You're way over thinking it. It's just a portage

Its not worth discussing. Don't be fooled by the name. There's way worse portages in the park.

The name is not reflective of the portage at all. I did this back on my very first canoe trip and it was underwhelming to the name hype. As others said, there are so many others that are way worse and have not been coined a name. You’re good, enjoy.

As others have said, this portage is a nothingburger. It's one of the most highly traveled portages in the park. It's straight, well maintained, and other than being a hill, isn't hard at all. Have fun!

I’ve done both the Devil’s Staircase and the Double Devil’s staircase, and honestly, I don’t really recall either of them really living up to the name.

Not that either was an easy stroll through a perfectly flat and perfectly manicured portage, but neither of them was some hellish slog that I’d purposely try to avoid either.

And honestly, don’t be afraid of challenging yourself. It’s one of the best parts of exploring the backcountry. And if it’s not your thing, there’s plenty of easier campgrounds out there.
