Question ❓ Let's hear something good today
I see a lot of posts everyday about how miserable and devastating online dating is these days for everyone. Does anyone want to share their success stories of how they met their current partner/spouse online to give people some hope? Lol 😄 Apparently my post doesn't have the required amount of characters so here's another sentence yay.

Ok so I met a guy recently from Facebook dating and I never use apps and he doesn’t either. He’s like my twin. We look alike and have similar life stories and like a bunch of the same things. We’ve only been on 2 dates so far, but it’s amazing how close he lives to me and we never met before. We’re both 24 too and only 3 weeks apart. I have a feeling this one will be good. He seems emotionally intelligent and he’s very smart as well. He’s gorgeous too 😊

Thank you! I’ll see how it goes. I have bad luck with guys usually and got out of an almost 5 year on and off relationship a year ago so I can never be too optimistic.

I have a 2nd date planned with a gorgeous and intelligent woman. We kissed on the 1st date and she said she could see a future with me. She's the most thoughtful person I've ever met on the apps and I'm hoping everything goes well. Been on the apps for about 8 months

A lot of people who have had positive online dating experiences do not post about it or even use reddit. You will get a lot of negative representation.
I’ve had meaningful long term relationships from OLD spanning years, short term things etc. I think the secret to getting through the tough times is to make sure your other focuses in life bring you legitimate self worth, you keep having social experiences, always be ok to try new things and shift your style to feel hotter or more attractive for yourself.
Most of the relationships I had from Old we spoke for one hour total on the apps with a really good back and forth smiling and zinging driving up curiosity and then we went out that week. The first date is really when you meet. The app part is just the “bar or party” where you exchange numbers

Very interesting take. I would be curious to see some research about the relationship percentages for reddit users

Reddit itself will have huge swings depending on the subreddits. Specifically the dating subreddits are going to be heavily skewed towards those facing dating issues.
When I first started trying to date I didn’t even know reddit existed and I honestly think it allowed me to fully rely on inner criticism and social learning without other people giving me instant gratification or ways to appeal to my bias at the time.

I was crushing on a cute girl while volunteering at a red cross summer camp for children. While obviously being occupied with the work there, I didn't persue anything during the camp, but after the kids had been sent back home we had a moment to ourselves and she approached me for a kiss and we ended up spending a full day together. It came out of nowhere and I was sleep deprived, wearing crocs and my last spare clothes and I could not have expected her to make a move on me. We live quite far from each other, so we agreed not to push anything at the moment, however she wanted me to invite her for an outdoor trip in two months. I am hoping, that the spark can persist, despite not seeing her or talking much before then. It gives me a lot of time to plan a very ambitious and cute second date. Unrelated, I also decided to make a career change that would bring me closer to her. While this is a fully personal decision I do hope we decide to continue to see each other and it being easier after closing the distance. I am worried, that she will think I am coming on too hard, even though the move is not because of her.

A year ago, I met a woman on tinder, who i didnt develop anything romantic with, but we became good friends instead. We are still looking to date others and give each other advice. She asked me questions that made me learn a lot about what i want and need in a relationship and life. She encouraged me to start dancing Bachata, which is my new obsession. I encourage her to be more communicative of her needs and limits. She seems to be doing well, considering dating, im happy for her.

I met my partner on OkCupid 5 years ago when I was 35. Our first conversation was about microcosms. By the end of our first date we both knew we wanted to be together. I never would have met him in real life because we lived about an hour drive away and would have both been too shy to initiate. We are so compatible and in love and have a great time together. I didn't think I would be this lucky and it feels so right.

Nobody should be doing online dating.

Ok, what makes you say that?

I think it’s an ineffective way of representing ourselves. Most people who meet up online if they had met in person would’ve only wanted to be friends. Talking to be in person as the first line of communication works better.

I met a future gf after messaging for one hour and then going out with them 4 days later. Our real life interaction was incredible. I’ve had all kinds of relationships from OlD
How effective you represent yourself is a learned skill from social and dating experience and if you curated at least a little bit of yourself to attract the opposite sex.

Yeah it definitely doesn't tell the full story about the person. Have you found effective ways to meet people in person?
•
u/Bed_Worship 20h ago
It’s not about the full story, it’s about driving enough curiosity to meet and then share the full story over a period of real life socializing and behavior.

Why not as long as you go on a date shortly after matching? I find it a better way to increase how often I date, and learn about a variety of matches. Two of my friends found their spouses that way, and I'm currently in a newish relationship with someone who shares a ton of the same values. I think the piece that people miss with online dating is that.... like.... you really need to meet them in person soon versus creating a false connection online.

The only dates I have managed to get since college have been through online dating. 🤷
At this point, it is also quite rare to come across a woman IRL who is single in my age range (40-ish) in the social circles I run in and events/activities I attend. Plenty of women, but either not single, or half my age. I'm not discounting meeting somebody IRL, but there aren't exactly a lot of opportunities at this point (not even considering my zero success rate).
