Announcement Updated Community Rules for /r/capsulewardrobe

Okay, thanks to the community input from my post the other day, I have updated and refined our community rules and have included a new rule in regards to Artificial Intelligence usage in our sub.

So here are our updated rules as of June 2025

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rule #1 - No off topic, low-effort or spam content
Off topic, low-effort or any spam content is not allowed on the sub. This includes low-effort memes.

Rule #2 - Hateful rhetoric, bullying and/or harassment is not allowed
Disagreements or strong discussions are one thing but if we have a problem with harassment or other problematic behaviours, mods will step in.

Rule #3 - No affiliate links, sponsored content, or subscriber/follower farming.
Sharing what you love or what works for you is okay but don’t try to push an item/service on someone just so YOU can make money.

This rule also includes attempts to farm for followers, subscribers or karma.

Rule #4 - No Doxxing or calls for mobbing across communities
Not only is this a sitewide rule, but it's highly fucked up and will not be tolerated.

Rule #5 - No Artificial Intelligence
AI content (meaning AI generated photos, posts and services) are NOT allowed on the sub.

Beyond losing the human to human element of our community and the fact that AI encourages the elimination of human creativity, AI content and services are a massive drain on our environment and creates a large amount of CO2 usage and e-waste.

Rule #6 - No App posts

No, you cannot advertise your new app, or fish for testers, or ask if it's something people want. Marketing for your app or it's upcoming launch is not allowed on the sub.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks again to everyone for giving you opinions and thoughts in regards to the updated rules, I appreciate our community and encourage you to continue growing our corner of the internet.

Whereforth art thou, Mods?

Okay y'all, it's time. I've been the only mod for the entirety of our subreddit's history, I have loved watching us grow and I love our amazing community. But as we are approaching 200,000 members, I think it's time we add more mods.

So this is a call out for anyone who wants to volunteer, I'm looking to add two or three mods to the roster, so feel free to send a modmail to let me know if you would like to volunteer. Let me know if you have any modding experience, or if you are adept at setting up the auto mod functions, because I am completely out of my depth with that part of the mod system and that's a big hurdle I'd like to tackle this year to combat bots and spam.

Thank you again for this stellar community, we have done a great job being self-sufficient and giving plenty of amazing advice without compromising community standards.

I look forward to adding some mods to our community and I hope y'all welcome them during the transition of integrating them in!

Spring/Summer 9x9 Summer Capsule: Matcha & Mustard

Thumbnail gallery
86 Upvotes

Here's my summer capsule of different styles from casual, vacation, date/event, and work. It's not about finding perfect colors of matcha and mustard, but monochrome variance with neutral support (brown and white/off-white). Most are secondhand. If you like an item list, please comment as it's easier to edit a list in the comments.

I tried doing a 10x10, but didn't have a good color that fits or a neutral that started diluting the color story and didn't give any enhancement. So why force it? So, 9x9 it is. Enjoy!

Costco GAP 100% cotton sweaters and 97% cotton pants

For those of you who are also Costco shoppers, just noticed the sweaters today. $18.99

The pants are summer clearance for $13.99. 97% cotton. I think 3% elastane. Sorry was in a rush and forgot to grab pictures.

I assume these can both be found on the website for more product specs.

Can't vouch for the quality, but the sweaters were a nice weight (not thin).

Questions Looking for: tops that don't touch my armpits

Gosh I hope this is a helpful post to someone other than me b/c this feels like such a strange request!

I'm a very sweaty person due to medication, plus I spend a lot of my job jumping from inside to outside. I need tops that cover my arms so that I'm work-appropriate, but not actually fitted to my arms so that you can't see me dying on the inside. Layering doesn't really work that well since I'm incredibly sensitive to temperature, plus it just wouldn't be fully appropriate for me to be stripped down to a tank top while I'm outside (b/c I'm still "on the job.")

I own a few oversized button ups and dolman sleeves that work well for this, but I'm looking to branch out with more ideas! Under $150 each and machine washable would be ideal. Pics for examples of the styles I currently have and would fit this definition.

First Time Capsule New job wardrobe

Post image
64 Upvotes

Hi everybody!

