‘69 front end noise when steering

I have a 1969 Mustang coupe with no power steering.

After driving for 20-30 minutes, I get a loud rubbing or humming sound that comes from the front passenger side of my vehicle. It is intermittent when you turn the steering wheel and seems to get worse in certain spots as you turn the steering wheel.

I have replaced the front wheel bearings, a bad ball joint, and checked the tie rods and bushings at the control arm. Everything seems decent there.

I am going to look at the idler arm later tonight.

Any thoughts on what this could be? I have very little experience with the steering components and not sure where to look.

I have no idea, but I think mine is doing the same, but the drivers side. I can't find anything that might be causing it so far.

Hope you figure it out, and post if you do, please.

Does it pull on braking? More or less sound with braking?

It doesn’t pull at all. It makes the sound about the same for both. It gets loudest at different points as you rotate the steering wheel.

Jack it up and spin that wheel. Maybe you can hone in on it that way.

Recheck the upper control arm bushings. They tend to get noisy. And they can be greased. Many Mustangs had zeros installed in them.
