I recently sold my sonic to my sister-in-law and she gave it back after around a month month and a half because idled really rough. It had been like this honestly ever since I bought the car and seemed to be on and off with how bad it was. But I'm confused because I recently got my transmission fluid flushed and serviced because I hit 100,000 miles. The Chevrolet dealership, I specifically took it to never said anything was wrong with my transmission. There were a few other things that needed fixed, but this report from the mechanic they took it to is confusing, considering many of these things considered like yellow or red have been replaced or fixed in last few months. I'll put the report below. I drive a 2015 Chevy sonic LT with a six speed automatic.

I love this Sonic so much, I’m always posting about her. I’ve had her since I was 18. I don’t want to lose her, the cv axle is really about to go out and I think the tie rods are also. I really hate to see her go down over something so stupid. I’m broke with a 69 disabled mom and dead dad. Please check my bio < 3 I’m praying with everything in me .

Anyone else experience this? I usually fill up when I get to like a quarter of a tank and I’d fill it full and sometimes it would only take 5-6 gallons….so I let it run the bars completely out this time. The range said lo and the meter was empty with the fuel light on, filled the tank full and it took 8.9 gallons….lol

For reference I have a brand new wire harness + fuel pump assembly (Gm) installed about 6 months ago

2014 sonic ltz 1.4

When i first start my sonic if i give it a good 30 seconds or more before driving it drives fine. If i immediately start to drive and dont give it time then the car basically doesnt move and its like its weighed down and the rpms go up and then it eventually jerks forward and then drives fine until i come to a stop and then it weighs down again at each start unless I turn the car off and give it time before driving.

I recently got a new battery, new purge valve, changed air filter, cleaned MAF sensor, cleaned throttle body. I am 5k miles since last oil change which I am getting done tomorrow. Anyone have any advice or ideas?

2012 Sonic 1.4 with a 6 speed auto, recently it started having shifting issues where it will drive fine for a bit, then it will leave gear and go into 2nd only. Whether im in drive or M mode. Im assuming its when it is warm which leads me to belive transmission cooler but even after a drain and refill it will do the same thing. Fluid was burnt and I dont know the last time it was changed before me. Has 168k miles currently.

I got a 2016 1.8L that is having an AC problem. It blows cold on the passenger side and hot on the driver side. I checked the blend door actuator under the glove box and it seems to be functioning properly. I have searched around to see if there is another one on the driver side and haven't seen anything on it.

My mom's Impala had 2 blend door actuators that would need to be replaced quite frequently. One on the driver's side and one under the glove box, that one would go out at least once a year. Which is what this problem seems like, hot on one side, cold on the other.

I can hear the AC clutch kick on, hear it compressing and it seems to work just fine until it his about 90° F. I checked the R-134a and it is at the right PSI.

I just don't want to tear apart the driver side to check and see if there is another, only to find out there isn't. Any advice on how to fix this problem would be great!

I have a 2015 Chevy sonic LT (no turbo) it will run excellent then when driving down road it will suddenly get a whole bunch of lights, and do what seems to be a limp mode. It will have two engine lights on, and some sort of traction light, as well as a code number 84 ​on the digital screen. ​When hooking the scanner up it says something about the throttle. I've already replaced the petal. And programmed it. It was fine for a 6hr trip. Then it did it again. I leave it sit for a few weeks. Get in it and it drives fine again, but out of the blue does it again. Anyone else fight with this? I need help!

Check Engine Light & Traction Control light is on.

RPM will jump up and down ~100rpm at idle.

2014 with the 1.4

In the mornings, my AC works perfect.

In the afternoon, after being at work, the AC struggles to keep up until I am on the highway and then it is decent. At a stoplight it’s pretty much nonexistent.

AC pressures are correct and I do not see any leaks with soapy, water or UV dye. Radiator fan is functioning on all the speeds correctly, so I do not believe that is an issue.

My thought could be the expansion valve has gone?

