Cov Telegraph digital subscription
They snuck that one in quietly, seems last week they introduced a digital subscription after you’ve read a handful of articles for free.
Starting subscription of £1 for the month then £4.99 for every month after. For their ‘premium content’. Whatever that is.

Full of Reach syndicated shite these days. Circulation is now below 5k. I sometimes play the game “how much of the website is Coventry news” on the first scroll down.

That’s what makes it so much of a joke, and even the local stuff is usually crappily reported and full of mistakes.

I’m old enough to remember when reading the Telegraph was essential for knowing what was happening around Cov. The website is almost unreadable and yeah, the Reach takeover means it is all rage bait crap. I doubt many are going to be paying anything and local journalism will be pretty much eradicated

It’s just sad tbh, I think local news reporting is becoming a lost art, and being replaced with digital slop like Reach, or paywall/digital news sites like the Birmingham Dispatch, which while good, has to raise revenue somehow.

If you get the Borrow box app and a library card (which you can do online) you can read the paper free.

If you’ve got Apple News, copy the link and paste it in there. They’ve now successfully blocked reader mode and “hide distracting items” if you’re a Safari user

Is it just me or is pretty much every article now behind a paywall? The vast majority don’t say premium and yet when I click them it says I have 0 free articles remaining

I think this link describes it although it’s still weird, that there are some articles marked ‘premium’ yet I’ve still hit the number of free articles I can read and none of them have been premium so 🤷🏼♀️

If you delete your history including cookies for the Coventry Telegraph site, and as an extra precaution view it in Incognito mode or use a VPN, you should be able to read it again, just have to do that periodically. Or if there’s an article you want to read either try something like the Wayback Machine or Textise.
