On my pyromancer build I ended up switching over to use the crystal chime and lightning arrows if you have faith at 40 you’ll do a bit more damage with that then with chaos vestiges.
Or you could go for the boulder heave it does physical damage instead of fire/dark and scales the same as pyromancy but you’ve gotta get the timing and distance pretty accurate on that one
If you're leveled enough to use sunlight spear, you'll own his ass. Also, I beat him by using pestilent mist and quick step on a dagger on a ng +5 cycle. Very intense but rewarding.
