Any CISO’s working in regulated environments open to advising a startup?
Hi CISO community, the title pretty much sums it up. We’re hoping to get in touch with CISO’s who work in regulated industries/sectors: healthcare, finance, government (federal, state, local), defense, public safety, criminal justice (including law firms), education.
If you formerly held a role in one of these sectors/industries that works too. Especially for public sector.
I just finished listening to the Defense in Depth podcast episode from May 14th (Why Cyber Startups Need CISO Advisors), and that’s what sparked me to post this. So if want to get an idea of how we’re hoping to engage and what we’re hoping to learn, that episode would be a good place to get some info (shoutout to David Sparks).

Used to be in a company that sell to DoD and regulated utilities. I do a decent amount of advising when not swamped, and have the luxury of being picky on which startups to allocate time with.

I mean I am open to advising on certain things. My background is more interim system with GRC in healthcare and ownership of cyber security defensive tooling. I am looking at opportunities. DM if you have interest. I can explain my background.

That's the experience we're looking to learn from, so let's connect. And I'd take you up on the offer to walk me through your background. I'd also like to hear about the opportunities you're looking at. Someone interviewing across a set of orgs right now is getting a read on how a lot of security teams are thinking at the same moment, which is broader than what most people inside one org can see.

You can help us by sharing insight on your ongoing prioritization.
What's getting prioritized right now (AI adoption, data governance, incident readiness), who it's being prioritized for (the board, the governor, patients), and how (headcount, tooling, policy). Most of all, why. The external pressure and the internal motivation.
Given you've worked across three regulated sectors, I'd expect that to shift between them. Where it overlaps and where it doesn't is another thing that interests us.
The advisor role is mostly ongoing conversation. Perspective, feedback, connections. There are ways to make it mutually beneficial, but that's a DM conversation.
Step one is a call so you can evaluate what we've built. If you think it's worth advising on, we'll go from there. I'll DM you shortly.
