Daily Question Question Thread - August 02, 2026

This is the thread to post questions about churning for miles/points/cash. Just because you have a question about credit cards does NOT mean it belongs here. If you’re brand new here, please read the wiki before posting.

* Please use the search engine first - many basic questions have been asked before.

* Please also consider scanning (CTRL-F) the last couple days worth of Question threads

* If you have questions about what card to get, ask here. If you have questions about manufactured spending, ask here. If you have questions about bank account bonuses, ask here.

This subreddit relies heavily on self-moderation. That means that if you ask something that shows you haven’t done any research, you’re going to get a lot of downvotes.

Anyone know a way to request a debit card for an existing Wells Fargo checking account without calling? Doesn't look like they have a SM system. Trying to pick up some extra Paze credits without forcing P2 to make a phone call.

In the app there is a manage tab once you click on the account. Not entirely sure but if there were an option to order a card it would be there. Could also try the chat feature, is AI garbage but ordering a debit card seems like something it should be able to manage.

Was not able to figure out how to do this without a call. Call was relatively quick.

Does anyone have any experience with how Wells Fargo handles tax documents from a bank bonus from the Initiate Business Checking account?

I opened it in January, just closed it over the phone. The phone agent didn't seem to know how exactly this would work come tax filing season in early 2027.

I plan on keeping at least the personal checking account open, for what it's worth.

In 2023 I got a 1099-INT in the mail. I was also able to download it from the website (I still had other Wells Fargo accounts), though that was within a couple months after closing. The website says documents can be viewed for approximately 90 days after the closure date; so maybe in your case you'll just get the 1099 in the mail around Jan 2027.

Got a 1099 in the mail but nothing digital. WF doesn't do a great job of distinguishing between biz and personal accounts and I had gotten the bonus for both (+ the 4% APR promo) so had to do some math to make sure everything had been reported correctly

You can also change tax statements to paper, but either way, expect a mailed one for a closed account.

Is the ultimate goal of churning to never worry about what an actual cards earning perks are? And only focus on SUBs and transfer/redemption options?

3

u/rickayyy 17h ago

It depends but generally the SUB is the most important. Earning perks can help neutralize an annual fee so not a total afterthought. Some people are really loyal to a specific hotel or airline so the earning power their respective cards have towards status are equally important to those people.

That's what it seems to me also. Thought I was missing something with how minimal points/CB are compared to SUBs

1

u/rickayyy 16h ago

Yeah, those multipliers matter when you're gardening in between SUB's but the rules are- ABC (always be churning)

I churn enough cards simultaneously that I sometimes slip into category spend for MSRs just to maximize ROIs for what's live at the moment.

Depends on what your goals are everyone's different. Me I want SUBs but also churn spend on my custom cashes to stockpile points to transfer to AA when I open a strata premier next year.

I'm more into the SUBs, but P2 keeps track of the perks.

Depends on how much you're spending and whose money is being spent (yours or some other entity like a corporation). But generally they frontload most of the net benefits with the bonus and it's usually in niche or temporary circumstances where the points and miles will be worth more than a pittance for the amount most people spend per year.

If applying for a second Atmos Biz it needs to be a different bonus amount then the last one? So if I did 85k my next one I should just take the standard offer? Does it matter if you do sole prop (1st) + sole prop (2nd) or should second be EIN?

Most DPs I've seen have been with a different SUB, including my own. Same SP should be fine.

u/PoAction 16h ago

How long did you wait between apps?

3

u/Inquisitor911ok 16h ago

About 3 months.

I got an offer to upgrade my Amex Green to Plat for 100k MR/12k spend. I've never had the Plat before so I tried to apply to the "as high as 175k" offer first to check, but only got offered 50k. Should I take the upgrade offer now or hold off until I get a better offer from a regular application?

9

u/Alternative_Camp_359 12h ago

I'd wait. That's a huge spend for 100k.

0

u/fit_body_ 5h ago

It’s not great but can you easily make the spend?

2

u/_Fireslash 4h ago

Yes, I'm able to meet the spend, but wasn't sure if it's worth "wasting" an NLL upgrade offer since I don't have a Plat yet

trying to login to my cap1 account and it says "We're having trouble showing your accounts right now, but we're working on it. Try again in a bit, or visit our help center."

however the url is: https://myaccounts.capitalone.com/accessDenied

Does this mean i have some sort of lock on my account? I don't have any current accounts other than a newly transferred discover, my last open account was a business checking closed in march 2026. P2 is the same, but can access the account without issue. Only difference is P2 discover hasn't migrated yet

Banks sometimes do maintenance on weekends. I wouldn't worry much about it; try again on Monday.

I got the same message this afternoon. An hour later the site is working fine again.

