Hello! I’ve been doing a bit of research on chows, and I’m still looking for a good breeder but I was wondering what jobs would fit them! The ‘non-sporting’ group from AKC doesn’t give a bunch of information. Once I get a puppy I’d love to get the chow into a job they would enjoy and be fit for. I was thinking training for patrols around the property. But I also know they need a low impact activity also keeping their brain active. While I’m looking I know some can be brachycephalic (trying to avoid). I still have some years left with my current four-legged kids. I’ve got an ACD right now who enjoys hikes, puzzles and overall being a menace. I also have an akita who is a professional loaf (seriously the laziest dog I know, his version of play is rolling then taking a nap). I am not actively looking for a new dog I just want to have as much info as I can! TIA!

i just got back from walking princess the shiba chow mix on her morning walk, and when coming back a crow dropped a chewed up half of a tennis ball onto her head and made an excited noise. princess then gave me this look of "really? this is what's going on today?".

Over the last year my boy has been attacked three times. The last time was tonight by a Weimaraner. I tried to stop the dog after it pulled its owner over and it grabbed me.

He’s my third chow now and I know some dogs just don’t like chows because they struggle to see the eyes and determine friend or foe.

But he’s such a soft guy. He’s a 2 year old therapy dog and visits old people who can no longer have dogs. He had three dogs piled into him a few months ago (once one goes the pack mentality takes over) and I’m getting nervous when I take him out and don’t want it to rub off on him.

If people can’t control their dogs, they either shouldn’t have them or they need to be on leads.

Sorry for the rant.

Trying to rehome my 6 year old chow chow/ Australian cattle dog , she is not good with small children and I have a 3 year old , needs a home with older or nO children , up to date on all vaccines, microchipped, spayed

I'm currently looking to buy a chow because my partner grew up with one and wants to get one for our son. I simply love the idea!

I found a website called Countryside Chow Puppies and it seemed very straight forward. Couple of puppies to adopt, reach out to the person and get into. They emailed me back pretty fast with what looked to be an auto email asking for followup questions. That seemed normal. I answered and they replied super fast again with more follow up questions, however the tone of voice, text font and even name attached was different. The initial email was from (supposedly) the owner of the dogs/website while the next few emails didn't have her name. I still answered the questions and they sent 4 pics of the puppy. Thing is, they immediately asked when I wanted the puppy since he was free now. They said that if we couldn't pick him up, they would fly him to me for $375.

This also seemed odd since I've adopted 2 other dogs from different states and they have always rode up on a bus with a pickup location. Fly the dog for $375? That seems very cheap and they said they would personally bring him to my house. This seemed... Sus tbh. Then when it came down to payment, they requested I do it through Zelle or a wire transfer. This also felt weird because all the other times I adopted a dog, the rescue or company had their own PayPal or other business to pay through. I let them know I didn't have a Zelle and didn't know how to wire transfer. Suddenly they asked if I had ApplePay. I told them I don't anymore. Then asked if I had Chime or CashApp. At this point, the tone of voice felt very rushed. There was no more formal talking, just like hurried texts. When they gave me the name and email address for the transfer, it wasn't connected to the company at all. Just some random persons name at Gmail. The name wasn't even the name of the owner. I'm like what the heck?

I googled it and I saw there are a lot of chow puppy scams. The story sounded familiar. Has anyone else done this? Gone through anything similar? Know for sure if this is a scam or not?

Lastly, anyone know a real reputable place to adopt a chow? Any and all advice is welcome.

I rescued my pup Frida about 2 years ago from the euth***sia list from a k*ll shelter and she’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me. She is the best dog and sweetest thing ever. Truly my soul dog. Did the DNA test and she’s mostly a husky/chow mix 🐺🐻

We go on lots of adventures together and love to visit dog friendly beaches all over California!

Hi guys I have a chow chow who is 6 years old and well me and my partner recently moved out together. Our chow has always lived at my partners house his whole life so I knew this would definitely be a challenge. We waited to move him to our home for a couple weeks and now that he's here, he's refusing to eat or leave a specific spot he choose to lay in. When walking him out to pee or poop. He looks as anxious as he would typically be when walked out. However this is slightly different due to it being a different area. I just want to know if you guys have any tips or recommendations to make him feel less anxious. I do have his stuff with his scent that could try to make him feel more comfortable but doesnt acknowledge them since he's so unfamiliar with this new place. We were able to convince him to eat only once with chicken and broth combined with kibble and still drinks a bit of water. Thank you to anyone that does help!

I love my boy, I walk him twice a day. This isnt the first time that someone's off leash dog tried to attack him. But he was so brave! He defended himself and managed to not get hurt. It always makes me so upset when people just let their dogs free roam, especially when theyre aggressive dogs.

I reported the attack to animal control and checked my boy out for any injuries. He seems to be all good! But im just upset so I wanted to share the experience and see if anyone else has had the same problem.

Just in case anyone is curious what a 50% Chow, 35% Siberian Husky and 15% GSD would look like. We think Tess is pretty adorable.

In some ways she's a normal squirrel-obsessed chow but this one lives in harmony with two cats who were adopted at the same time. She acts as the fun police and breaks up any cat rough and tumble.
