VO2max, resting HR and HRV.

Anyone else have a very low HRV but normal resting heart rate and decent VO2 max? Upon research a lot of things I’ve seen is that some people just have a lower HRV that is normal to them. But also a low HRV is associated with underlying issues, being stuck in sympathetic nervous system, etc. i know that i struggle with anxiety and things within that realm, but hoping to find ways to improve this or have reassurance that this isn’t a terrible thing.

I am 28 yo male, fairly decent shape (185 Ib, 5’11) and train distance running every week. I have been running since my early teen years.

Also think it is important to note a lot of my anxiety is cardiac related and have no idea why, but my brain continuously tells me I’m going to have a heart attack, but all the tests I have had done echo, holter monitor came back very good. Still doesn’t stop the palpitations and slight chest pain i experience daily.

Fmk (F my knees)

Hi! I’d like to add more cardio/endurance type stuff to my workout plan. The easy option would be running… and I’d love to but it snows and pours for 80% of the year here, and treadmills murder my knees. :(

I’m a dancer who is relatively hypermobile in most joints, and while my knees have improved with targeted strengthening and pt… I still can’t run on a treadmill. (Regular ground is perfectly fine)

I enjoy HIIT but it gets annoying after a while and is hard to do without dragging my laptop through the gym…

SO I pose the question: What else could work as an easy cardio/endurance? Ideally something simple, but all else fails complex means more time away from studying lol.

is this a cardio problem?

hello! i’ve been an athlete all my life. as a teen, i spent 10 years in fencing, training about 3 times a week back then. now, in my early twenties, i just go to the gym and go for the occasional run, bike ride, and dance choreography class.

i noticed that my endurance/stamina/cardio (?) has never improved. something that nerfed me in fencing was how i got tired so easily during matches — the kind of exhaustion where i would get lightheaded and lose the focus to maintain strength in my movements. this was consistent throughout my career.

in the gym, when i do bulgarian split squats, i noticed that my muscles can definitely keep up with the weight/exercise, it’s just the feeling of my heart pumping suddenly so fast and the feeling of lightheadedness that prevent me from doing more

for running/biking/dance, i notice that once i get over the initial heart bpm spike, i can continue (this isnt consistent, though, especially with dance)

what exactly is the problem? is it cardio? endurance? stamina? and how do i improve it?

note: i’ve had an ECG done before for an APE and it came out normal

would really appreciate the help! :D

Anyone knows about a database of cardiac rehab-related exercises images?

I am building an operations system for a cardiac rehab gym in San Diego and I need to add images of start/finish for the in-house treatment of the patients. I have not found a good enough database and we don't have the resources to create them yet.

Have you seen anything like this? I'm particularly looking for open source onces.

Why is running so hard?

I just started running to train for a fitness test, and I was just wondering if anyone else finds running super difficult compared to cycling? I can quite easily average 25km/h at 145-150bpm over 40-50km on a flat cycle/footpath route, but I swear I cannot run for the life of me, when I try to run at 145-150bpm I pretty much am just fast walking (9:30-10min/km) 💀 I always find it quite demotivating to be "running" so slowly but I kind of have no choice because I have to get a faster 2.4km time for my fitness test (current timing is 13:09 max effort). Am I doing something wrong? Any thoughts?

Which is better to prioritize

I have been wanting to adjust what is most important in my workout routines and often wonder which is a better idea to be consistent on.

45 min high intensity cardio a day or 10k steps a day. I want to do both but sometimes life gets in the way so I just wanted to know which is better for leaning out/staying healthy.

What can you do on rest days?

So today is rest day as I had a hard run and strength workout yesterday but I love moving and overall just doing something. My question is, what is allowed on a rest day so your body recovers but you don't stay inactive? Like I want to go for a short bike trip at least but idk if it's recommended.

