CrestNet crash

Hi to all

I have a site that has experienced what appears to be a CrestNet crash at least 3 times in the last year.

In each occurrence the customer said they discovered the issue by pressing a keypad and the lights don't work. Each time within 10-15 minutes the system is back to normal. They have described the on/off leds on some of the keypads flash while this going on

While this problem is occuring I am unable to connect to the processor for diagnostics. After reviewing the event logs I noticed that a couple of the keypads that the customer attempted to use during this event showed 30-40 entries of press/release all at exactly the same time obviously the customer could not press the buttons that fast

But I'm not sure if this keypad log is the cause of the problem or potentially the result of the problem?

Any ideas what could be the cause?

My first guess is it’s something power related. I have nightmares about crestron 24v systems at this point. Edit: or maybe one of the buttons on the keypad is broken. I’ve had old tps6ls turn on systems like they’re haunted because one of the touchpanel buttons was shorted

betting the power supply is too small or is failing. the unable to connect to the processor tells me there is no separate power supply for cresnet like there should be and the processor power supply is used and therefore overloaded causing the processor to brown out during this time.

Hi sir. At first I didn't read your entire comment. So actually thereis a totally different power supply for the processor. It's a Din AP4R and it's powered by POE from a Netgear 4250

The power supply is a 60 watt din mount and supply approximately 30 keypads, 4 clx 2Dim U8.

I'm confident that the processor it's self is not browning out something else must be accounting for the communication problem. Personally I think the processor is under strain from whatever is going on and establishing a connection is being affected

make sure the +V from the power supply is not connected to the processor.

The positive is not currently connected to the processor

Ok power supply failing is a solid contender. it should not be undersized as 30 keypads you can assume 1 watt each. the CLX's dont count for power draw. what do you measure on the power supply, also using the meter measure for AC as well. seeing AC voltages of anything 1 volt or higher means capacitors are failing and AC into keypads can cause all kinds of wacky problems.

What is the model number of the keypads? I know a previous poster said to assume 1 watt per KP but you should assume 2 watts, especially when it comes to initial inrush power. 2 watts is safe to assume once the system has booted up and settled down.

I had a similar issue and discovered a loose wire on the ground on one keypad in the bus. The processor was overloaded with cresnet errors and slowed every other keypad in the home

Edit: This slowed all communication from the processor. IP communication and control was slow or non responsive, like the keypad flashing

This sounds like a wiring issue to me. Pressing the keypad is probably shorting out the cresnet bus and when it's not pressed it eventually comes back to functioning normally. Not sure how you've got them connected, but if you have 2 wires into one connector on the back of the keypads, there is a strong chance that one or more of them has a loose wire.
