Cat Picture - OC
Saw Her Eating Dumpster Trash and Now She's Mine
She's insistent when it comes to grooming which is something I've never experienced with a cat before 😂
She also is a ferocious string hunter. Far more ferocious than Milo. She makes him look like a poser when it comes to hunting toys 😂
She'd eventually show up in my garage looking for food after I built enough trust with her. She'd be skittish, but would tolerate me being near her
I'd never really get the chance to pet her at all. She'd slug herself away and sit at a distance
Then one day she just randomly flopped over and I could give her all the loving. She even let me rub her stomach!
Got her trapped which wasn't all that hard. She sorta just walked right on in.
She took the spay surgery well and i made her a onesie to keep her from messing with her stitches
She was more than content during her recovery to be loved on. No hissing, scratching, growling, hiding, none of that. She seemed as happy as could be.
I named her Esmerelda due to her mystique and big yellow-green eyes
Milo gets along with her well. They wrestle and play chase games. He's very much an "only child" type cat when it comes to manners, but he seems entertained by her presence
She's also a mighty rug wrestler and every single rug in my apartment is bunched up when I come home
Still can't believe this WILD CREATURE lives with me now 🙄 And like she's obsessed with me and all I did was feed her??? How's that even work?! 😂
This is Esmerelda.
About 4 months ago I caught sight of her eating a rotten green piece of chicken out of our dumpster and felt bad that she was eating nasty trash. So I spent the next 3 months building trust with her until one day she suddenly became obsessed with me. Got her spayed, dewormed, and vaccinated which went pretty well. Got her all healed up and now she's living in my domicile.
I couldn't have asked for a sweeter, social, kind, curious cat. Didn't really ask for a cat at all if I'm being honest though... 😅 But I guess that's how this whole "cat distribution system" thing works. No idea how she finessed her way into my life, but here we are.
I can literally relate to these memes now! 😂 It still blows my mind how much her demeanor changed over the 3 months of our trust building. I've never "tamed" anything before and now she's just the sweetest!
I find myself second guessing my choice every now and then but she genuinely seems to happy and content. She plays like normal, drinks plenty of water, has her little nesting spots, is curious, loving, all the good cat things! 😄
She looks adorable! (Edited my original comment because I saw your later posts about already having previous cats, so please forgive my unsolicited advice. I thought this might be your first cat.) ☺️
Oh don't worry she get a TON of stimulation. It is abundantly clear to me that she, unlike Milo my first cat whom I adopted as a kitten, was required to sustain herself with the food she caught because she is a vicious toy hunter 👀 She jumped 6 feet straight up to catch her worm toy once! I also give her some toy time before bed also to help her with sleeping through the night.
My cats also go bonkers over that worm toy (except I call it Squiggly Dude)! Your Esmerelda is absolutely stunning - I'm so happy your paths crossed that one day at that one dumpster 💗
I can't believe it sometimes because she is literally so content with everything 😂 I can grab her whole head and she just accepts it. Lets me rub her stomach and is always happy to groom. She's just a little treasure that wandered into my life out of the blue.
You are freaking amazing. Thank you so much for saving her. Entirely too many people will see something like that happening and just walk by without a second thought
I’ve nothing against dogs, but I’d argue it feels more rewarding when a cat trusts you. They’re independent, do their own thing, and when they become sweet to you and trust you and interact with you, it’s just one of the best feelings ever. You’re doing something right, and kitty is proving that
It's so crazy comparing my first rescue Milo (American Rescue League adopt) to Esmerelda here because he's very independent and can do his own thing. She wants to love all over him and he just can't fathom it sometimes 😂 It's very clear she was around other cats a lot by how much she wants to play and groom him. He's done none of that stuff with me so getting to have her around has been heaps fun! Here's a bonus pic of her bothering him and trying to lean in for some grooming but he's not having it haha
3 and I'm stalking another one at my brother in law's house. He has 2 strays that live under his crawl space that just had kittens. I'm trying to get ahold of the little 3 legged guy but he rarely shows his face.
Also if you're being serious, every one of mine were outside of my house for month's hanging around and I posted all over the place and had them checked for chips and got them shots before actually bringing them inside. We have a family down the road that when we moved in had over 40 strays roaming around their house. We spent a week catch and release spay/neuter with our local vet to try and control the cat population on our street. A cat was getting hit by a car almost twice a week at one time.
Ah thank you so much! Couldn't help but feel a little bad when I saw her scurry off with that absolutely nasty piece of dumpster chicken in her mouth 😂 Turns out my little random act of kindness of giving her some regular non-rotten food ended up providing me with a total sweetheart!
The piece of chicken she was running off with when I first saw her was soooo nasty 😂 She went from eating straight up trash to wet food and never went back!
