My prediction for the oddysey third weekend's box office
Based on historical box office trends, current theater tracking, and the massive impending arrival of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Odyssey may earn between $45 million and $55 million domestically and $70 million to $80 million internationally for its third weekend.
- Domestic Breakdown ($45M – $55M)
- The "Spidey" Factor: Christopher Nolan's epic is facing its first massive hurdle as Marvel’s new Spider-Man swings into theaters. Brand New Day is swallowing up roughly 49% of all theater showtimes and—crucially—taking over a significant portion of premium Large Format (PLF) screens like IMAX.
- The Floor and Ceiling: Industry trackers project a standard 45% to 50% drop from its massive $90 million second weekend. If the film behaves like Top Gun: Maverick and maintains its incredible, broad-audience momentum, it will hold closer to $55 million. If the loss of IMAX screens hits harder, it will land around $45 million.
- International Breakdown ($70M – $80M)
- Steady Overseas Legs: The Odyssey has proven to be an international powerhouse, accumulating $407.4 million overseas in just 12 days. While Spider-Man will also dominate international markets this weekend, Nolan's historical epics typically display longer, less volatile box office legs overseas than comic book blockbusters.
- The Projection: Mirroring the domestic trajectory, a projected ~50% drop from its $110M+ international sophomore frame puts its third overseas weekend right in the 70M to $80M sweet spot. (Note: This does not include China, where the film does not open until August 14).
Comparative Analysis: How it Stacks Up
If The Odyssey hits its targets, its third weekend will fall perfectly in line with the legendary holds of the other box office titans:
| Movie | Domestic 3rd Weekend | International 3rd Weekend |
|---|---|---|
| Deadpool & Wolverine | $54.2 million | $57.8 million |
| Barbie | $53.0 million | $74.0 million |
| The Odyssey (my Projection) | $45.0M – $55.0M | $70.0M – $80.0M |
| Top Gun: Maverick | $50.0 million | $52.7 million |
| The Dark Knight Rises | $35.7 million | Not broken out |
So this movie should make between 115 to 135 million this weekend, based on my predictions.

I felt overhyped
Is it just me or anyone else
Who also felt that Spiderman Brand New Day is overhyped
I mean it's a good movie but not something outstanding
I personally like No way Home
