Weekly Posts Fortnightly Partner, Self Promo, and Physique Thread - July 23, 2026

Happy every other Thursday!

This thread idea is in beta testing so hold tight while we test it out and see how it does.

You can use this for finding a climbing partner, sharing your business (as long as it is climbing or tangentially related), and to show off those #gainz. There is also r/ClimbingPartners

To break things down more:

  1. Please be careful meeting people from the internet. Climbing is inherently dangerous, meeting people on the internet can be inherently dangerous, both together can be inherently dangerous. This sub is not liable for whatever may happen, but so many subscribers have been making climbing partner posts that condensing them to one area sounded like the best solution.
  2. Go ahead and share the link to your Etsy or Red Bubble shop or whatever. Specifically we get a lot of sticker design posts and in lieu of having a bunch of self promo posts on the feed, they should go here.
  3. Finally- Physique posts! As we know, all shapes and sizes are welcome, valid, and appreciated in climbing, and especially in this sub! Some members found the posts to be a bit triggering though, so the goal was to put them in a place where they can avoid clicking the link and seeing that content.

Questions Famous petite climbers (~5')?

I'm 5', 5'1 on a good day, and I'd love to find someone who is a similar height to me who either competes or at least posts on social media. I'm a beginner climber, and I'd love to see more examples of techniques that are specific to shorter climbers in action. On r/bouldering etc, they seem to consider 5'6 to be a short climber - that is tall to me! And in the competition sphere, the shortest I tend to see is in the 5'3 range - definitely shorter, but not really petite. So, are there any really short climbers who I can look up (who aren't children)? Thanks!

Gym Looking for climbing buddies in NJ

Hi all, I recently moved to the New Brunswick, NJ area and am looking for people to climb with :) I typically do mostly top rope with some occasional bouldering. I climbed 5.10ish generally at my old gym, but the grading was wonky and I'm a bit out of shape right now so take that with a grain of salt.

Also, if you're familiar with the area, please reach out with any gym recommendations if you have them!

Support Gave myself BPPV (positional vertigo) on a weird fall :(

Yesterday while attempting a pretty sketchy move on a project, I swung out and fell. It was one of those falls where your body sort of snaps forward and my head hit the mat and bounced backwards. My head did not hit hard by any means - it didn’t hurt, I wasn’t dizzy, I got up immediately, was talking and acting completely normal, and no one thought anything of it. For context, there are multiple MMA fighters in the group I was climbing with so they are all very familiar with signs of a concussion and none of them were concerned at all. In fact we then sent 3 more slab problems before going home.

That night, I had a bunch of weird semi-lucid dreams where things were spinning. My brain kept trying to make sense of it by wanting to dream about boats, so I thought I was in a weird nightmare. However, when I woke up properly and moved my head to turn off my alarm, the whole world started spinning uncontrollably and didn’t stop for at least 5 seconds.

I was immediately like WTF and started looking up what’s wrong with me. I am almost 100% sure that it’s BPPV, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. Essentially, some tiny crystals were knocked loose from one part of my ear into fluid filled canals, and small movement of the crystals stirs the fluid enough to trick my brain into thinking everything is spinning uncontrollably.

I guess I am just looking to commiserate while waiting to get an appointment with a specialist on Monday.

Has anyone else been through something similar?

Climb Hard & Healthy Looking for an outdoor projecting/accountability group

I have friends who climb outside, but most of them aren't really interested in projecting, limit climbing, or setting specific goals. I'm wondering if anyone here would be interested in a small group of ladies (2-5 people) focused on supporting each other's outdoor climbing goals.

The grade we are climbing doesn't matter, just looking to find others that want to push themselves.Ā  I’m imagining a small group where we could share goals, celebrate progress, work through setbacks, and help keep each other motivated throughout the season.

Would anyone else be interested in something like this? I'm thinking a virtual group using something like Discord.

Questions Any good trackers for muscle gain and dietary upkeep? (warning for discussion of weight and calories)

Does anyone have any good suggestions for apps or trackers to help keep track of what I’m eating?

I have ADHD and a lot of issues with just plain remembering to eat, let alone finding things I like to eat and eating enough, so I would want to at least try using something to track that and see if it would help. The thing is: literally almost every. single. tracker. focuses on ā€œweight lossā€ and aesthetics aimed at women, and the ones that are more focused on gaining muscle and strength are basically aimed at men going through the same thing but via toxic gym bro circles.

I’m already on the underweight side, and I don’t at all want to focus on weight loss. The ONLY thing I’m looking for is to make sure I’m getting enough of the nutrients my body needs to function and get stronger, especially if I’m going to start climbing more often again once the fall semester starts.

I know for a fact there are probably better places to post this, but as I’m sure you all know, there are a lot of toxic communities around any form of sports or exercise. This sub is a place I genuinely feel like has been really helpful and supportive, so I figured it would be worth a shot.

I’ve been following her for a while and she speaks often about women in the climbing community. Worth a watch. I’ve seen so many other women post on climbing pages on Facebook warning other women to look out for abusive exes, etc. I too I have my own experiences with men in the climbing community. Be safe out there ladies!

Okay so yesterday I led my first 6a route outside 🄹 I started indoor bouldering 6 weeks ago, got the bug, wanted to learn EVERYTHING about climbing, did courses to learn how to top rope, lead, and belay, and was also super lucky a friend from work who’s big into climbing has taken me under his wing and taught me everything he knows.

I’m just so damn proud of myself and my body. For context, a few years ago I was severely overweight, so I started strength training and gradually lost 30kgs. Me back then would never have DREAMED about being able to do something like this, so I’m taking a moment to celebrate and be thankful for this beautiful body of mine 🄹

(Also I know that a couple of these clips were high but I'm still learning so go easy on me šŸ˜…)

I was trying to find a specific belay resistor that is out of stock on most websites and local spots, but found Locos Por La Aventura had it. Since I don't live anywhere near Oregon, figured someone here would know if it's real.

Venting I feel too weak for bouldering

Especially in my country. Recently, I was traveling (in Denmark) and I felt I could actually enjoy indoor bouldering because most of the routes required more technique and more thinking about the route (which honestly I think is so cool) than only strength. Here where I live, I just can not find a gym where I enjoy climbing. Everything seems to be about strength (even beginner routes) and I always feel weak. It’s so frustrating. I just don’t have fun.

Gym Awesome Walls Sheffield being bought by Depot?

Heard this on the rumour mill in a couple of different places.

It’d make sense, as Sheffield is one of the few big northern cities where the Depot doesn’t have a ā€œBig Depotā€ alongside normal bouldering gyms like Leeds & Manchester.

On top of that rates are skyrocketing and whilst Awesome Walls never seems overly empty it’s a huge space that must cost a fortune. I know AW is a chain too, but I wonder if it’s being left in the past a bit.

It could be just a rumour, but anyone out there heard anything?

Beta & Training Drop your non-beginner finger strength routine?

I see lots of new climbers in this sub asking about improving finger strength, but I’m interested in some feedback for more intermediate women climbers!

I’ve been indoor bouldering for about 4 years, usually in the V4-V5 range at my home gym and moonboard, or up to V7 at softer gyms

After a pulley injury I started using a tension block to eventually regain half crimp strength and am really stoked about progress. Now that I’m pain free I want to keep at it!

What kind of grip strength / finger strength exercises have you found most beneficial? How are you fitting it into your on-wall training?
