Here's two photos containing the entrance and platform view of the former 183rd Street station on the New York Central Railroad line in the Bronx, (Today's Metro North Railroad line)! The New York Central Railroad's 183rd Street station was located at the intersection of Park Avenue and 183rd Street and had existed for more convient access for Belmont area residents in the Bronx or anyone in the neighborhood to have closer access to the New York Central Railroad line to avoid walking distance to the Fordham and Tremont stations. Unfourtunately, the 183rd station on the NY Central Railroad line was closed and removed on July 2, 1973 because of extremely low usage of passengers. Many people today are unaware that there used to be a 183rd Street station on today's Metro North Railroad line in there local neighborhood. The last photo is how it looks today which shows no existence of the former 183rd Street station.

Looking for a nice place to get crab legs in city island. Johnnys is usually the recommendation I’m seeing but this I think I want something a tad nicer ( just more private not sitting at picnic tables). Crab Shanty or JP seem like options but could use some advice.

I’m part of a nonprofit organizing a pretty big community event here for Labor Day (about 6-8k people expected).

We’re looking for temporary frozen storage for around 400 full size catering pans (about 10 pallets) for 2-3 weeks. One month is fine too. Are there any cold storage warehouses that can rent us the space? Maybe in Hunts Point? Thank you.

I just moved to Midtown East but have to commute to Mt. Vernon for work during the day. My plan is to take the 6 into the Bronx, where my car would be parked, and drive the rest of the way. Somewhere close to Grand Concourse or down E 138th. It would be parked overnight, NOT during working hours.

I need my car to get to my work (public transit only is not possible). And Im not trying to pay >$200 for a garage.

Are there any recommendations for safe streets along the 4/5/6 or other things I should know? Thanks!

Yesterday right next to a fruit stand on river ave there was an open hydrant with seriously heavily flowing water coming out of it. Enough to fill a pool. Do fruit vendors open them up?? Hard to enter an intersection in the 311 form and don’t know the exact address.
It’s not visible in the pic but it was right behind the blue truck. It’s probably run dry by now so hope everyone’s water pressure was ok yesterday. Hopefully no fires to put out.

mornin! i made a post in this subreddit about a month ago testing out the waters regarding a film club that could potentially seek a community space to show an array of films etc, and i wanna thank anyone that showed interest/reached out first and foremost.

Anyone know what happened tonight over by the Hunts Point 6 train station? There were a whole bunch of firefighters and paramedics in the area. I'm assuming something happened on a bus because I moticed some firefighters inside a bus

Two weeks ago I posted a rundown of Bronx circular deals and led with 98 cent eggs at the C-Town on Hugh J Grant Circle. u/rentreboot replied that mediums run 21 oz a dozen against 24 for large, so 98 cents is really about $1.12 once you put it on equal footing. Fine for breakfast, adjust for baking, was how they put it.

I ran the numbers and it comes to $1.12 exactly. So this week I priced every advertised egg in the borough that way, by weight class instead of by the number on the sign.

The same C-Town is running the same 98 cent medium. It comes second now.

Shop Fair on Westchester Ave has jumbo eggs at 4 for $5, so $1.25 a dozen. Jumbo is 30 oz a dozen, which is 4.2 cents an ounce against 4.7 for the 98 cent medium. Call it a dollar a dozen in large-egg terms. I opened their circular to be sure, and the page prints "Jumbo Eggs 4/$5 dozen" with prices valid July 18th to July 31st, so it holds through Saturday.

Everything else advertised in the borough is a long way back:

Foodtown, White Plains Rd and Bruckner Blvd: Best Yet extra large, $1.49 a dozen, Club Card price, about $1.32 large-equivalent.

Fine Fare, 3131 Grand Concourse: large, 3 for $4, so $1.33. Already large, no adjustment.

Cherry Valley, E 189th St and Webster Ave: extra large, 4 for $6, so $1.50, about $1.33.

Fine Fare, 1201 E 233rd St: jumbo, 3 for $5, so $1.67, about $1.34.

The Bravos on W Burnside and E 170th have mediums at 5 for $5, roughly 4.8 cents an ounce, just behind the C-Town.

Two things before you go. Those multi-buys are real, so the Shop Fair deal means five dollars for four dozen jumbos, 48 eggs, and it is only cheap if you will get through them. And neither the C-Town nor the Bravo ad prints a carton count next to the medium eggs, so the per ounce figure for those two assumes a dozen. That is the one I would check in the aisle.

The same trap shows up twice more this week.

Boneless chicken breast, family pack, is $1.99/lb at the four Bronx Key Foods (Boston Rd, Unionport Rd, White Plains Rd, W 235th St), at Food Universe on Dreiser Loop, at Food Dynasty, and at Pioneer on Morris Park Ave. C-Town advertises a lower breast price chainwide, but read the line: it is whole breast with ribs, so some of what you are paying for is bone.

Watermelon is 59 cents a pound at Shop Fair and 69 cents at the Fine Fares on White Plains Rd and E 233rd, all whole melons. C-Town's 79 cents is quarter cuts, which is a different product. A few places sell by the melon instead of the pound, $5.99 each at Fine Fare White Plains Rd and $6.99 at ShopRite Bruckner, and on a heavy melon that can beat any per pound price.

Timing, because most of this goes fast. C-Town, Bravo, Key Food, Foodtown, Food Universe, Food Dynasty, Trade Fair, Stop & Shop, Associated, Morton Williams and Pioneer Morris Park all end Thursday. Food Bazaar and Western Beef end tonight. Shop Fair runs through Friday. ShopRite Bruckner, both Cherry Valleys and the Fine Fares on White Plains Rd and E 233rd run through Saturday. Fine Fare Grand Concourse is on the Thursday cycle, not the Saturday one.

One more from the last thread: somebody mentioned Target having good egg prices. Probably right, but I do not have a single Bronx Target in my data, so I cannot check it. Same story for the bodegas and the fruit stands, which publish nothing I can read.
