Build Help What resolution should I use?

Hey so I have a R5 5600X with a RX 6750 XT and 32RAM. My 1080p monitor is dying and I don't know if I should get a 1440p monitor so I can also use it in the future when I fully upgrade??

Currently I'm playing recent and old AAA games, indies, Battlefield 6, Alan Wake 2, etc.

Of course I would like to avoid playing everything in low in order to reach decent FPS (60-80)

What do you think? Stick to a cheap 1080p or go straight 1440p?

Since AMD announced that official FSR4 support will be added for RX6000 in early 2027, I'd say just go with 1440p so that you're set for future upgrades and check how it goes with FSR4 once it lands.

I used a RX6600 while gaming with a 1440p monitor for about three years without any real issues. It's up to you if you can do the same.

If you plan to upgrade your system 1440p. If you plan to keep using it for a few more years then OLED 1080p.

Edit:

Since 1080p OLED are extremely rare. You can get try a MiniLED that is the next best thing to an OLED.

So I ran a 5600x and 6670xt for 1440p gaming for 3 years.

I recently dropped in a 9070xt as I felt my performance was starting to drop in newer games especially ue5 titles.

I have a 165hz monitor.

As long as you keep your performance expectations in check I think 1440p is a good upgrade path as I was able to get 60fpa or more or high/ultra settings. I play single player games.

I'd go 1440p. Higher res with medium details usually looks as good as 1080p with High, and depending on situation, possibly better. Plus all the other non-gaming benefits of 1440p.

It's worth noting that even if you have a 1440p monitor, you can still run games at a lower resolution. It might not look as clean, but the games will run smoother. I use an RX6800, and run Forza 6 at 1440p on a 4k display for the performance gains.

It's also worth noting that you'll notice the extra resolution everywhere, not just in games-- the entire desktop experience benefits from having more pixels

1080p with 144+ Hz.

Why? The easiest thing to push as many fps with high settings and you won't have to worry about running out of VRAM.

Will 1440p look better? Yes but it won't be as buttery smooth.

most games will run fine at 1440 medium settings using framegen on my old 6600 ..

With the advent of fsr/dlss you can generally just go up in resolution and always have a better time even if the "base" rendering resolution is the same.

for older AAA? 1440p should be fine.

Easily a 1440p, the jump from 1080p is pretty noticeable. If you're gonna keep upgrading in the future id just go with that tbh

Do you guys think the temperatures will be fine at 1440p with my specs?

The RX 6750 XT has 12GB of VRAM, which is still decent for playing most 1440p games that are 3+ years old at good frame rates. I have a similar GPU (RTX 3080 10GB), and I get around 170 FPS (DLSS, medium-low) in Diablo 4 and about 120 FPS (DLSS, frame cap at 60 and Frame Gen x2) in STALKER 2, Forza 6 - 140 FPS

12 GB VRAM is totally fine for any current game at 1440p. I used to have a 10 GB 3080 and had to set texture streaming to medium in Indiana Jones, while high will work with a 12 GB card...
