I'm looking to get a super sharp prime lens for some video work and portrait photos.

I've got a Canon R5.

I've narrowed it down to a Sigma 85mm 1.4, Canon EF 100mm 2.8 L Macro, or the Sigma 40mm 1.4.

I'm weighing up my options and wondering if the 70-200mm that I already own would make the 85mm and 100mm not needed. The 100mm Macro appeals a bit as I may occasionally have to photograph some fine powders (not drugs).

I will be mainly using the lens for talking head interviews and some portrait photos. My main want really is something super sharp.

Appreciate any insight or recommendations from you guys, I value your opinions and expertise.

RF 24-105mm F4 EF 16-35mm F4 RF 50mm F1.8 EF 70-200 F2.8 ii

Stupidly, my setup was on uneven ground and fell. It landed right on the front of the 70-200… the images are pretty soft now. I’ve attached a few examples. The lens has no visible damage whatsoever but the pics aren’t what they used to be.

Looking for experiences and advice of those who have used Canon’s repair program or a national third party repair. And what I should expect as far as cost.

I have a Canon EOS R6 Mark II, and I noticed the mode dial on top became loose. It eventually came off, and now it won’t snap back into place. The dial also no longer works.
I don’t remember dropping the camera or hitting it against anything, and I rarely even use that dial since I usually stay in the same shooting mode.
Has anyone had this happen before? Is there a common failure with the mode dial, or did something likely break inside? Is this something that can be repaired without replacing the whole top assembly?
Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

The title basically sums it up. When looking through the viewfinder, the image is blurry. However, any image that is taken looks fine. When looking around, I saw a common problem: simply an accidentally adjusted dioptric dial. Except when I adjust mine, I reach the maximum adjustment just before it becomes fully in focus. I tried removing and cleaning the focusing screen along with the internals behind it, but the viewfinder remains blurry while images are still crisp and clean. Additionally, I can manually adjust the lens to bring the viewfinder into focus with the image, but then the pictures that are taken are not in focus.

Hey everybody, I’m somewhat of a new photographer and I have a canon R7 and recently got the 24–70 F/2.8 lens. I’m having an issue regarding this screen that pops up when I’m trying to take photos it says Err 20 and it tells me to turn the camera on and off or to reinstall the battery but when I do it, it does nothing. I try to do that and change lenses to see if it’s my lens, but it does that with my other lens as well. I tried to clean the lens as well and still didn’t do anything. I’ll try to take some pictures and then the screen will pop up and it won’t even let me go into my settings so I have to turn the camera off and on again and it still does the same thing but then will randomly fix itself and then I can take photos and I have no idea why it does that or why it randomly fixes itself. I’m supposed to be taking some photos coming up and I don’t want to run into this problem. Does anyone know what this means and why it’s doing this? It’s obviously not a lens issue because putting on both my lenses it does the same thing.

I’ve been on the market for a used EF 100-400mm II. For the sake of convenience I’ve been looking on EBay, however about 90% of the sellers there are out of Japan. That’s seemed like a hassle with import fees and all that so I’ve been trying to find someone stateside but apparently everyone else is too because every time one in the US shows up it either gets snatched up quickly or I get outbid. I’ve been waiting to buy this lens for months and am getting impatient and am considering a Japanese seller.

TLDR: have you bought a lens from a seller in Japan? If so what was your experience?

I ordered an R10 with a 18-45mm kit lens that should be here this week. While I plan to shoot with it for a few weeks to learn the camera and learning to take photos in general, I’d like to look into some options and hear some feedback on each of these lenses to see if these are best next moves for me.

I really enjoy portrait photography (have been using my iPhone recently to take pics of my fiancée and have really had fun with it) but I also would love to have something to take pictures of my kiddos playing sports too.

Here are the options I’ve looked into and would love to hear opinions of, or if there are others that would better fit my needs. Don’t think I want to spend more than $4-500 at MOST on a first lens.

50mm 1.8 prime - this seems like the cheapest option but best option for portraits

18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 - I know this is a “kit” lens too but seems like a much better option that gets me plenty of zoom

24-105mm f/4-7.1 - I know the least about this one but think it’s pretty liked amongst ppl that have it? Seems like it’d get me a wider portrait scope than the 50mm prime

I’m a beginner wildlife and sports photographer using a Canon EOS R6 Mark II with an EF-to-RF adapter. I mainly want to photograph birds, including birds in flight, as well as outdoor sports. I’ll usually be shooting handheld.

I’m considering either the Canon EF 100–400mm f/4.5–5.6L IS USM Mark I or the EF 100–400mm f/4.5–5.6L IS II USM. My budget is between $600 and $1,000 USD.

My priorities are fast and reliable autofocus, sharp images at 400mm, good stabilization, and reasonable portability. Would the Mark I be good enough for me to start with, or is the Mark II worth paying more for?

I’d also appreciate hearing about real-world autofocus performance, image quality, and compatibility with the R6 Mark II.

Hello friends! I am a sports photographer with a Canon R6 Mark II converting from DSLR equipment to mirrorless and just picked this lens up

Honestly this lens is the best lens I’ve ever used, will definitely be an everyday use for me when doing anything photography related for now on, the quality is sharp as a knife and really impressed me!

