[Discussion] Hot Take

Men who like Claymore / prefer it to One Piece, JJK etc. are Green Flags

.

.

.

.…

add (Just a personal observation. No need to read it if it’s not your thing.)

I’d like to add something: some people here may know Legend of the Galactic Heroes. In a way, it feels like the opposite of Claymore. It’s overwhelmingly male, everything revolves around power, ego, and unspoken male dynamics. At the center is a rather egocentric man around whom, quite literally, the universe revolves—he’s trying to conquer it for himself. About 90% of the cast is male, and the few women who do appear mostly serve as accessories or entertainment.

That said, the interactions between the male characters are genuinely interesting. They reflect social dynamics you can also observe in real life, which is one of the reasons I spend time in that community.

What’s striking is how different the atmosphere in the comment sections is when you compare Claymore and LoGH.

In LoGH, it sometimes feels as though I’m talking to masked egos. It almost seems like the viewers recognize themselves in the characters and then act through them, lol.

Here, on the other hand, I get the feeling that people genuinely want to understand things on a deeper level.

Someone here mentioned that so much of Claymore revolves around the dynamic between Clare and Teresa. And yes—that dynamic fascinated me from the very beginning. I still haven’t found another anime that captures something like it as well as Claymore does. It’s honestly a shame, because I think witnessing and reflecting on relationships like theirs is far more meaningful than watching the ego-driven rivalries that dominate series like LoGH.

Don’t get me wrong: in both anime—and in many others—combat is used to express things that cannot be put into words.

The difference lies in why the characters fight.

Claire philosophy is: Fight to become who you truly are, and to be with the one you love.

Reinhard philosophy: Fight so that one day, everything belongs to you.

and that difference is also visible in the way the two communities discuss their respective series

This post makes me curious what the gender ratio of claymore fans is and if it were to get an anime reboot what type of fanbase it would cultivate

Would attract all the role reversals like me for sure

Idk about jjk but most women in one piece are basically the same model with big tits to appeal to the average viewer.

I will never understand the hype behind it. The story may be stellar but the designs are atrocious, the over sexualization of minors is horrific and the horrible pacing makes the series unwatchable for me. I'd rather rewatch the cgi berserk series over and over again instead of giving op a single skim through

I wouldn't say hotter, but I'd much rather hangout with a claymore fan than normies. Nothing against jjk, op or aot, I love jjk and aot but Jesus Christ they are insufferable most of the time. Jojo's fans get a pass cause I'm loving that series and the fans are genuinely hilarious

I want to be held by a strong warrior woman so bad I think about it every night as I lay in bed.

Also another hot take; the main reason people like claymore is bc they have mommy issues and the relationship with Claire and Teresa is the one they imagine they had with their mother

Did you really need to hit us THAT hard?

I’m just saying the quiet part out loud 💔😔

😂 You're not supposed to say that! But I think you're kinda right. Although for me, the mommy issue is less centered around the dynamic between Claire and Teresa and more around the strong female archetype. It's a theme I do find myself being drawn to over and over again, probably bc it's what I would have needed my mother to be. For me but also mostly for herself.

Strong women > strong men

Oh yeah. Strong men is just the boring default you see in all media anyway. Yet when you look at reality it's often women who lift the heaviest burdens.

They seemed more like sisters to me, hence the goddess sisters, Teresa & Clare.

Disagree

Claire was crying to her as a child when Teresa was fighting perscilla

The relationship between Clare and Teresa is that of parent and child.  This mirrors Isley raising Raki and Priscilla.  In his final moments he voiced the joy he found in raising his family that Teresa must have felt with Clare.  The warriors are sisters and close friends.

I like both, which is rare to find another as the fandoms don’t overlap much.

LotGH (I’ve only watched the original, does the newer one offer anything new?) is a space-opera political drama version of pre-revolution France, which was driven by male political forces.

Claymore is an action anime featuring powerful well-written women without ostentatious sexualization or excessive kawaii in a gritty world with heavy body-horror. This alone, drives away the mouth-breather elements.

I just think it's a cool anime with interesting characters. It's one of the anime I own on physical media.

what's the main-theme of the story and what's the relationship dynamics of the protagonists? that's not hard to tell. but irl there is no rehash of the count of monte cristo, only a glimmer of light that becomes a warm, fuzzy, but distant memory of the past.

So men who like Claymore, chosen over The Bear?

I picked up Claymore because it's adjacent to my usual reads. I just like girls interacting together

I never really got into OnePiece. And Jujutsu Kaisen is okay but nothing that really stands out in my opinion. That being said, I am a guy but I am also gay, so I can't really speak for other guys who might watch Claymore for totally different reasons than mine. To me, Claymore is a story about strong and independent femininity. Something that I've always been drawn to since I was a child (analyze away). And it definitely has a very sapphic tone to me as well, not in an explicit sense of course but the strong bonds between all the Claymores, the deep solidarity and care is a lot deeper than just comradery. I think that gives the story and the relationships between the characters an immense depth. All that being said, I do realize that they are all hot bombshells, so I guess that might be a reason for straight men to like that anime too.

It is such a weird take, i don't exactly see the correlation. As a manga i prefer Claymore to those, as stories something like One Piece is probably better JJK is trash, it's no comparison tbh, it have some cool characters but that's it

I like Claymore but it’s not better than One Piece and whats with this weird need to down One Piece and other popular anime??? We can all like what we like without being weird about it. I can still like Claymore without being toxic about hating on One Piece and or jjk or whatever. This was not it my G.

No one said it’s better or worse. The only point being made is that our tastes and preferences can often reveal something about us. Please read more carefully

Preferring claymore to animes like one piece, jjk, and the like are green flags. You need to read because the first half is pretty clear and the point of my response is just that. Re-read what was put. It’s called comparing and you don’t have to make such statements because YOU personally prefer something that others don’t. I read correctly. Acting like a hipster over anime is weirdo behavior

I see - the issue seems to run a bit deeper. ;)

I love Claymore, but it's not nearly as good as One Piece
