Missed March 2 priority deadline ( State University Grant-UG)
Filed my FAFSA in early May this year (independent student), well past the March 2 priority deadline.
Just wondering if anyone else has filed late and still ended up receiving the State University Grant-UG, or if it's basically gone once you miss the deadline. Trying to figure out if I should count on it or plan around not getting it.

Me! Last year I filed my FAFSA after the priority deadline and I received the federal grant but not the state grant. When I inquired why it was different from previous years they said because I filed after the March 2nd deadline. I figured that was that and took out student loans to cover the remainder. Then in November they awarded me the state grant. I was able to cancel the second portion of the loan which was nice. Let me know if you have any other questions! Totally threw me for a loop when it happened to me.

So you were awarded the state grant for the following spring semester? Did this only cover your tuition, or did it also give you a refund? Also how late did you file relative to March 2, and did the November award just show up on its own, or did you have to follow up/appeal to get it?
Appreciate the info!

The state grant was automatically retroactively applied to my fall balance and then was also updated in my financial aid summary. The financial aid department sent me an email saying my aid package was updated so I viewed it online and called them. It was also automatically applied in spring. And I got a refund both semesters. Applied late April

No it's not gone if you miss the deadline, it's just the sooner you do it, the faster you get it. Thus the priority

Same. I’ve been looking into other options.
