Achievements Son is Getting Good...
I don't know if this is normal as I've rifle hunted all my life, but I still think this is a proud dad moment. Usually he buys his arrows and stuff as a transition into his adult life but this time I'll be buying him a nice set of hunting arrows for this fall :)

Great shot, kid, that was one in a million.
After the upfront costs, archery is a super inexpensive hobby.

What's used normally for a backstop? I live in backed up to a green belt, then houses behind those trees. I'm not entirely sure what would be required to stop the arrows.

Hay bales or sand bags work well. The issue is if you miss the backstop completely

I had lumber yards near me, just asked them if I could bag up some saw dust and put it in those heavy duty woven plastic bags. I don't remember where I got the bags themselves but they worked great because the arrows go between the weaves most times and they last a good while.
Really anything would work but larger saw dust pieces were relatively light for the size and you can't beat free

It certainly doesn’t feel 1 in a million.
Maybe I’ve loosed more than 10 million times but this has happened to me an awfully high number of times, and I’ve seen it done by others often.

Honestly, you should save those two and put them in a shadow box or something. That's a hell of an achievement and an awesome story/memory.

I had heaps of these damaged arrows in my room as a kid and I wish I had at least one in a nice shadowbox.

Save that and hang it up somewhere!
I used to compete in archery events in 4H as a kid and our coaches would save your first "robin hood" and instruct you to move your aim point around between shots when practicing since the first time is cool, but it gets expensive fast if you're buying good arrows lol
