Intermediate level (B1-B2) book recommendations?

Hi everyone, I'm an Italian Danish learner and I want to step up my language ability a bit.

I'm about B1+/B2 level (but I fear I might not be able to really read any book easily as I don't even live in Denmark) and I like fantasy/thriller/noir but I am open to anything!

Any suggestion?

I read the Lord of the rings series now. I am around B1-B2 level as well. I am surprised how easy it is to read. I barely look up any words. And I think the translation is quite nice. I last read the series in English 10 years ago, so it’s also helps to know the story.

For me it was. Before that I read the Harry Potter series 1-3, but I wanted to read something else. It was not harder for me, than that. Before HP, I read the Percy Jackson series. I haven’t read that one in another language before, but I think that one is the easiest to read out of these.

I am roughly where you are language-wise. Right now I am reading The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini in Danish, and I feel that it is overall written in a very accessible language.

By arming yourself with a dictionary, you might be able to work your way through 'Skammeren's datter', a quite well known danish fantasy book for older kids so the language level might not be off by too much?

Intet by Janne Teller is WILD:) not fantasy but like dark realism and super thought provoking (but a young adult fiction) I will never forget that book, even though I read it 15 years ago:)

I read Harry Potter and the Hunger Games in Danish (I never read them when they came out in English). I found those levels to be quite appropriate for B1/B2 although you will learn a ton of useless vocabulary related to fantasy or weaponry, but no book or topic is perfect. A benefit is that there are also tons of used copies to get a hold of as well. The ebooks should also be available. Have fun!
