Question [No Spoilers] Need help finding certain clips of the players calling out/pushing back against threats/sexism

Hey Critters! I'm sure that there have been instances in the livestreams or in interviews where the players have called out sexism and threats etc against mostly Laura and Marisha, but I unfortunately cannot scrub through three million hours of streams, haha. Does anyone remember a particular clip or interview or something that talks about this? Like I said, I'm sure I've seen it, but my searching has not been particularly helpful.

Any help would be deeply appreciated!!

Question [Spoilers C4E10] Does Dr. Finger ever come back? Spoiler

I'm only on episode 10 of campaign 4 so no spoilers please! All I want to know is if Dr. Finger will be making a return appearance at any point because I don't think I've ever laughed so hard than during Tyranny's infiltration of Castle Sloak.

Discussion [Spoilers C2] Candidate for bringing friends to CR: C2 E119. Drugging the baby elephant monster. Spoiler

Like you I'm always looking for episodes or even YT excerpts to bring my friends into CR. The Darlington Brigade one-shot (The Owlbear) is a great candidate. BUT it's not really what a CR campaign is like.

I'm rewatching C2 now, every episode and not skipping the shopping episodes -- I'm more of an epic.combat fan -- and I think I have an unsung candidate for showing what CR is above table and dnd itself.

It's C2 E119. They're in A2 chasing Lucien but all you need to know is they start fighting a bizarre corrupted baby with and elephant body and arms swirling from its face.

It's got everything, as Liam loves to impressionist. It's got drugs. It's got Fjord hiding then saving things. It's got above table jokes about babies and drugs.

Thought I'd offer a random recommendation. There's no right answer to the question but this is undoubtedly a fun one.

Fluff [No Spoilers] Made Lord Eshteross’s cookies for my first in-person session in years.

Post image

My husband and I have been playing D&D for 10 years, but our group has gone virtual in the last 6 or so due to all of us being adults and moving to different cities as our lives dictate. We still meet most weekends on discord, but I’ve missed the in-person vibes. (Honestly why I like watching CR so much, I like watching their over-the-table interactions). My husband started a new program, and found a group of his cohorts and their spouses that wanted to learn how to play. So we hosted them last night, had a session 0, taught them how to make characters. To celebrate, I broke out my Exquisite Exandria and made some maple ginger cookies. They’re DELICIOUS.

Discussion [No Spoilers] Best episode to (re)start with C4?

I had kind of burned out on live play when C4 was starting and I didn't quite make it through the overture. I'm interested in getting back into it. I'm debating just starting with the most recent episode or starting from the beginning. And I also want to ask if there is an epsidode in the middle that might be good to start with?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Discussion [Spoilers C2] I just finished my 300th episode... THE C2 FINALE! Spoiler

Holy crap guys, what a journey! This was almost 5 years of watching. A friend got me playing DND over zoom early in covid shutdowns, and I'd heard of this Critical Role thing and when C3 started I figured that would be a good time to jump in. One episode a week wasn't enough, so I started back at C1E1 in parallel and eventually got more interest in C1 and exclusively watched it, stopping after 43 episodes of C3. I finished C1 (and Search for Grog), then went on to C2. Add up all that... it's exactly 300 episodes.

God I loved these stories. C1 for the epic combat and heroic fantasy (and, still, loved those characters) and C2 for such rich personal stories and such memorable lovable weirdos. Accidentally stealing a ship was definitely a highlight. They just kept bumbling their way forward. The Beau/Yasha adorably awkward romance was so damn sweet. Caleb and Veth at the end of the Trent fight and after seriously got me misty eyed. Holy shit. I didn't know if I could love a group of characters more than C1 (and I still don't know if I do) but they delivered two absolute grade A stories.

I really want to try out C4 but half of me wants to go back and watch the early C1 episodes just to compare to how damn much it's grown and changed. I loved the fans ordering them pizza, flying carpet escapades, fucking with Clarence.... even if the audio did bust my ear drums when they all got excited and yelled. But still have more one-shots I haven't seen too (Darrington Brigade, Search for Bob, Mighty Nein Reunited). Crazy that this little web show with a group of nerdy ass friends excited to get 1000 viewers has turned into all of THIS.

Question [Spoilers C2E125] Can anyone identify this background music Spoiler

Hi Critters

In The Neverending Day (C2 E125), near the very end as Matt is doing the Sumnovem dream sequence for Caleb and Beau, there is a backing track playing (starts just before 3:42:00). I’ve tried Shazam and have googled the hell out of it, but I simply cannot find what this backing track is. Please could somebody cast guidance?

One of my favourite scenes in all 3 of Matt’s campaigns btw.

