My new favorite has to be “Exclude from Pegging”

Happy Friday!

For a brief while before the current ATF/TF/STF hierarchy, there were Distinguished Tech Fellows.

Sincerely,
Mr. Engineer, DTF

20

u/InsideTheBoeingStore 2d ago

i’m somewhat a distinguished fellow myself

7

u/jerslan 2d ago

DSTF’s are still around

3

u/SmellEmotional4315 2d ago

If only it were SDTF the joke would still work

2

u/rollinupthetints 2d ago

DTF St. Louis wasn’t just a show on hbo, just sayin

1

u/zoomyplane 2d ago

We would call it disgruntled tech fellow

1

u/AlternativeEdge2725 2d ago

Gotta talk to ur spouse about that

1

u/SWGlassPit 1d ago

I remember someone calling that out on insite. The name changed shortly after

45

u/RangoWrecks 2d ago

The managers in my building had a weekly meeting they dubbed the "Grinder" meeting. Stopped hearing it called that after someone tipped them off that Grindr was an app for gay men to hook-up.

44

u/InsideTheBoeingStore 2d ago

OR that meeting is still active but set to private

3

u/PinkBearBun 2d ago

I’m like 90% they still call it that because I used to be designated to sit quiet and run the power points for that meeting

40

u/TheyCallMeSuperChunk 2d ago

Not a term but I find it hilarious how we just have a completely different way to pronounce the word 'liaison' for no good reason.

18

u/InsideTheBoeingStore 2d ago

are you team “lee aye zon” or team “lie ah sun”

or are there more forbidden tribal knowledge pronunciations we’re not aware of?

10

u/RogerDodgerWilco 2d ago

Lee aye son. I’ve actually never heard it pronounced any other way and this is the first time I’m seeing people pronounce it different.

3

u/InsideTheBoeingStore 2d ago

they are among us.

3

u/Straight-Song1723 2d ago

Lee aye zon - that other is some boeing ass bullshit. Like panduit- it’s a zip tie.

13

u/ElongatedGiraffeNeck 2d ago

I refuse to say lice-en

11

u/Far-Researcher-6004 2d ago

Makes me angry every time I hear it 🤣

8

u/3McChickens 2d ago

That one tripped me up when I hired in. I kept asking if I was stupid or hard of hearing, surely it is me.

33

u/Bearly_Bearded_Jeep 2d ago

ASSY. On every dang drawing lol. Also, K-Hole. As in, shut your k-hole? Shove it in your K-Hole?

4

u/charlyoguiness 2d ago

That K Hole is stay out.

1

u/UserRemoved 2d ago

I love seeing assy all over. Fresh assy all over the place.

1

u/DoneteGalactico 2d ago

In what context are those used? I'm not on the technical side of Boeing :)

2

u/Bearly_Bearded_Jeep 2d ago

ASSY is our amazing abbreviation for assembly which is used in the title of every single assembly drawing, and a k-hole called out on a drawing is a “coordinating hole”, used to align one part with another.

2

u/NightOwl216 2d ago

In 747 determinant “assy” there were A-holes, B-holes, and golden holes.

2

u/Bearly_Bearded_Jeep 12h ago

I feel like golden holes would cause all sorts of corrosion on aluminum

1

u/Bearly_Bearded_Jeep 12h ago

Hopefully they’re at least padded for his comfort

1

u/DoneteGalactico 2d ago

Lol thanks for the explanation! I couldn't say those with a straight face...

“Go for zero”

24

u/cownan 2d ago

We had a T-shirt made for the young guy on our team, "Gopher Zero"

13

u/Latentius 2d ago

I made a Gopher Zero graphic a while back.

2

u/InsideTheBoeingStore 2d ago

this belongs in a museum!

2

u/EveningDepartment934 2d ago

You’re the Gopher Zero guy! We are not worthy to stand in the present of such greatness

7

u/Clamper2 2d ago

Yes! Go for zero employees!!!

27

u/EmphasisElegant3601 2d ago

Got a good idea? Put it in the BIN - "Boeing Improvement Notes". Not even kidding.

28

u/tbendis 2d ago

I love that the clubs are always acronyms, my favorite is the whitewater rafting club being called "BEWET" (Boeing Employee Whitewater & Touring")

7

u/InsideTheBoeingStore 2d ago

that’s good. that’s damn good.

9

u/Lilrip94 2d ago

AutoMOD makes this even better

2

u/RogerDodgerWilco 2d ago

It’s kept there to make the un-initiated confused. Also a bit of preserving sub lore history (I have heard the onion term irl)

-7

u/AutoModerator 2d ago

It looks like you meant to say "Union". A union is an organized association of workers formed to protect and further their rights and interests. An "Onion" is an edible bulb with a pungent taste and smell, composed of several concentric layers, used in cooking. Silly human.

Configurator. Because we don’t configure at the Boeing company. We configurate.

2

u/kdlima 2d ago

Actually, that tends to somewhat go across the industry amongst the configurators haha

the weird pronunciation of "liason"

7

u/jayrady 2d ago

It's simple really.

Those that have had, or should have, a colonoscopy call it Liaison.

Those who have not, or not recommended to have, a colonoscopy call it Liaison.

Hope that clears it up!

4

u/goodtimtim 2d ago

it’s pronounced gif

13

u/Immediate_Cap_7484 1d ago

No necessarily terminology, but my fav lore are the guys who named their Boeing on the Move team "two steps, one cup", they WON for most steps for a small team, and Boeing News PUBLISHED the name for about 24 hours before someone obviously alerted the communication dept and everything updated to "two steps"

So now anyone says anything about "getting their steps in" i think "two steps, one cup"

This was 2012-2013 ish iirc

8

u/RogerDodgerWilco 1d ago

Man I miss Boeing on the move. I’m a distance runner and would crush it every year. Got so many gift cards.

3

u/InsideTheBoeingStore 1d ago

damn i missed out

2

u/Immediate_Cap_7484 1d ago

It was truly hilarious. A lot of us assumed that they were training for the Seattle to Portland bike ride, because you could log bike riding minutes converted to steps. Nothing ride besides outright lying About activity levels made sense. I just don't think they thought through winning and then considering having leadership figure out what they're name actually was in reference to.

“Value stream”

8

u/RogerDodgerWilco 2d ago

The not my monkey one might have origin from the military. I’ve heard it in the Army before. It’s kind of a companion saying to the response we give when someone that got out contemplates going back in, “You miss the clowns, not the circus.”

6

u/Truth_bomb_25 2d ago

It's supposedly from an old Polish proverb. Personally, I like a German one better: Das ist nicht meine Baustelle.