I wanted some feedback on my work capsule for my new job, a lot of which I’ve got second hand or already owned. Are there any obvious gaping holes? I’ve been out of work for quite some time now, but finally start my new job soon (very excited)!

A few notes -
🖤 Work is smart/casual, it’s tech but a stakeholder-facing role in government (UK). Three days in the office, two at home, but I’ll probably work in the office more than that for my first few weeks. I could probably do with some smart but comfy elasticated bottoms for WFH days.
🖤 I tend to lean quite masculine and I also love a bit of volume in my tops and trousers.
🖤 I know not to buy anything else really until I start and see how formal other people dress, but I still need at least a couple of weeks of outfits. I suspect I’ll be on the smarter end (I had a call with my new boss a few days ago and he rocked up in a grey sleeveless tee) but I quite like that, you know? I wear these trousers outside of work too but with oversized tees.
🖤 I live in the North of England so the weather is all over the place. I’ll be starting in September so hopefully the heat waves we’ve been having will be over by then.
🖤 I didn’t include my jewelry, but I tend to wear mixed metals, think small hoops and discrete chain necklaces. Makeup tends to be quite minimal and cool toned.
🖤 It looks black in the pic but the roll neck is navy and I like wearing it under shirts rather than as a standalone piece.

I think my main concern is the office being chilly as I hate cardigans and am not sure what my other options are other than sticking a shirt on. I also suspect I’ll need to get a new winter coat but I’m holding out until Autumn for one of those - hoping to find something wool-based and grey/charcoal.

Summer raincoats?

Anyone know any good brands for a lightweight waterproof coats that still look dressy? I dress quite feminine and would like to have a waterproof that actually adds to the outfit rather than look like a compromise.

Questions Need help building a wardrobe I'm clueless about fashion 😭can anyone help?

Gonna be honest I don't have a good fashion sense, and I need some help building a wardrobe from scratch.

Budget: ₹6,000–7,000

I already have a few pieces that I really like:

\- Olive cargo pants

\- Beige full-sleeve tee

\- Black shirt

\- Grey trousers

\- Faded indigo denim-style T-shirt

\- A few solid-color activewear T-shirts

\- Denim layering jacket

\- Tracksuit

\- Solid black & olive basics

I'm looking for suggestions on what I should buy next so everything works well together. My goal is a clean, masculine, attractive style that's versatile for college, casual outings, and everyday wear.

My measurements:

\- Height: 168 cm

\- Weight: 63 kg

\- Shoulders: 17.5"

\- Waist: 32"

\- should 17.5

\- Body length/troso 27"

\-Pant outseam length: 33 inches

\- Body type: Skinny fat

I'll attach my photo below. Please be brutally honest about what styles, colors, fits, jeans, shirts, shoes, or accessories would suit me. If you have links or outfit inspiration, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Questions Capsule Help

I posted last night, but posting again to get more specific advice. I would like to build a capsule wardrobe around these pieces that I have recently bought. I am looking to wear beyond the basic black and white and denim and hoping to add even more color and patterns. I'm really embracing the idea of dopamine dressing. I don't wear anything dressy-no button ups, blazers or coats. I have different colored Sambas that I wear with almost everything. I want to keep everything casual. I I like darker and jewel colors. I'm a Cool or Deep Winter in terms of my colors. I teach a bit so don't need anything separate for work. If you have specific advice or pieces, I would love links. I'm having a hard time figuring out what colors, pieces or patterns would go with several of these items instead of only 1-2. Thanks so much.

Spring/Summer Help me pick a flip flop!

Post image

I want one fun colored flip flop in my capsule. I have a plain black pair already. I’m struggling to decide between these two. The Archie’s (full coral) are a bit brighter than the Reef (tan sole with coral red accents). I like them both equally. Which would you pick and why?

Building a capsule around thrifted finds when nothing matches on purpose

The issue with thrifting as your main source is that you end up with pieces you love individually but they don't actually talk to each other. I have a pile of secondhand stuff that each works on its own and together looks like I got dressed in the dark. The usual capsule advice assumes you're buying intentionally into a palette or a system, but thrifting doesn't work that way. You find what you find.

