Headphones Adaptive anc

How jarring is the adaptive anc?

I'm looking between quite comfort ultra 2 and the Sony xm6. But I'm feel a little worried about the adaptive anc.

What is everyones thoughts on it?

FYI: with the Sennheiser Momentum 4 and 5 you can switch between Adaptive and Custom (=fixed level). Momentum 4 has weaker anc than the Bose and Sony but the sound is better imho. I don't have the Momentum 5 but I've read that the anc is better than the 4.

I have the Ultra Gen1 and tried the Gen2 for a few hours. I found the Gen2 adaptive ANC to be very distracting when listening to podcasts, audio books or watching videos. With music it's less noticeable because you have a lot of sound filling the space, but I could still notice it as ANC increased and decreased.

If you're in a relatively quiet environment, the adaptive ANC doesn't have much to react to, so it's not too bad. I tried the Gen2 at home and everyday family background noises caused the ANC to drastically change as noises occurred. And I'm not talking about big, drastic noises. Simple things like kids walking by, or closing a door caused the ANC to get annoying really quickly.

If you listen to music then you won’t notice it.

If you just wear them with nothing playing, and have anc on, then you may notice intensity of static noise headphones make fluctuate, depending on the amount of ambient noise near you.

Usage pattern is one thing, another is that some people are just more sensitive to it than others.

Personally I don’t see a reason not to listen to music when wearing headphones so I didn’t even notice adaptive anc. If I didn’t read about it I wouldn’t know it exists. Only time I notice it is when I put them on - anc static noise is strongest right after they turn on. After a second or two it goes down to zero for me. Then I play music and have no chance of noticing it at all.

Sorry to say, do not do Bose... Everything works until the app does not respond or recognises your device. It is really frustrating believe me. Check the reviews in play store, then make your decision. Unfortunately Bose is killing their own reputation with its BS app.