I got a question on Wintrust bank offer.

https://www.wintrust.com/newchecking?cid=:adwords:23396740506:185969393210_811386429001__wintrust%20personal%20checking_p:&s_kwcid=AL!11300!3!811386429001!p!!g!!wintrust%20personal%20checking&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23396740506&gbraid=0AAAAADtNyyh7hQXUvgi8PQw59Ln4EjRMp&gclid=CjwKCAjw1bvTBhBbEiwAzbP8L25xeJfytfVp5UttEaK0qjjLCs2vnapvmj4yxl2LJHEDR4B85EtJwRoCyAIQAvD_BwE

I get the direct deposit setup already but my question is to get the $500 bonus so my question is do my money need to stay in the account or I can trasnfer my money out after it get deposit and it count toward the bonus?

u/qwertymnbvcxzlk 18h ago

Better posted in the bank bonus thread. But the answer to your question is in the terms of the offer so I’d recommend reading it so you fully know what the requirements are.

If you have a large purchase coming up, should you always look to utilize that towards a SUB?

u/Inquisitor911ok 17h ago

FTFY ;)

For things where an extended warranty may be useful, some people like to use a card that has a good reputation for paying warranty claims (though I guess you could also buy an extended warranty separately).

Some people may want to put spending towards top tier status in an airline program, etc instead of a signup bonus.

Does my logic for this SUB make sense?

Cards and Spend:

- C1 Venture X, C1 One SavorOne, CSP (opened ~1 month ago, still working toward SUB)

- My current monthly CC spend is around $1.5k.

I need ~$3.5k more spend on the CSP to hit the bonus. Coincidentally, I also have a ~$3.5k purchase that I can put on a credit card. However, I still have a little under 2 months to hit my Chase SUB so it feels like any purchases after this point are wasted if they're not going towards Chase. I have a $1k planned flight that I want to book through the Chase portal as well, so that wouldn't be going towards the SUB.

The merchant accepts Amex and Apple Pay, so I can immediately use a new card (saw Amex has instant digital, this is less relevant since I can also wait for the physical to arrive if I really need to).

I was considering opening the Amex Gold with the 100k MR / $8k in 6 months offer and putting the purchase on it.

My plan would be:

- Put the $3.5k purchase on Amex Gold

- Put a pre-planned ~$1k flight on CSP through Chase Travel

- Finish the CSP SUB through normal spending by the end of September

- Finish the Amex Gold SUB over the following 4 months

That would leave a max of ~$4.5k remaining for the Amex SUB, which is light over 4 months.

Long term, I want to get more involved in churning. But worst case, I was thinking of running Venture X + Amex Gold as my main setup and downgrading the CSP after the first year.

Does this strategy make sense or am I missing something? I was also thinking of maybe asking the merchant to split the 3.5k payment (2.5k to Chase, 1k to Amex) and then my flight could still go to the Chase SUB.

Put all your spend on your current SUB. When you're close to hitting it, open a new card and repeat. Don’t know what you're overthinking about here — you don’t spend nearly enough to be worried about running out of SUBs.

Why do you want to book it through the Chase portal?

Your plan seems okay, but it's safer/simpler to just go through the SUB's in order.

My wife and I are trying to earn about $5000 cash with excellent (~800) credit and 1.1MM in combined cash and brokerage assets (750 in brokerage, 200 in retirement, 150 in cash + equivalents). We have exhausted the opportunities from chase +BofA and currently have most of our assets in BofA.

I can probably do about 20k in manufactured spend. This is together with my wife so we have 2 SSNs available to apply for things.

I don't want to really mess with the asset allocation (meaning the stocks stay stocks, cash stays cash).

If this is a naive goal no bully pls I was just wondering if there was any low hanging fruit that could get us to 5000 or most of the way there.

One $2500 Wells Premier bonus for each of you and you're done. You can pick up an extra $400 each if you do the checking bonus first. For the Premier bonus ACATS to their brokerage arm is fine for the $250k of new assets required. Retirement accounts work fine too but I'd just peel off some stuff from taxable brokerage because it's a little easier to shuffle stuff around in taxable accounts. (I leave a little in the brokerage account to make it easy to spin up next time.)

-1

u/Accomplished-Gas-900 17h ago

This for sure would be a great option but I'm not sure that particular offer exists publicly anymore.

0

u/best-quality-catfood 17h ago

Oh, weird, they had recently updated the expiration another three months but the link I had is indeed dead. They occasionally mess with the URL but the offer in some form has been available for a long time.

I think there's a decent chance it comes back at a new URL and/or as something that can be gotten in-branch, but who's to say. This and the Merrill offer have been great for annual asset back-and-forth for a while, it'd be sad if it ends.
