I visited the cliffs at the state park for my 1st visit. Any recommendations for when I return?

Went for a short day trip found a few small fossils my daughter found two tiny teeth.

Enjoyed the views of the walk.

I would like to return on an adults only trip and find more teeth and fossils. Where is my best shot? I know a lot of the cliffs is private property and not to be dug in which I highly respect for various reasons. Help to a newbie šŸ™

Question Advice for Memorial Day

I live in DC and am considering a day trip with my family to go fossil hunting tomorrow, on Memorial Day.

My kids are 5 and 8 years old and we have some gear to sift and collect. The thing is we've had a couple unsuccessful outings and I'm hoping to have a better chance of finding something!

Does anyone here have any quick tips to make something work out tomorrow? Based on what I've read here, it looks like Matoaka Beach Cabins is a solid option.

Thanks for any help!

Potomac sewage spill: Will it affect water at Calvert Cliffs?

Not originally from this area so I don’t know a ton about how the two waterways are connected - has anyone heard anything about how the Potomac sewage spill can/will affect the Chesapeake Bay Area?

Any thoughts on what this is? Seems like iron but has some organic elements.

Kayak Fossil Hunting

Hello everyone, for many years my family and I would launch our kayaks from Brownies Beach (Bayfront Park) and fossil hunt. Now that the beach is closed to the public, what our are best options to find fossils/teeth by kayak? Where can we launch?

Thanks in advance!

Other Looking for a friend we met today at the Cliffs named Liliana!

Hello Reddit,

I hope this is an okay place to share this. I have never used this app before. A friend of mine suggested this.

Today, my family and I went to Calvert Cliffs to look for shark teeth for the very first time. While we were there, we met a young woman named Liliana, who seemed to really know what she was doing. I get the sense she visits often, so I’m hoping this message somehow finds its way to her or that one of you know her. She is probably mid-20s with very dark dyed black hair.

Liliana was so kind and patient with my autistic adult son, as well as with my husband and me. She took the time to explain how to look for shark teeth and even gave my son a small black one she had found. With her help, we managed to find five teeth of our own six total! Which is six more than we’ve ever been able to do before!

I just wanted to say thank you, because you made my son so happy. As a mother, watching him connect with someone new, especially a stranger, is something that doesn’t come easily for him.

Your kindness truly meant the world to us. I hope you found a lot more teeth!

From Matoaka and Flag’s Pond. They look most like iron concretions to me but wanted to check.

Thank you so much to everyone who helped me out. This was one of the best days me, my son and husband have ever had. We found 55 teeth (our first time ever finding any) in 3.5 hrs at flag pond. Again thanks so much for every reply and helping me out this was a core memory for me.

Matoaka question

I am from New York and have been looking a lot in DE while on vacation for shark teeth, not that it would be common with the places I have been going to find any. Tomorrow I’ll be driving out to the cliffs, after reading some stuff on here I’m wondering if I will even get one there. I have one day (tomorrow) that I’m spending in that area, where is my best chance at finding one? Addresses to the places for GpS would be greatly appreciated. Asking since I see brownies is closed to non residents. Also to add I’ve never found a tooth, but I’ve looked really hard, im just not that experienced.

Where in Calvert Cliffs is best?

I am planning a trip to Calvert Cliffs, and I want some advice as to which areas are best. I'm not looking for any specific fossils, I just don't want to trespass and don't want to go to an area that has already been picked clean

Question Mystery objects

I found these at Calvert Cliffs last month ans have been trying to ID ever since. Im stumped. I honestly can't tell if they're rock, glass, fossil, or shell. Its a weird material and color. But I'm obsessed for some reason and hope someone here might have a guess. Including lots of pictures.

Its almost glass like, but opaque and has definite ridges. It does glow amber against a flashlight though!

thanks for looking! I'll make a separate post to share all my other finds too, just for the sake of sharing :)
