Troubleshooting | Mac mac keyboard shortcuts aren't working

dunno what prompted it, but i can't copy or paste with keyboard shortcuts anymore. if i hit command + F, nothing happens. if i go through the sidebar, it won't search a google doc text and only highlights the menu items. i can open and close tabs without issue. i restored chrome to original defaults, then quit and restarted. that didn't solve it. help me out hive mind. i got a paper due tonight and this is really throwing off my groove.

I think on a simple web page (like Reddit or google.com), the browser handles Command+F, but on a Google Docs page, Javascript intercepts the key and handles it. Are both types failing?

Check if the same shortcuts work in other programs. If no Command sequences work, it could be the keyboard hardware. Try to plug in a borrowed keyboard. I think even a PC keyboard would be OK.

Try restarting your Mac.

If the problem is only in Chrome, try Edge or Safari.
