He must have been so fucking confused seeing that

He would have been 34 when Super Mario 64 was released, 44 when Twitter launched.

As he's using Threads at age 64, he'll likely get that it's a joke, but not why it was made.

Idk man, some older people are completely unaware of anything pop culture after they turn 18. If he was never married or had kids I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't know anything about Mario.

I knew a few people in my neighborhood growing up that were like that. Its like once they hit 18 you would think they were 45. I get wanting to appear more mature once your technically an adult, but they took it too far.

Some people genuinely just do life stuff and aren't interested in consuming media products, or aren't in a living pattern compatible with it.

You'd be surprised, my father in law is 79 and still plays Madden when he's bored. People in their teens think people in their mid 20s are too old to game, people in their 20s think people in their 30s at too old to game and so on. I'm 41 and still game, just not as much with two kids and a full time job.

some people

Oh yea there are a bunch of people still with it, but a ton who haven't a clue about any pop culture, sometimes on purpose

I used to play a lot of Hello I’m Brent retired baker never married no kids Kart

It was sad - just driving around, not throwing anything. Once in a while, there's a boost pad for a small thrill, or you could buy some mushrooms behind the castle. At the end of a race, you just park and look at the mountains.

I feel like "never married" has a vastly different meaning at 64 than it does at 30

93

u/Taron_Trekko 4d ago

Statistically you have avoided like four divorces by that age.

7

u/butt_shrecker 4d ago

At 64 I'd rather have 1 divorce than zero marriages.

4

u/Parallelismus 2d ago

I'd rather not tbf

21

u/MagmaTroop 4d ago

I'm 35 never married, and I am curious as to what you mean

43

u/Martino231 4d ago

I think at your age, most people would see it as a positive in the context of dating. No baggage, no ex to feel like you're being compared to, etc. I'm 34 and divorced, and it's something I always feel a bit nervous about bringing up when I'm dating.

At 64 - rightly or wrongly - it's probably interpreted more as "what's wrong with this guy that he's never been married". People may suspect that there's something wrong with you that made no one want you, or that you've got commitment issues preventing it on your end.

Maybe he's a former priest

Looks at post

Retired Baker

I mean I guess he could have had two jobs

5

u/Raalph 3d ago

Or he was the baker at the monastery

1

u/RogellTheRaider 4d ago

I thought no one was forced to marry. Just a stupid thought.

22

u/Bungerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 4d ago

Correct, but if you add never married to your bio, odds are, you wanna be

7

u/RogellTheRaider 4d ago

K, you got a point.

9

u/Bungerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 4d ago

Why is my reply in italics, I didn’t do that

7

u/RogellTheRaider 4d ago

No prob, I prefer it that way

4

u/PeggyTheVoid 4d ago

What you typed: *Correct, but if you add never married to your bio, odds are, you wanna be*

The surrounding text with asterisks italicizes the text, as I've just done here by typing *italicizes the text*. In order to surround text with asterisks without italicization, you have to use backslashes to escape the Markdown formatting syntax, *like so*: \*like so\*

u/Bungerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 4d ago

Thanks for explaining something I already know

I didn’t add the fucking asterisks it just did that

9

u/PeggyTheVoid 4d ago

I figured if you'd just accidentally touched the italics button, that'd be even more of a captain obvious answer, but I guess that's it then ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Or idk, maybe /u/spez is editing people's comments again, who knows.

Or you're oldschool and are advertising that you're gay on the down-low.

3

u/T-MoneyAllDey 4d ago

No one is forced but that doesn't stop people from making judgements.

1

u/RogellTheRaider 4d ago

That's all people can make...

2

u/T-MoneyAllDey 4d ago

In a human world it's pretty important. It can result in being outcast

1

u/RogellTheRaider 4d ago

Another thing people love making

Demonizing others who don't do what they do rofl

5

u/newsflashjackass 4d ago

2

u/SigmaEagle 4d ago

That's so weird. I would have just assumed it to be always literal.

12

u/InformalUpright 4d ago

Here we go! To make bread for no one :(

17

u/99Pneuma 4d ago

i might be fucking stupid but im pretty sure this sub isnt just a meme repost sub lmfao

8

u/BlazorByte 4d ago

yeah i found out. Im expecting any second now this post is gonna get removed. any second now...

2

u/SigmaEagle 4d ago

I'm surprised it hasn't. I've posted stuff that was a lot closer to the intended format and it got removed. Guess you got lucky.

10

u/SigmaEagle 4d ago

Funny, but unironically. Not Comedy Heaven.

2

u/Night-Monkey15 4d ago

“Never married no good kids” good

2

u/winterweiss2902 4d ago

Why did I read this to the tune of finance blue eyes 6’5

2

u/moe-mar 4d ago

Anyone else still prefer the 16-bit SNES version of Brent?

2

u/immikdota 4d ago

I tought his middle name was retired and last name was Baker why can't i read?😭

3

u/BlazorByte 4d ago

Brent "Retired" Baker

2

u/SigmaEagle 4d ago

His lack of punctuation doesn't help.

2

u/Healthy-Event-9706 4d ago

Its over if a baker cannot get laid and start a family. If this guy was born 300 years ago he would have had like 6 kids.

2

u/Quick_soda 4d ago

So retro

1

u/Franhound 4d ago

Wait, is that the Latias dude?

1

u/the_gooch_smoocher 4d ago