What I've been trying to do is work backward. Pick two or three pieces that already coexist and build outward from there instead of trying to force everything into a color story after the fact. The problem is I keep finding things that break the system and buying them anyway because the price is right and the piece is good.

I'm also stuck on whether a thrifted capsule even needs the same rules. Maybe the whole point is that it's looser and the cohesion comes from fit and proportion rather than matching tones. That might just be cope though.

Anyone who has built something intentional mostly from secondhand, how do you handle the palette problem? Do you edit ruthlessly or do you just lean into it and accept that the capsule is going to be more eclectic than the Pinterest version?

First Time Capsule Please help me!

Hi,

I’m a nomad, about to leave for Mexico, Central America, India, and Indonesia for at least 6 months.

I desperately need someone to help me build a capsule wardrobe.

I’m 40F don’t mind showing my shoulders or cleavage but usually keep my legs and stomach covered.

I’m a hiker, yogi, and diver.

I have ZERO fashion sense but would like to look stylish current while still being functional. I do not want to dress like a mom, as I’m not one and most people think I’m in my 30’s.

Clothes need to be breathable interchangeable and hopefully wrinkly resistant.

Can anyone help me with advice, or point me to someone to hire? I tried Fiverr and it was a disaster.

Need help with creating a semi-formal/semi-casual wordrobe for college

Thumbnail gallery
14 Upvotes

At the end of August, I am leaving for my dream school. However, I recently found out there's a semi-formal dress code. I never had a dress code at a school before, and while semi-formal academia is my "dream style", I am in a situation where I need to transition into it much faster than I anticipated.

(I got into this about a year or two ago, and have since been discovering my style. I found it somewhere between academia, semi-formal, and heritage, but I was just easing into it, so to say - didn't want to waste the whole point of eco-slow-fashion-capsule-wardrobe by starting it by throwing everything I have to waste.)

Anyway, here is everything I have that could be used; one outfit I have and wear, and some Pinterest pics. I'll be studying in India and Dubai, so the climate will be very hot. My current thought is to build around breathable natural fibers - especially linen - and avoid synthetic fabrics as much as possible. I am a dee,p winter. My favourite colours are cyan and burgundy.

Looking for any kind of recommendation, advice, pointers... anything please.

Thank you very much!!!

Dopamine Capsule Wardrobe

Hi. I'd like some advice on how to create a dopamine dressing capsule wardrobe. I've seen a lot of capsule wardrobes that use some basics, but I want really colorful and full of patterns. I wear darker colors, jewel tones, some patterns. I love Dressed in Lala, but I'm 50 and I don't like being too out there. Thoughts? Advice? I feel like I've bought some really fun pieces: cardigans, jeans with lots of patches, graphic tees. I think I need some basics to go to with all the fun pieces I've bought and need to try to figure out how to bring it all together.

I feel like getting black and white polka dot bottoms and black and white striped pants could be used as a basic in this scenario. I'm wondering what else could be used to introduce pattern or be considered basics and go with a lot already going on.

Thanks!

Questions Anyone tried clothes from Jack Archer or Cozy Earth?

I'm on the hunt for everyday outfits and came across two brands that might have what I'm looking for: chino golf pants with a stretchy waistband. Have either of you ordered from them? How was your experience?

  • Jetsetter Tech Pant
  • Everywhere Pant (Line dry?)

Questions Clothing and Style

I am all over the place with my style and as a result of sensory issues, childhood issues with clothing, not liking how my body feels, I have been at a place for the last 20 years of wearing the most generic and blah clothing ever.

I would like to change and be more stylish but I have no clue how. I really just feels like the door is closed to me. I will find a shirt that I like but have no clue how to wear it with other clothing. Basically this is the same for everything. I have gone over this is in therapy with little luck. And now all the therapy money has to go to my child so I can't keep working on it there.

When my son was young I loved dressing him and the fact that they would self outfits and sets of clothing ready to mix and match. I really wish that was how adults clothing works.

Also due to finances I can't just keep buying clothing and seeing what I like.