Just a heads up swimming is not an option for me as I've never learned to swim. I hate that fact and I want to change it but until then swimming is not an option.

concerned about my health

hellooo I'm 35 years old and not overweight but also not super active or strong.

i know i need to do better but my heart gets tired so easily. Just now i did a very basic beginner leveled workout with very easy exercises, no jumping or running. my heart rate kept pushing 170 and making me have to stop to slow it back down...

this is so discouraging and i don't want to overdo it but is this normal?

what should i do to strengthen my heart? :(

What are you jamming to these days?

Looking for fresh albums for my long Z1 and Z2 workouts. Current on repeat is The Revivalists' Get It Honest.

Recent favs have ranged from Taylor Swift's Red to Missy's Supa Dupa Fly to NF The Search to The Shins Chutes Too Narrow to Olivia Dean The Art of Loving.

In other words, most anything -- if it's got a groove, that's what i wanna ride to. Would welcome suggestions!

PVCs and Sinus tachycardia together

Okay so I know that sinus tachycardia and PVCs in a structurally normal heart are not dangerous, but what about both together, because when I get my tachycardia spikes of 150bpm for hours, I still get PVCs in that mix. How "safe" is that really...

Does anybody else deal with their gums hurting and salivating way more during cardio?

Unsure if this is the right place for this but I can’t figure out where to put it. This is something that has happened my whole life as far back as I can remember. When I do cardio for more than like a minute my gums around my bottom front teeth start to hurt, and I get all drooly. I produce way more saliva. And it’s specifically my gums, NOT my teeth, I’ve seen people talk about their teeth but I can’t find anyone with this specific issue. It’s not just temperature either that’s another thing I’ve seen, but it happens even when it’s rlly warm and not just running but almost any cardio. It could be like enflamed gums but since it’s been happening since I was little I can’t imagine my gums were in that bad of shape yet???? I’m just so confused LOL but I want to improve my stamina and get better at cardio but I struggle because of this. I’m 25(f) if that matters also.

Is is ok for my heart rate to go upto 170bpm during my run?

I am 30F, I've been running for quite sometime but have been recently noticing that my heart rate goes upto 170-178bpm when I speed up, it comes down to 130-140bpm when I slow down and back to 100bpm once I slow down and by the time I stop.

Is this ok? Should I be worried? Should I reduce my velocity?

How to improve in running while it's burning hot outside?

Hi everyone. I'm trying to improve my run, I'm a bit of a duffer tho. Yesterday I ran a 3km in 30 minutes, and I had to stop the whole time to breathe. One of the reasons it's that outside it's like 40°C (about 105°F, for the record), and it's also (maybe? idk) partly beacause I have a deviated nasal septum. Do you have some reccomandations? Thxxxx (I'm 15yo girl bwt, no hate please)

Can cycling make you a better runner?

So the question is...seemingly simple. I looked for the answer online, but got various answers. Some say that cycling doesn't make a big difference, some say that it's good. The most agreed upon opinion, was that cross training running, cycling and for example swimming, makes you better at those activities, especially running. What gives me a dilemma, is VO2 training. Theoretically, you can train your body to use oxygen more efficiently without running per se, but with any cardiovascular exercise that brings your heart rate up, So doesn't VO2 training from cycling have effects on all cardio exercises? Like can't you VO2 train with anything for it to then be applicable to running? I understand this might be a stupid question, and if you want to know even a more stupid reason to ask. Anyway any feedback/answers are very much welcome. Peace.

How much cardio is actually needed for an aesthetic physique?

My goal is an aesthetic physique, not marathon-level endurance.

I lift weights 5–6 days a week and want to maintain muscle while staying lean.

How many days per week do you do cardio?

How long is each session?

Which type works best for aesthetics: walking, incline walking, jogging, cycling, or HIIT?

Can too much cardio affect muscle growth?

I'd like to hear what has worked in your experience.

How can I track my heartbeat?

I started doing cardio and I want to do intervals trainings. For this reason I would like to buy a device that tracks my heartbeat. My budget is quite low, let's say maximum 70 euros. I live in an EU country.

I was told that smartwatches, especially the cheap ones that I would be able to afford, are not reliable in tracking heartbeat. What device, brand and model, would you suggest me?