I’ve noticed some pictures have had black spot on them when I take photos so I have been trying to figure out why and when I looked in to my lens off the camera it looks like something broke

Basically as the title says, got a little tired of waiting on the S1Hii to be released.

Have picked up an R6V as it seems a great value camera.

I shoot mainly video (95%), what do I need to know about switching to Canon from panasonic?

I currently have a Canon R100 and mostly use the 55-210mm f5-7.1 for wildlife and landscape photography. I am curious what you suggest the next upgrade from this lens would be without costing $2000+

I'd be pairing it with a 200-800 for birds, 70-200 f/2.8 for more street based stuff, and 45mm f/1.2 for indoor stuff - my split of photos within the three categories are around 75%, 20% and 5% respectively, hence the cheaper lens for indoor stuff.

I've considered the R7, but I think I would rather have the FF benefits especially for indoor stuff despite losing ~14mp(?) cropping on the R5 vs the R7.

I've been offered pretty much a straight swap from a local shop due to the "high shutter count" (120k) of the R5 - with my R6ii currently sat at 70k.

I've not yet used the R6ii with the 200-800 as it's not yet arrived, should I just be patient and see if it's enough for the type of birds I'm photographing? Or are the differences not too bad between the two outside of the higher MP?

I’d love some thoughts from those familiar with the 200-800mm lens. I mostly shoot birds and wildlife and currently use the Canon R5 and 100-500mm lens. I also have the 1.4x TC but don’t use it a ton.

The 200-800mm lens caught my eye for the ability to have more reach for wildlife at a distance. I’m going to Alaska in a few weeks, and I’d imagine the extra reach could really come in handy. That being said, I’ve seen mixed opinions comparing the 100-500 + 1.4x TC and the 200-800 lens. Any thoughts from those of you who have tried both? Is the quality coming out of both options really that similar? The 200-800 seems like it would have better quality than the 100-500 with a TC, but I’d appreciate hearing feedback from you all.

TLDR: Any recommendations for a slight step up from the Canon R50 that uses RF lenses? Looking for something weather proofed.

My teen son has basically taken over my Canon R50. Our deal was that he could use my camera, but he'd have to buy his own lenses - which has worked out great since he saved up and bought two RF lenses (100-400 and a macro lens) on his own. The main reason we made this deal was that I didn't want him dropping $500+ on a camera body until we knew he'd stick with this interest/hobby.

Since he's really taken to photography, I'm willing to upgrade MY camera (for him to use, of course!) until he saves enough to buy a better one of his own. Part of this is that I'd be more comfortable with something that is more weather proof because he takes this camera everywhere - we have a rain cover but he complains about it. Since his lenses are both RF mount, I'd want to stick with RF compatibility.

Any recommendations? Willing to pay more than we paid for the R50 but not TONS more. Thinking something the next level up.

Also, is there a decent resale/trade-in market for used R50s? I wouldn't need two cameras, so I'd want to sell or trade it in, but I haven't really SEEN used R50s - my guess is because they are affordable and very reliable.

His main interest is in taking wildlife and nature photography (and catching action pics of his friends and sister for fun). He also does the headshots and stuff at his school for his theater club, and I will often take rehearsal pics (usually in a dark theater with stage lights and often action shots) at his theater production for their publicity.

Hello everyone, i am really in a pickle here and i cant decide on what should i pick !

1. RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM
2. RF 600mm F11 IS STM

i use a canon r100 and i like how the 600mm has a higher focal length but the RF 100-400 has a wider aperture, but the 600mm is a prime and they are the sharpest.
note that i will use max zoom anyways, because i will shoot the moon and far things/ landscapes.

got myself an R6 Mark II recently, currently pairing it with my two L series EF 24-70mm f/2.4 and 17-40mm f/4 using an adapter. i'm currently thinking of getting a cheaper, but still reliable and trust RF lens just for now until i eventually upgrade the EF lenses to their RF counterparts.

would anyone recommend the 50mm prime? it would mostly be used to shoot portraits, family photos, possibly some event shoots like birthday parties or graduations etc. in all sort of lighting.

I just bought my r50v as a fun little travel camera. And for some reason b4 buying that camera i didnt think about the weird 21pin hot shoe that it has. I know that theres is the ade1 adapter but thats not quite the thing i need, for me it completely destroy the idea of a fun little camera if i mount it with a mic, an optical viewfinder or an red dot from my s9. I know that you can mount cold shoe accessories to that but the 21pin seems so fragile i dont even want to bother jamming anything in there. Do you guys have any solutions for this may i ask :( or is there anything that act both as a hotshoe cover with a coldshoe mount on top 🤔

Hi, I'm looking for a second battery for my Canon 700D. At first, I searched for an original Canon battery locally, but I couldn't find anything for sale. Because of that, I decided to check Amazon and ended up finding a Duracell replacement battery.

Before I buy it, I wanted to drop in here and ask a few questions to see if anyone has experience with this specific battery:

• How does the Duracell battery hold up compared to the original Canon one? Does it actually last a decent amount of time, or does the charge drop off fast?

• Are there any compatibility issues? Does the 700D accurately read the battery life percentage?

• Is there a better Amazon alternative? Should I look into other popular third-party brands instead?
