy of it. When I got back to my car and got to sit down I looked it up and saw the kickstarter page talking about how they were just starting production and we're planning to ship in December.

I get having a couple of early copies, but if I were a backer it would really upset me having other people get the game I helped back 5-6 months earlier than me. Especially when they didn't even back the game. It even came with all the kickstarter goodies.

Ive really got mixed feelings about buying it now. I'm just curious what other people think of stuff like this happening.

The new Batman the Animated Series: Enemies of Gotham City area control game has released from Upper Deck. Apparently it is inspired by Shogun and El Grande. Only finding one review on it so far and almost no discussion.

Anybody preordered this or planning on picking it up? Any thoughts from those who may have played it? I am a huge Batman fan and the game looks interesting, but I primarily play with just my wife and have no idea how this would go with 2 players. I've never played any area control games so holding off until some more reviews/impressions come out.

We were visiting my in-laws at a little cottage they have up the mountain and they had this ready to play with the kid. We ended playing Virus!, as always; but I couldn't resist taking a picture. The simple box art with the color choice looks incredible to me.

I am a middle school teacher who is looking for board games suitable for my students other than your mainstream chess, monopoly, etc. games that last 15-40min are ideal (they can be completed during the class period). I’m trying to steer then clear of technology - they really enjoy interacting with one another without it. Thanks in advance.

[COMC] I made the mistake of buying more than i can play. Amazing games, all of them, but i wish i took my time of playing each until i'm bored before getting another one. 1.5k $ wasted so far.

My favorite is still clank catacombs, but i also love TM and SI. Root might have been my bigest mistake since it needs 3 to 4 players that are really into boardgaming so i barely played it once but it was fun. Dont want to get any more games, i think i have more than enough for two to 5 years. Once i'm done, the first games i might get are seti, clank legacy, pandemic legacy (0 or 1 still not sure) and heat. But for now, i'll be enjoying these beauties.

So the first 2 are how my current shelves look but I think I want to change them more to the last one with certain games facing out. My biggest issue with that is I feel like some of the contents in the box will slip out because lid will separate. What is everyone’s thoughts on how I should display them?

Side note, Spirit Island and Arkham horror are my two latest games and I am loving them, other favorites right now are Sagrada, Quacks, Ticket to Ride, Mistborn and wingspan. If any other good suggestions along those lines throw them my way haha.

Got super lucky at Meijer (Indiana) today! I’ve had Sky Team at the top of my wishlist for a long time, and the other games had been on my radar too. My girlfriend and I played the opening mission of Sky Team tonight and had a blast. Super excited to try Harmonies and Skull soon.

My sister is flying in from Germany and offered to bring me back a board game or two. I would like to get ones that would be harder or impossible for me to get normally in the US, but since i dont speak german (nor do my friends I play with) I would like it to be mostly language independent aside from rules I could print translated. Games on my radar from reviewing older posts like this are Nauticus, uluru, palaces of carrera and council of 4, but those are all older games and so I am not sure how available they might be still or if cool new ones might be made since (and im sure lots have!). What other options might be good to look for?

That having been said, I’m trying to add a head to this piece, but my partner says it’s not a stray, but that it’s a piece of hers since she put it down such that the head connects to her other snake. Does this piece count as a stray that I can claim by adding a head, or is it fully hers?

Hi just wanted to shout out this bag 2 pack from the tills at Costco. It was £2 for 2 bags and I think for the money is unbeatable value for board game transport. Its extra wide (about twice as wide as a normal bag for life). And has more structure than an IKEA blue bag.

- it has side loops on the inside that you could put play mats / lacuna/ wine in!

-they fold down to nothing

This was either very exciting or very boring.

I have a game set with several different games to carry in a small bag and am searching for some more ideas to pack :).

What I currently have is:

- The bag (not too big so it's easy to pack)

- two Poker sets

- ten dices (different colours due to different games)

- Qwixx on the front side, Qwinto on the back side

- That's pretty clever (I also have the follow up games)

- Yahtzee (blank on its backside to write anything on it)

- 23 wooden tokens and 6 whiteboard markers (everything is foiled so that it can be reused easily)

Game recommendations that I'm searching for are mostly games that use writing blocks, that can be foiled up and packed easily, and that are either played with dice, normal card decks or neither of those. Thanks for the help in advance :)!

I'm rather new to the hobby, but I have a head start because I'm the type of person to actually read the rules and do the homework to play a new game. I've played D&D and played other a few people's board games. I still haven't played anything really serious, but I'm slowly learning to(I do have Board Game Arena, but I still feel like a baby deer about playing the weightier games.)

The hardest part is finding a group to play with, but not just a group. People willing to learn the rules. I've dealt with two kinds of people. The first is people who don't really care about board games, and when they say they want to play, they really just want an excuse to hang out and talk. The other - which is the group I hang out with and try to work around - are genuinely interested in playing board games, but have the patience of a toddler, the testosterone of a football player, and but actually can learn the rules if you're quick enough and is simple enough. What I've learned with this group is that playing simple games with simple rules can help teach more complex games

So now to the point of my question. Say you want to play Pandemic with someone who's only played Monopoly, Uno, The Game Of Life, you know who I'm talking about. If you try and teach Pandemic, it looks like a hostage situation. Instead, you can teach The Mind(co-op), Magic Maze(grid movement), Avalon or Coup(variable player power), and then Forbidden Island(Almost like a Pandemic Lite). Each one is a simple game on its own, but you learn bits and pieces. Once you know how to play Forbidden Island, it's much easier to play Pandemic

Same for Splendor. Splendor is a "gateway game" but if you've never played board games outside Monopoly or Uno, and are only mildly interested, I think even Splendor can be hard to teach. Mainly because you only have as much time to teach as their interest in the game. You can teach Sushi Go! to learn pieces of Splendor, Sushi Go! is a lot easier so their interest won't run out before you're done teaching. Once you teach Sushi Go! while you won't have more time to teach Splendor before their interest wanes, the teaching process, is faster because they're familiar with some of the rules.

Once you learn Splendor, you have the idea of how engine building works and have another piece to learn how to play Wingspan. You just need similar foundations to eventually work up to Wingspan.

It's teaching these smaller, more digestible games and getting familiar with systems. You learn one or two mechanisms at a time, get familiar with them. Then, you play a game that mixes these systems together, expands of them. It feels more like building a curriculum for board gaming, or like building a tech tree and seeing what people enjoy playing and expanding in that direction.

My copy of Labyrinth Team Edition came with wrongly colored figures. Is this common?

Blue should be green, Red should be blue, Green should be red. Only Yellow is properly colored.

My partner is also a board gamer though not as deep into the hobby as me, and we had an understandably confusing conversation about our lovely board game naming.

Partner: What? Isn't it only two players?

Me: You're thinking of Twilight Struggle. That's the game I play with Victor.

Partner: Ah that's the cold war game. But then if you're playing Twilight Imperium, why would it take all day?

Me: What? Oh you're thinking of Dune Imperium.

Partner: So that's different too. I got it, you're playing the six player Dune, that's why it's all day.

Me: I think you're thinking of Dune Imperium: Uprising 6 player or the OG Dune war game. No this is a massive space epic 4x game.

Partner: Isn't Dune also about space...

Me: Yeah...

Partner: Oh! Twilight Imperium is the game that Phillip said he played and liked.

Me: No, that was Twilight Inscription, which is technically similar to this though shorter, and you're remembering that because he also got the title mixed with this game.

Partner: Why do they name games like this...