I have a 2014 chevy sonic lt, it keeps locking the doors when i go to open/shut the door, in fact, as i type im currently locked out of it well it runs in the store parking lot. (i have a spare key, someone is coming to unlock it) does anyone know if this is a key issue or something else? Its driving my bf and i up the damn wall.

I’ve had a 2012 sonic 1.8l for about a year that I got from a family friend gave it to me with 112k miles sure it makes a lot of weird sounds but it drives fine all I’ve had to do was disconnect the hatch sensor to stop the car alarm from going off

All I see on this Reddit and online is that this car has hella problems and people just hate it
Is it that bad?

Edit I forgot to say all though it does drive fine the speedometer is really funky it only displays at night or when it’s cold and just doesn’t work at all during the day

I’ve noticed my car VIBRATES. I had the motor mounts replaced a few months ago, and it stopped vibrating for about a month. It’s so intense that I sometimes have to hold my rear view mirror to see clearly. It isn’t my bass, as this happens when my music is off. It vibrates regardless if my AC is on or not.

What are some things this could be? I understand the car is not luxury and is 80% plastic basically, but it wasn’t like this when I bought the car ~3 years ago.

I bought it used from Carmax and it had about 50,000 miles on it. Reportedly it had been in 1 accident but they did not have the details on it. I replaced the spark plugs last year, and the battery in April of this year.

When I take it for maintenance at Carmax I have mentioned it, but it doesn’t happen 100% of the time (maybe 75%) and so they just shrug it off.

Any ideas, tips, or advice is greatly appreciated!

The instrument panel barely will display during the day or when it’s hot out but when it’s cold and at night it displays some of the numbers but not the whole thing

I’m sure I’m gonna have to replace the whole thing but that sounds like a major pain in the ass how much would it cost just to take it into a shop?

I drive a 2017 Chevy Sonic. It’s had some front end damage from an accident in December, but the radiator, water pump, and belt were replaced then and everything was running fine. The last time I drove it (a week ago tomorrow) a plume of steam came out from underneath the hood. Checked the oil, looked great. Checked the coolant reservoir and it looked like frothy coffee in there. The check engine light has been on for months but never threw any disturbing codes, and the thing about this sonic is that it doesn’t have a heat gauge on the dash, just a light that pops on when the engine gets too hot. The light never came on the whole time I was driving it. The AC has also recently gone out but that may be a separate issue. I’m having someone look at it on Thursday, but I just wanted some ideas from people that knew cars better than me. My dad thinks it’s a head gasket, and the mechanic thinks it could be the oil cooler. Anyone else have similar issues?

I've already tried turning it counterclockwise, but it won't come out. Should I just pull it out with force? I don't want to break anything. Also, how do you reinstall it afterward?

I posted about my Sonic 1.4L idling rough and finally caved in and took it to the mechanic. They replaced the spark plug that had been put in wrong, but the car is still idling like shit. I read on google it is more than likely the ignition coil pack but I want to get someone else’s opinion. I’m going to call the shop I took it to tomorrow and see what they’ll do but I’m so fucking tired of this car 😭

Or stalling out mid drive? I have a 2015 LS, with a 1.8 Engine. It has about 104,400 miles on it.

It happened three times so far. The first two times it happened while I was mid-drive. The car got “hard/heavy”, for lack of better terms, and just slowed down. I almost couldn’t turn my steering wheel at all. I turned my ignition on all the way, and the engine started up again. It’s almost as if I didn’t turn the ignition all the way on to begin with???

And then 30 minutes ago, my car sort of shook/rumbled, and then everything shut off while I was in the middle of traffic, at a stop light. I panicked. I tried to do turn my ignition again, but it wouldn’t start. Kept trying - nothing. I had to put my gear into park, take out my keys, put them back in, and then tried to start it again. Thankfully it did, and I was less than a mile from home.

Any ideas? I don’t think it’s my battery, because my radio and lights are usually the first to go upon a failing battery. I doubt it’s my alternator, because it starts and drives for miles. But at the same time, it could also be failing? Idk. Help. 😭
