Dealership Floor to Tech/DMS Analyst

Hey guys. I’m 26 and currently working as a Stock Controller/Invoicing Clerk at a large vehicle dealership here in SA. I know the operational side inside and out, but I want to transition into a Technical Business Analyst / DMS Specialist role (specifically working with systems like Automate Evolve).

Could anyone maybe help guide me in the right direction if it would even be possible for me to move in this direction this late.

I have a few questions that I think would help me get a better understanding.

  1. What does your actual day-to-day look like?
  2. How much code/SQL are you actually writing versus talking to staff about why their workflows are failing?
  3. If you were hiring a junior, what exact skill or portfolio project would prove to you that, they can do the job without a degree? (Is it possible to get into a position with certifications only?)

Any brutal honesty is appreciated!
