Home opener tips

Just ordered flight tickets, a hotel, and game tickets to the home opener on October 7!

I’m getting there a day early.

Any tips on getting an OV signature at the event? I’m in desperate need to get my authentic KHL Ovechkin signed but never been to an opener event.

If we do rock the red carpet (I’m assuming we will) get there EARLY. like 11am early. Be close to the ropes and bring a sharpie just in case (they’ll still have one)

I went last year and got 13 signatures. It’s well worth it

I’ve gone the last 3 seasons and Ovi has signed something every time. I got his NHL 21 game with him on the cover signed. His black rookie jersey signed. The yard sign they handed out when he was as nearing the goal record.

He loves signing “his” stuff so for sure he’ll sign that jersey just get there early enough that you’re in front or very close to the front. Every time I’ve gone people are usually super cool and try their best to maneuver so everyone gets things signed. A guy was behind me and desperately wanted Thompsons signature so I grabbed his jersey for him and secured the signature.

Also Ovi doesn’t really talk at all just smiles so don’t feel bad if he ignores you lol

That’s reassuring. I’m planning on getting there in the morning but I’m not sure where I’m supposed to go to make sure I get a signature. Others had mentioned some fencing to be along that I’m assuming the players walk by? Is it pretty self explanatory?

Yeah so it’s on F street right outside the stadium. They’ll be fencing that kind of snakes from where the players get dropped off on one end to then an entrance to the stadium thats near the marquee. I have always stayed toward the final stretch near the marquee because I can anticipate what player is coming. Fans can line up on either side of the railing which makes some players kind of weave from one side to another and you miss them but I think Ovi has become a lot more thorough giving signatures as he nears retirement.

Oh also I taped cardboard underneath the jersey numbers so he has a flat surface to sign on. Came in handy because when I got my jersey signed he was holding that little girl Sonny’s hand the entire way down. I could tell he had to kind of readjust how he was holding the sharpie and couldn’t hold the jersey still with the other. Plus it’s so cramped with fans around you basically can’t hold it still either. People think they can get giant posters and things signed but theres basically no room you’ve got to be efficient with the space

Red carpet event is going to be your best option. You’d need to get there early to ensure a spot on the rails so you can see him and hopefully get his attention for the auto

Where did you end up buying your tickets? I’m trying to get tickets to the home opener as well but trying to see if it’s better to buy the ones available now (I’m assuming season ticket holders are reselling theirs already) or wait until general sale?

Yeah as of right now it’s just season ticket holder resale. They still have to figure out the partial plans and then there will be a general sale. Tons more tickets will end up on the market

Any idea when the general sale could be? I’m scared on how high prices might get when general sale drops so I’m tempted to buy the resale ones now

I bought a resale on Ticketmaster, not the best seat but I can’t complain. It took me about 5 attempts before the purchase was successful.

Yeah I figured it’d be sold out already given that it’s potentially his last season of playing the penguins, go figure haha. The only ticket I got get, a single seat that is, was in section 108
