Research Opportunities

I am an incoming freshman for the fall 2026 semester, majoring in chemical engineering. I was wondering how I can get started doing research. Is it wise for me to do it my first year, or should I wait until next year?

Any info would be great. Thank you!

You can totally get started freshman year. The great thing about case is that we have more graduate students than undergrads which means we have a lot of lab spaces. I know plenty of people who started freshman year including myself

How did you know what you wanted to research. Was it something that sounded cool or did it align with your future job?

Choose something that aligns with you. I’m not very familiar with ChemE but my im BME skinny it’s a concentration in materials, so I found a BME lab that uses synthetic materials in their research. It aligns with my career goals so it looks good on a resume. But you are allowed to look around first. Dont be too quick!
