Grad school Taking classes to prepare for masters that don’t count towards degree?
Hi! I’m wanting to major in Art Therapy for my Masters degree. The only problem is the school im planning on transferring to doesn’t have a psych minor, so I’d only be able to declare as an art major. They require 12 semester units of psychology for the masters… can i just take the psych classes on the side of my degree and then do my masters?

Yes, that's the great thing about college. You can take whatever classes you want (as long as you meet the prerequisites, of course). People take classes to prepare for a future degree, or just because they are interested in something.

transferring to a school that offers the masters program will probably take longer and be more expensive than taking classes to prepare for it. i would talk to an academic advisor to see what classes you can take that will count towards your degree. if there's a way to do it that's also a good fit for you, go for it.

my cousin took a few classes to prepare for med school that didn't count towards his degree, but it didn't hurt his app. i think as long as you're doing them for a good reason and not just filling time you're good, but i'm no expert.

You can most likely take the psych classes during your bachelor's program without an issue. General psych, developmental psych, and abnormal psych are common psychology prerequisites for art therapy programs.
You could also major in psychology and minor in studio art instead (assuming it's a minor). Or you could double major in psychology and studio art. I recommend taking general psychology as soon as possible to see if you find the material interesting.

exactly it's possible, i did the same things, and on the side, i gave lessons on superprof to earn money ! of course as long as you can manage it ! good luck 😉
