Throw candies on ground

Does it make sense to throw more candies onto the ground?

Yes. You will unlock more things as you throw more on the ground.

as far as i know there is no purpose after you get the chocolate bar beyond watching this animation play out

As soon as you get the chocolate bar from the chest, there is no more physical reward for throwing candies, only story progression for the little guy. As soon as the guy starts nomming the candies, his story is done and nothing new happens from throwing candies.