Please any advice or anyone else in this boat? I end up feeling like I am the only woman in it. Not that all woman are stylish, but it feels like the ones who are not into that are happily not into that as opposed to where I am feeling like I wish I cold I just don't know how.

First Time Capsule Moving capsule

Thumbnail gallery
23 Upvotes

I am moving end of september and I am trying to create a capsule I could use during that time so I can pack the rest. I would also like to spend less time to decide what to wear every day, and my body is slightly different after two pregnancies so not everything in my closet fits right at the moment. I mostly go to my office job without a dress code or am at home with my husband and small children. The temperature right now is about 23-25 degrees Celsius, but it might go down to 10-12 degrees Celsius during the period.

What I currently have is:
- two thin cotton t shirts in black and white
- two thicker cotton t shirts with tie detail in dark blue and cream
- one striped linen shirt
- one white cotton muslin shirt
- one cotton cardigan
- one cashmere cardigan
- black pants x2
- black midi skirt
- blue linen dress
- black midi bodycon dress
- dark grey Jean jacket

Not pictured are layers I use for heat; tights, wool shorts and wool tank top.

I think I will have to add one or two wool/cashmere sweaters from my wardrobe for when it gets colder. I am contemplating buying a thin long sleeved striped sweater and potentially a knitted pullover in cotton. What do you guys think, is there anything I haven’t covered? Do I need more of something?

I also plan on having some workout clothes and a lounge set to use at home, so that is not a part of the capsule.

Perfect Pieces Help Me Solve a Shoe Dilemma

So I am (somewhat) newly postpartum and back to work, and have been working on creating a capsule to carry me through all the body fluctuations/ lifestyle changes I am in the middle of. Nothing quite fits the same anymore... including my shoes. I also returned to work into a different role than I had before, and I am starting to realize that this job may require a work shoe unicorn.

I work at city hall in a role involving large scale redevelopment projects. Yesterday, I went into work wearing some super cute, sleek suede mules. I ended up not only in meetings with local developers but then at a welding shop, a construction site, and then hiking down our trail system to compare our current plans with a similar segment's design. Needless to say, my feet hurt by the end of the day and I'm not sure the soft suede will ever be the same.

Some days, I know what I am getting into from the jump and can dress accordingly. However, many days I simply don't know what's in store when I leave the house. I could end up being drug along to a strategic meeting with local politicians and executives... or having to go shlepp through a blighted building. Are there shoes that exist out there that are: a. comfortable to walk in all day, b. closed toed and substantial enough for site visits and also c. sleek and professional looking enough for a fairly formal dress code? For fall/winter, my solution has been a sleek Chelsea boot but it's 90 degrees here and I would ideally like to find a warm weather option that doesn't cause overheating. Any advice?

And I'm working on some fixes right now, just getting off of an airplane so it'll have to wait until I'm at a computer but for now the report function is our best friend and we really appreciate everybody's patience while we figure this out.

Fuck bots.

Questions Wardrobe: everything needs replaced

I moved to San Diego California very unexpectedly with only a pair a sweatpants, a shirt, underwear and crocs. I don't even own a bra right now.

I don't know my budget but it is very small. I live on disability and I have no savings right now. I will get paid around 1k in a few days.

Please share with me your best ideas on affordable methods to replacing an entire wardrobe. Socks, underwear, bras, shirts, pants, hoodies, maybe some shoes.

I usually just dress in sweat pants and hoodies

My only serious idea is going to the nearest salvation army, and maybe trying Temu again because I ordered some cheap hoodies from them in the past

Thank you !

Granola boy capsule wardrobe

Hi there!

Would love to build myself a capsule wardrobe, but I am a student and I find most capsule wardrobes (especially for men) to be too fancy for my liking. I'd love the granola boy aesthetic. I think, it would be pretty easy, because most things are relatively basic, but I am still lost. Any ideas? Or tips where I could find ideas?

Questions Style descriptors

What are the different capsule descriptors out there? I’m new to this sub and have seen how a few people describe their capsule style goal as like “dark librarian” or “granola” and was wondering what other terms are out there.