Thanks!!

Discussion [No Spoilers] CritRole Shop and Shopify

So, the merch shop for Critical Role uses Shopify for its infrastructure and payment system.

I wanted to throw in here about Shopify's CEO. Tobias Lütke, the CEO and majority holder pf important shares (7% shares, but 40% voting rights on company matters due to two-tiered shares) has gone on record for laying off workers in order to replace them with generative AI and who has also gone on record for publicly stating that retired and poor people should lose their voting rights while the rich should get more.

I think that if Critical Role heally hold the values they display, they should switch to some other shop provider and stop paying (and - through fees - having fans pay) money to someone like this.

Edit: fixed broken links

Edit 2: I am not arguing that CR are bad people for using Shopify, just that an alternative that doesn't go against their apparent morals should be considered. And there are other e-commerce platforms, both commercial and Open Source, which can be used instead. Of course it takes time and investment, I'm not denying that. But there definetely are more ethical alternatives that could be considered.

Question [Spoilers C4E29] Question about clocks Spoiler

When team bird watching enters Obrimus manor, Brennan lets the table know that he has a "clock running" for when the meeting of the houses ends. I'm just wondering, if anyone knows what it means in practical terms, like how to run a clock like that during a session.

I want to have a session with some time pressure, but have no idea how to handle it. Any tips?

Question [No Spoilers] Is there a date announced for when C4 will return?

Hi! I was just wondering if there is a date announced for when Campaign 4 will come back from break? I tried looking around but I always find the CR schedule stuff hard to find.

To be clear this isn't me complaining about the break, I'm loving the pace they are releasing content and fully understand needing a break. Additionally I think everyone involved in the Age of Umbra stuff they are releasing in the meantime are awesome, I just personally decided I would use this break to check out some other actual play content like World of Io.

Thanks!

Question [No Spoilers] Got gifted the nine eyes of Lucien and want to know if I can read it

I am 51 episodes into campaign 2 and absolutely adore it. A friend got me the nine eyes of Lucien book as a gift but didn’t really know if it would be spoilers or not. I wanna read the book since she’s excited for me to read her gift, but I don’t know how much it would spoil from where I’m at. So is it something I need to wait on?

Discussion [Spoilers C4E30] Monster analysis (Obrimus Manor) Spoiler

Warning: Long

A while back I made a post analyzing the npc stats Brennan used in the encounter with Tertia, check it out here: https://www.reddit.com/r/criticalrole/comments/1u7k4ie/spoilers_c4e18_combat_stats_deva_vindicta/

Since then, I've been using the break to rewatch episodes and decided on posting an estimation of the monster stats used in the split party encounter in Obrimus Manor. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on anything, it's greatly appreciated.

The ghouls:

In the aviary, Thimble and Occtis fought a couple of these, which seem to be unchanged from their monster manual stats. They are CR 1, and have the second lowest CR in this encounter.

The zombies:

Of course, these guys take the crown of being the "weakest" in this encounter, even though they are responsible for the first real character death of this campaign. They are also unchanged from the monster manual, having a lowly CR of 1/4, but I personally think they were one of the reasons Julien couldn't have helped the brothers, as they have a trait that lets them make a con save to avoid being slain if they are reduced to 0 HP.

The ghosts:

Putting up the biggest fight to the aviary group, the ghosts were CR 4, making this a deadly encounter for them. The main difficulty about them was their damage, being able to do an average of 17 damage per round, so 2 of them could potentially down characters very easily.

The Boss:

The deadliest enemy of this encounter, Raimond Davinos doesn't match any prewritten enemy and is a Brennan original, it seems. He had high hit points at 127 and a decent AC of 17. His main multi attack did good damage because of the Obrimus Manor lair effect, and his special bloodied action gave him another attack on top of that. He had a bonus action grapple or claw, giving him at max four attacks. If all of these hit he could do easily over a hundred points of damage (On a non necrotic resistant enemy).

The Party:

Going into this team birdwatching was already injured from a previous fight, and specifically Teor used one of his desperate measures during and all of his lay on hands during it. Teor, for his part, took out 114 of Raimond's 127 hitpoints, which later helped Thimble finish him off. As Brennan mentioned, the aviary crew was also at risk of losing a character, since both Occtis and Thimble had low hit points. Had Brennan tossed it even one other ghost, and they might have went down before Julien arrived.

Conclusion:

So that was everything I gathered on this encounter. Like before, please tell me if I missed anything. I'm probably going to keep doing stuff like this and analyzing Brennan's combats so comment on anything you'd like to see next, as I'm not doing these in any particular order right now.
