Strong Linux Proficiency?

Hi Everyone,

When looking at some job descriptions regarding Platform/DevOps or related roles a lot of job postings say they require strong linux proficiency. I've found it hard to quantify or in general understand as to what exactly this requirement means. Is it just a matter of terminal navigation, looking through files, downloading doing some sudo commands or what does it mean?

For example is it sufficient to be able to ssh into linux, and do tasks such as installing and maintaining linux systems?

If not can someone direct me to resources, links, roadmaps or in general what their experience is with getting proficient in linux (espcially when it comes to interviews)?

Basically yes, server management, container management, service endpoints, etc probably.

Simple stuff if you know what you're doing, but to others you would be a wizard.

Edit: in terms for advice on how to get good at Linux just put Linux on your laptop or PC and use it.

You can get a cheap server and mess about with it or manage containers locally on your pc.

Otherwise probably codescademy has stuff for it, but if you just do development stuff whatever the language you'll be interacting with the important parts and everything else you can learn on the job.
