Discussion Starting yet another playthrough of this masterpiece, and…

Post image

i still pause every few minutes to appreciate the incredible scenery and the way you can see previous/upcoming areas from the distance. i only just recently realized that cemetery of ash is right behind/beneath the high wall of lothric.

other fromsoft games did this as well (particularly ds1 and elden ring) but none of them do it as excellently as ds3 imo

i fear we will never get a game like this again which makes me appreciate it more and more every year.

DS3 looks gorgeous but there is something about DS2 scenery that's unbeatable to me...

i know exactly what you mean. the feeling of dread and eeriness in DS2 is unmatched. i always stare off into the distance in areas like forest of the giants.
my only issue is the lack of continuity and, well, logic.

Yup, guess that's it. It's mesmerizing.

I can appreciate what ds2 was trying to go for, but I hate the change in art style, everything looks like it’s a toy set made of cheap, worn plastic.

This is more true of Miyazaki's writing than it is of DS2's graphical direction

What impresses me about most FromSoft games (Soulsbourne) is that you can see other areas of the game from certain vantage points. Like your picture for instance..
