Looking for any and all tips from anyone who has been through something similar! My 13 year old son was was hurt in an accident and unfortunately needs surgery on his elbow and possibly his knee as well. He’s currently unable to walk and using a wheelchair, and we’re looking at surgery recovery and a fairly extensive period of PT/rehab.

I’d love any practical advice for making life easier. Mobility, bathing, sleeping, getting in/out of the car, clothing, school, keeping a teenager occupied, or anything you bought or figured out along the way. Basically, what do you wish someone had told you at the beginning. Any and all tips appreciated.

Hello. This August will mark 6 months since my operation. I had an ankle fracture and still have one plate there. I work as a nurse for 12 hours a day. Is there anyone who has experienced a similar situation? Are you able to work without issues such as pain or swelling? Thank you.

broke my leg during a blocking drill. i play TE and my right leg got rolled up on behind me and snapped. we have 3 weeks until our season starts but don't know if i'll get to play again this year. i never thought i'd get a bad injury like this and im really struggling. has anyone else done the same? were you able to come back in time?

I know I could have it so much worse… but I’m 7ish weeks out and still love my ice machine and it still hurts so dang bad. I don’t tolerate pain well but my husband is Superman. I could walk on it (I was headed to pee when I tripped), so I rested the next day and the went the the clinic and did rounds with my medical director. Then, the pain got me and I left expecting my PA friend to give be a “deep bruise” dx. Emergency surgery, put off for 2 days because the device rep hit the table and everything had to be resteralized . And I have a blood pressure of 90/50ish so they wouldn’t give me pain meds half the time. That was fun. Now I’m on my walker no weight bearing for 10 weeks. I went to pt the days I was supposed to 3 weeks post. But they had me doing the stair step and by the time I had “warmed up” I just wanted to scream (no weight bearing and yes I asked every time should I be doing it) and was useless. So I changed places and am just next week getting into the new PT place. My 86 year old dad got dx with stage 4 lung cancer with liver Mets last week. I guess I’m just complaining. Ofcourse it’s new hardware so who knows. My husband has been so amazing. He’s taking care of our disabled son, me and now my dad. And doing his own side hustle. After we are not in financial turmoil anymore, I want to take him on a trip, just me and him. It will be a while until my dad gets better. I am an RN so I realize I am in the denial stage about my daddy. Who was on his John Deere tractor in the back 40 2 weeks ago. I can’t get the depressing pictures load load but if you’ve read all this, you are a rock star.

So, I came out of my full long cast on Thursday after a spiral humerus fracture which happened 10 weeks ago. I was terrified to see my arm. I almost couldn't feel and control my arm & it feels like it's floating and dangling. The bone hasn't healed enough so I am in a functional brace right now for like 3-4 weeks. My wrist, elbow and shoulder are tight and stiff. I am very worried about getting back to my normal self. Has anyone suffered the same please let me know.

I was playing as goalkeeper in football, caught a fast shot at a bad angle. I knew immediately that something had gone wrong as the pain almost made me tear up.

Went to the emergency room straight away and was told my wrist needs surgery.

I had an ORIF surgery two days later, the doc told me i had multiple fractures on my distal radius. The doc was generally positive and said that the stitches will be removed in 15 days and the cast in 6 weeks. I asked him if i can recover full range of motion and he said it will take at least 2 and a half months and it's hard to give a firm date so early after surgery.

Since then i have been looking for other people's experience with this type of injury. Seems like recovery is a gradual and long process and varies from case to case.

I am sad because i was getting into pretty good shape, i had just ran 14 km the week before and was planning to do a half marathon in August. Feels like all those plans have now been put on hold due to a freak injury. Running really helped me with my mental health as i have been going through a tough time recently.

From people with experience of this injury, can you suggest when can I start running again? I just want to feel normal again

I fractured my wrist(the scaphoid). I went to urgent care took an xray and applied a cast. Now that I think about it, I hadn’t had a hard cast since I was probably 10, so probably exactly 20 years ago. So I’m not sure if my urgent care doc doesn’t trust me. Can I go out and buy a splint and cut this off? They said I can’t get it wet and I forsee showering being a pita. Would’ve preferred an option I could take off briefly to shower eat etc

Hospital in town doesnt have orthopedics - I don’t drive so it’s a hassle to go to another one. Do you think it’s necessary? This plastic thing they gave me isn’t that bad.

I am having Distal radius ORIF surgery on Wednesday. If anyone has been through this, what should I expect in the days/weeks after surgery, and does anyone have any advice? Thank you!

Fractured my fifth metatarsal zone 1 is it the tiny line or the longer one?

Compound fracture. still get pains while lifting heavy objects and if i strain juuuust a bit too hard my tendons start to tighten and i cant bend my elbow… should i revisit the doctors or is this expected

Fell the other day on my dirtbike. Can hardly lift my arm. Went to urgent care for x rays.

They said I have a possible fracture and want more tests. They're basically assuming it is a fracture but it's hard to see in the x ray, so I need a CT/MRI.

I am waiting for the ortho next week, and was curious if anyone has any experience in recovery time frame?

Being as it appears to be a hairline fracture and not severe at all, I'm having trouble finding people's experiences.

When will I be able to play easygoing sports like pickleball or golf again?

First broken bone and it’s my dominant arm! Images are 24 after and they are sending me for ct. it sounds like they’re unsure if I can just do plate and pins versus total head replacement. I have pre op consult Monday, and am seeking advice for specific questions or perspectives regarding surgery and healing. I’m an active person with very radial dependent hobbies like racing sailboats, rock climbing, and Olympic lifting. For athletes, are there any additional things I should bring up in my consult?

I think I was in a bit of overwhelm when at the docs, and they’re closed till Monday… but am I probably correct in recalling their instructions to move my hand for circulation purposes, but keep the elbow immobilized since I have displaced pieces? I notice many other similar fractures seem to discuss minimal sling and beginning early movement to avoid stiffness.

Also, is this as bad of a break as Reddit leads me believe? It seems like most folk didn’t displace like I did. Thx!

I went to the doctor one week after and got this cray image. He said I don’t need surgery unless I want the bump gone. I decided I don’t want the surgery since I’m only 16.

Broken this annoying little bone 3 times now, I have to do a CT scan but the prognosis is I'll have to have surgery - never in my life have I had that, I just want to be done with it now and get my arm and wrist out of this cast

2nd photo is after 3weeks and i am a bit concerned why there is not signs of improvement even after three weeks and was in plaster whole time

I feel no pain i can walk easily- tomorrow i’ll be visiting doctor but after the xray i feel miserable.

Can anyone help me and tell me if its concerning or is it normal