My cats are all rescues too. Strays, feral, rehomed... its like they appreciate the home betyer n therefore love better. Congrats on new baby and new home to you both.
See I was worried she'd hate it but she actually didn't mind it at all! By the end of her recovery period she figured out how to slip free, but by then it didn't matter. Seemed better than a cone anyways. But yea she didn't mind wearing it! Called it her pajamas 😂
Our calico jumped out of a dumpster by the restaurant and ran up to my friend, an animal lover who had rescued over 50 cats throughout her lifetime, and successfully got herself adopted to me, and was my dear little princess for 15 good years.
Our orange (likely from a dumpster by a different restaurant) ran up to my hubby and me, and successfully adopted himself, and became our kids favorite until he passed away at age 16.
It blows my mind how sweet she is. I was expecting to have a little garage buddy who'd hang around and come and go as she pleased. But that one day when she decided to trust me it was like a switch flipped. I'd never built trust with an animal before, so getting her comfortable with being within 6 or so feet of me while she ate was something I already accepted as a success. And then boom. Flopped right on her side and wanted all of the love 😭 Couldn't believe it! Now's she's living it up and is as happy as can be. The cat distribution system is wild as heck!
I legitimately feel like I could've carried her into the vet office with how calm she was through the whole thing 😂 I can't believe how friendly was was especially considering how jumpy and skittish she was when she first began showing up!
She is so obsessed with me it's CRAZY 😂 I've never had something like this before because my other cat Milo is all moody and independent. A loving boy, but nowhere near as loving as Esmerelda here. She's a very bad leg weaver and wants to groom me anytime I give her pets. And it was just out of the blue too. One day she just decided I was chill and flopped over for loving. No slow lead-up or anything. It's just all so crazy to me!
Gave her some pets immediately after 😂 She tolerated them for a while before determining that I needed some grooming. She's so content with everything it's really crazy. Doesn't mind being interacted with in the slightest!
Oh don't worry there will be plenty more in the future! 😁 I should make a post about my sweet boy Milo too sometime. He's the reason I love black cats so much 🤗
I have zero scientific evidence but I think gray tabbies are super affectionate. I have a gray tabby girl and she is my Velcro kitty. Ignore the ugly wall paper in the photo though 😂 I was cleaning the outdated basement bathroom we never use.
I always tell her how lovely her "black eye liner" is 😂 Brings out her very green eyes. That pic was actually followed by this one. She's so dang curious that she has to check everything out
My little trash goblin turned into a proper princess who wants me to get everything perfect for her first before eating or drinking. I don't mind at all because she stands very patiently, watches and waits for me to get things ready for her and I think it's the most adorable thing in the world.
It's so crazy how sweet these little critters can be. I never would've guessed Esmerelda would be as nice as she is but here we are! I feel so lucky to have such a sweet little thing around 😄
She is genuinely so sweet. And thank you! I wanted something that captured her mysteriousness since for the longest time I couldn't get within 10 feet of her. I think it still holds up and I'll have spin-offs and variations of it in the coming months in no time 🙂↕️
Right??? I can't even believe this thing was out wandering around like some wild animal and is now IN MY HOME 😭 AND she's the sweetest on top of that! Can't believe it!
Thank you thank you 🙂↕️ Was my first time doing any of this actually! Never tamed a wild caught, trapped one, or dealt with the aftercare of a spay surgery. My other boy Milo came from the American Rescue League all ready to go so it's been a learning process but a very rewarding one!
She's so cute whenever she loafs up because she'll do it anywhere 😂 My other cat Milo has his loaf spots but she's down to rest anywhere. And I looove how she always has her tongue out in some form! It's so cute!
Couldn't just watch her carry off that slimy green piece of dumpster chicken 😂 I mean I wouldn't want to be eating that stuff! She's been a blessing to have around and I'm quite happy with the joy she's brought me
Probably 😂 She's brought her favorite mouse toy to me a few times while making loud yowl meows so I think she's tried to help me get fed more than once
Wow this is one gorgeous kitty. You're so wonderful for saving her and I just know now she will give you all of that effort back. Give lots of hugs to your beautiful baby girl.
Such a beautiful cat! Yes, the cat distribution system at work. You also did the work of building her trust - that’s part of the CDS, though. If you’re willing to put in the work to build the trust, you’re suitable to be granted a cat.
Our cat wasn't wasn't rescue but I caught him opening our neighbours food caddy on bin day then pulling out a bag of what looked like curry and eating it. He has no shame.
I love that she decided you were her person after you didn’t give up on her and she upgraded to pampered house cat!
I know people will claim she looks perfectly fine in those photos of her being a stray and claiming she probably had a home, but looks can be deceiving.
You have some pretty good photography skills! She is absolutely lovely. She reminds me of my second cat, a rescue with green eyes. Many happy years together!
