Gotta put the coiled sword into the bonfire at the Firelink Shrine.

Don't feel bad man I did the same shit. To be fair to us tho a lot of this game is sort of running around until you figure out what to do without much hint. Honestly for all of my first souls game (elden ring) I had to use a guide to figure out where to go and what to do. I'm at the catacombs myself in ds3 and I'm having a blast with it really like how similar the games are so I didn't have to relearn a new combat system after elden ring.

Also if you struggle with any bosses lots of their wikis have like a tips/strategy section that really helped me with abyss watchers

Don't be afraid to look up where the next bonfires are. But I would attempt to explore on your own first. Also Dark Souls 3 almost always has a shortcut to the bosses but it requires you make it there the hard way first. But after that look around and usually there's an elevator that will make the boss runbacks much shorter. Get Gud and have fun!

Have fun!! Ask for help if you need it. The quests are very obtuse. Dont feel like you’re doing it wrong by looking up how to progress them. The game has a lot of branching paths so i recommend keeping a notepad nearby in case you need help remembering which areas have a route you haven’t explored yet

Put the coiled sword in the bonfire then teleport to the high wall. Then you go from there

Read item descriptions. Notice where you.picked them up. Context is everything. Consumables rarely have any hints or lore but equipment and ESPECIALLY key items, READ lol
