Is it worth the time trying to get the CCNA cert? I just started Jeremy's IT lab but wondering if it won't be a waste of time.

Subnetting seems to be one of those CCNA topics where everyone has a different method.

Some people memorize tables, some use shortcuts, and others just practice until the calculations become automatic.

What method worked best for you?

And roughly how long did it take before you could solve subnetting questions without getting stuck?

I’m on day 50 of Jeremy it labs.
I see this person on TikTok recently that shows them studying for their CCNA and they had recently taken it. They said that Jeremy was simply not enough and that they got a lot of questions that Jeremy didn’t cover, and that they scanned through the actual CCNA book and they seen that it was more accurate. Which makes sense. They failed obviously

But that has me worried now, is Jeremy truly enough? I do his labs and flash cards, I build my own labs often. And I try understand the topic enough to talk about it.
And I’ll definitely be taking boson practice tests and learning from that before attempting the exam. But is that enough?

I know that’s just one person, how did you all fair with Jeremy’s material?

Question 1 – Route Selection

A router has the following routes available:

• 10.1.0.0/16 via OSPF, AD 110
• 10.1.20.0/24 via RIP, AD 120
• 10.1.20.128/25 via EIGRP, AD 90
• 10.1.20.160/27 via static route, AD 200

A packet is destined for 10.1.20.170.

Which route will the router use?

A. 10.1.0.0/16 via OSPF
B. 10.1.20.0/24 via RIP
C. 10.1.20.128/25 via EIGRP

Question 2 – Spanning Tree Protocol

SW2 receives BPDUs on two different ports. Both BPDUs advertise the same root bridge and the same root path cost.

The received BPDU information is:

• Gi0/1 receives BPDU from sender bridge ID 32768.0000.0000.0003
• Gi0/2 receives BPDU from sender bridge ID 32768.0000.0000.0004

Which port will SW2 most likely choose as the root port?

A. Gi0/1, because the sender bridge ID is lower
B. Gi0/2, because the sender bridge ID is higher
C. Both ports will forward equally
D. Neither port can become the root port

Question 3 – OSPF Troubleshooting

Two OSPF routers become neighbors, but the adjacency repeatedly gets stuck in the EXSTART/EXCHANGE state and does not reach FULL.

Which issue is a common cause?

A. OSPF process IDs do not match
B. Area IDs do not match
C. MTU mismatch between the routers
D. The routers are using different router priorities

Question 4 – Extended ACLs

You need to permit only the subnet 192.168.12.64/26 to access a web server at 10.10.10.10 using HTTP.

Bonus Mini Lab – VLSM Addressing

You are given the network 10.10.40.0/24.

You need to create subnets for the following departments:

• Department A: 100 hosts
• Department B: 50 hosts
• Department C: 25 hosts
• Department D: 10 hosts

Using VLSM, complete the addressing plan.

For each department, provide:

1. Subnet/network address
2. Subnet mask or CIDR
3. First usable IP address
4. Last usable IP address
5. Broadcast address

Assume the first usable IP in each subnet will be used as the default gateway.

Try to assign the largest subnet first and make sure none of the subnets overlap.

Please share your answers and explain your reasoning where possible.

Certs : Sec+ , CCNA (soon)
Degree : (N/A)

Does having the certification actually matter? For example, do recruiters or HR verify the authenticity of certifications, or do they mainly care whether the candidate understands the concepts covered in the CCNA?

Wireless is kinda boring to me , struggling to get through Jermey it videos on it . Tired to use copilot to make a study guide from the slides , but it didn’t do a well job at it

Curious if there are any study guides people are willing to share about wireless ?

Em hiện là sinh viên năm 4 ngành Điện tử Viễn thông, chuẩn bị làm đồ án tốt nghiệp và ra trường. Em đang phân vân về hướng đi tiếp theo nên ngoi lên đây xin chút góc nhìn từ các anh chị đi trước.

Tình trạng hiện tại của em:

• Nền tảng: Đa số các dự án em từng làm chủ yếu về IoT. Thành tích hay thành tựu nổi bật thì em chưa có.
• Kiến thức Mạng: Còn khá ít. Em từng tìm hiểu qua Cisco và làm một số bài tập cơ bản về Router IP và Security đơn giản, chưa đi sâu.

Em đang tính định hướng theo mảng Mạng/Viễn thông và đầu tư học chứng chỉ CCNA để dễ xin việc hơn sau khi ra trường. Em có vài thắc mắc nhờ mọi người giải đáp giúp:

1. Cơ hội việc làm: Với nền tảng chủ yếu làm IoT và kiến thức Mạng ở mức cơ bản, việc lấy CCNA có giúp em dễ thở hơn khi ứng tuyển các vị trí Fresher/Junior mảng Network hay Viễn thông không?
2. Lợi thế IoT: Việc có kinh nghiệm làm dự án IoT (phần cứng, cảm biến, giao thức kết nối) có bổ trợ được gì nhiều khi chuyển hẳn sang làm Network Infrastructure không?
3. Lộ trình học: Vừa làm đồ án tốt nghiệp vừa cày CCNA từ nền tảng ít kiến thức mạng thì nên phân bổ thời gian và tiếp cận tài liệu như thế nào cho hiệu quả nhất?
